Gordon West (born 24 April 1943 in Darfield, South Yorkshire) is an English former professional football goalkeeper.
He made his debut for Blackpool at the age of 17. After 33 League games for the Tangerines, he signed for Everton in March 1962 for £27,000, then a British record for a goalkeeper, replacing Albert Dunlop.
West was a regular in the Everton teams that won championship in 1962-63 and in 1969-70 and the FA Cup in 1966. He made 399 appearances for Everton and retired in 1973.
He came out of retirement after three years to play briefly for cross-Mersey rivals Tranmere Rovers. He played for Tranmere Rovers 17 times in the League.
West won three caps for England, though turned down a place in the 1970 FIFA World Cup squad because he wanted to stay at home with his family.
After giving up football, West worked in security at RAF Woodvale and is now an after dinner speaker. Former Everton and Wales goalkeeper Neville Southall is campaigning for West to be rewarded with a testimonial game by Everton for his eleven years of service.[citation needed]
Bob Heil (October 5, 1940) is an American sound and radio engineer most well known for creating the template for modern rock sound systems. He founded the company Heil Sound in 1966, which went on to create unique touring sound systems for bands such as The Grateful Dead and The Who. He invented the Heil Talk Box in 1973, which was frequently used by musicians such as Peter Frampton, Joe Walsh and Richie Sambora, and is still in use today.
Heil has been an innovator in the field of amateur radio, manufacturing microphones and satellite dishes for broadcasters and live sound engineers. In the late 1980s Heil Sound became one of the first American companies to create and install Home Theaters, and Heil has lectured at major electronic conventions and taught classes at various institutions.
He has won multiple awards and honors, and in 2007 he became the first manufacturer to be invited to exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Bob Heil was born in the 1940s in Illinois. He became a proficient theater organ musician at a young age, beginning to perform at various local restaurants at the age of 14. At the age of 15, he became house player for the Wurlitzer theater organ in the Fox Theater in St. Louis. During that time he learned how to tune and voice the thousands of pipes in that great Wurlitzer. It was the platform that taught Heil how to listen - mentally dissect discrete tones which became so important throughout his several careers .
William Ralph Dean (22 January 1907 – 1 March 1980), better known as Dixie Dean, was an English football player. Dean originally started his career with Birkenhead based Tranmere Rovers before moving on to Everton, the club he had supported as a child, where he became the most prolific goal-scorer in English football history. Dean played the majority of his career at Everton before injuries caught up with him and he moved on to new challenges at Notts County and Ireland's Sligo Rovers. He is best known for his exploits in 1927–28 season which saw Dean score 60 league goals.
A statue of Dean was unveiled outside Goodison Park in May 2001. A year later Dean became one of 22 players inducted into the inaugural English football hall of fame. He was the first Everton player to wear the "number 9" shirt. Dean is regarded as one of the greatest pre-war sports heroes in British culture.[citation needed]
Dean was born at 325 Laird Street in Birkenhead, Cheshire a major town on the Wirral Peninsula, on the opposite side of the River Mersey to Liverpool. Dean's family on both his mother and father's side hailed from Chester. He was the grandson of Ralph Brett, a train driver who drove the royal train during the reign of George V. Dean grew up as a supporter of Everton thanks to the efforts of his father, William Sr who once took him during the 1914–1915 title winning season.
