Franchise Animated is an animated typeface by 1 type designer and 110 animators. For this specific animated typeface we have round up 110 talented animators from all over the world. We asked every animator to pick a glyph and animate it using no more than 4 colors, 25 frames and a 500 x 600 px canvas in Adobe After Effects. The animators had complete freedom to work their magic within those 25 frames. The result is a wide variety of styles and techniques. The color palette and letterforms tie it all together.
The file contains all the keyframes, expressions and artwork from the artists. This makes it a great learning source for motion students and professionals.

"Consumed" is another self-initiated personal project that I've written, designed and animated.
It's a 3D short film about a not so distant future, where extreme overpopulation has become a global crises. The population growth has reached a critical tipping point and there's food and water shortages all around the world. The story revolves around a "Food Replicator", or a so called molecular assembler, a device that can rearrange subatomic particles and guide chemical reactions with atomic precision. In an attempt to prevent mass starvation, this device is used to synthesize nutritions with the ability to self-replicate. But during the initial tests something goes wrong and out-of-control self-replicating compounds starts to spread, consuming all matter while building more copies of them selves.
This is very similar to a hypothetical end-of-the-world scenario called "Grey goo", a term coined by molecular nanotechnology pioneer Eric Drexler back in 1986. He illustrates exponential growth and the dangers of self-replication is his book "Engines of Creation":
"Imagine a replicator floating in a bottle of chemicals, making copies of itself…the first replicator assembles a copy in one thousand seconds, the two replicators then build two more in the next thousand seconds, the four build another four, and the eight build another eight. At the end of ten hours, there are not thirty-six new replicators, but over 68 billion. In less than a day, they would weigh a ton; in less than two days, they would outweigh the Earth; in another four hours, they would exceed the mass of the Sun and all the planets combined — if the bottle of chemicals hadn't run dry long before."
Well, obviously my scenario is all science fiction, since the required technologies to create this kind of self-replicating matter won't be invented until.. hmm.. no sooner than 2014?

This movie represents hours and hours of research, desperation, excitement, happiness, pride, sadness and extreme dedication. Hope you like it.
IMPORTANT: designed to be viewed in HD at fullscreen with scaling off on a 1080p device. Be patient and wait for the movie to load before playing, it's a 1080p movie. Some subtleties are lost in the online version, so I encourage to download the original blu-ray quality version (or the original demo) below, to better appreciate the skin and fine scale render details (but be aware that you will need a powerful computer to play it).
It shows our latest and final advances on real-time skin rendering (Separable Subsurface Scattering), which enables to quickly render skin in just two post-processing passes. Everything is written from scratch using DirectX 10 and rendered in real-time, from the skin to the film grain; if you have a powerful GPU you can download the original demo here:

Furthermore, it also shows how important is the full rendering pipeline if you aim for 1080p close-up shots. Efforts towards rendering ultra realistic skin are futile if they are not coupled with HDR, high quality bloom, depth of field, film grain, tone mapping, ultra high quality models, parametrization maps, high quality shadow maps and a high quality antialiasing solution. If you fail on any of them, the illusion of looking at a real human will be broken.
