Alon Goldstein (born 1970) is an Israeli classical pianist.^[1]

Biography[link]

Alon Goldstein graduated from the Peabody Conservatory where he studied with Leon Fleisher. He made his orchestral debut at the age of 18 with the Israel Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta.

Awards[link]

He is the winner of the Arianne Katcz Piano Competition in Tel Aviv, Nena Wideman Competition in the US and the Francois Shapira competition in Israel. He is also the recipient of the 2004 Salon di Virtuosi Career Grant and the America Israel Cultural Foundation Scholarships.

Joseph Goldstein (born 1944) is one of the first American vipassana teachers (Fronsdal, 1998), co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) with Jack Kornfield and Sharon Salzberg, contemporary author of numerous popular books on Buddhism (see publications below), resident guiding teacher at IMS, and leader of retreats worldwide on insight (vipassana) and lovingkindness (metta) meditation.

While the majority of Goldstein's publications introduce Westerners to primarily Theravada concepts, practices and values, his 2002 work, "One Dharma", explored the creation of an integrated framework for the Theravada, Tibetan and Zen traditions.

• 1944: Born; grew up in the Catskill mountains of New York
• 1965: Graduated from Columbia University as a philosophy major
• 1965: Entered the Peace Corps in Thailand, where he first became interested in Buddhism. After the Peace Corps, he spent most of the next seven years in India studying and practicing Buddhist meditation

Daniel Goldstein (born April 21, 1969) is an American psychologist known for the specification and testing of heuristics and models of bounded rationality in the field of judgment and decision making.

Academic career[link]

Goldstein's thesis at the University of Chicago used computer simulation to study the accuracy and frugality of satisficing heuristics for making inferences. Investigations of the take-the-best heuristic^[1] and the recognition heuristic^[2] were later published as journal articles in Psychological Review and in the book Simple Heuristics That Make Us Smart.^[3] These fast and frugal heuristics have since had an impact in medicine, law and politics, and other areas outside psychology^{[4][5] [6]} .^[7]

In 1995, advisor Gerd Gigerenzer and Goldstein left Chicago to start the Center for Adaptive Behavior and Cognition at the Max Planck Institute in Germany. From 2002, Goldstein served 3 years as Associate Director of the Center for the Decision Sciences at Columbia University, where he co-authored with Eric J. Johnson an influential article on organ donation in the journal Science^{[8] [9] [10]} .^[11]

Formerly a Principal Research Scientist at Yahoo! Research,^[12] Goldstein is now at Microsoft Research.^[13] His recent research investigated perceptions of risk and uncertainty, particularly in financial markets. He and Nassim Taleb are testing people's statistical intuitions when facing ecological, 'non-textbook' uncertainty, and what they call the ludic fallacy.^[14][15] Along with Nobel Laureate William F. Sharpe, he has invented a method to measure preferences and beliefs about probabilities called the Distribution Builder.^[16][17][18] In 2008, Goldstein was elected to the Executive Board of the Society for Judgment and Decision Making.^[19]

Alvin "Al" Goldstein (b. January 10, 1936, New York City) is a former American publisher and pornographer. His company Milky Way Productions, owner of Screw, and the long-running cable TV show, Midnight Blue was started in 1968 and went into bankruptcy in 2004. His mansion in Pompano Beach, Florida, complete with backyard 11-foot middle finger statue, was sold in June 2004 to pay debts.

In 2002 he was found guilty of harassing a former employee, doing such things as publishing her number in Screw and encouraging readers to call her, and sentenced to 60 days in prison. The charges were appealed and eventually overturned,^[1] but not before serving six days behind bars.^[2] As part of the plea bargain, Goldstein apologized for his action.

He received three years’ probation for harassment of his third wife. Goldstein was arrested for shoplifting. In 2004 he worked at the Second Avenue Deli, owned by a friend, as a greeter. In 2005, he was homeless until the magician Penn Jillette paid for an apartment for him. In 2006, his marriage was annulled.
