Tarzan of the Apes is a novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the first in a series of books about the title character Tarzan. It was first published in the pulp magazine All-Story Magazine in October, 1912; the first book edition was published in 1914. So popular was the character that Burroughs continued the series into the 1940s with two dozen sequels. Burroughs' novel has been the basis of several movies. The first two were the silent films Tarzan of the Apes (1918) and The Romance of Tarzan (1918), both starring Elmo Lincoln as Tarzan, based on the first and second parts of the novel, respectively. The next and most famous adaptation was Tarzan the Ape Man (1932), starring Johnny Weissmuller, who went on to star in eleven other Tarzan films. It was remade twice, as Tarzan, the Ape Man (1959), featuring Denny Miller, and Tarzan, the Ape Man (1981), with Miles O'Keeffe as Tarzan and Bo Derek as Jane. Three more movie adaptations have been made to date; Greystoke - The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984), a film starring Christopher Lambert that is more faithful to the book, Tarzan of the Apes (1999), a direct to video animated film, and Tarzan (1999), an animated film with Tony Goldwyn as the voice of Tarzan. A number of Burroughs' other Tarzan novels have also been adapted for the screen, and numerous additional Tarzan films have been made with no connection to his writings other than the character.

This is the first film version of Tarzan. It is said that Edgar Rice Burroughs was on the set but that his advice was never taken. Regardless, the first half of the film was quite impressive for 1918. The later half leaves something to be desired. I post these as I finish them, The next part will be along in a day or two I'm sure.

Tarzan is a 1999 American animated feature film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures on June 18, 1999. The thirty-seventh film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics, it is based on the story Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and is the only major motion picture version of the story Tarzan property to be animated. It was also the last "bona fide" hit before the Disney slump of the early 2000s making $171091819 in domestic gross and $448191819 worldwide, outgrossing its predecessors Mulan and Hercules. To date, it is the last film based on the fictional character Tarzan to have had a theatrical release, and also currently holds the record for being the most expensive Disney animated film, with a budget of $150 million. It was also the first Disney animated feature to open at #1 since Pocahontas. This was the last movie that came out during the Disney Renaissance.

I Just Thought What Would It Be Like to Use a Tarzan Film with the Trailer of Another Tarzan Film. About Tarzan & Greystoke: Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes was Released in 1984 by Hugh Hudson (Who Also Worked on Chariots of Fire), It also Features the First Film Role of Christopher Lambert (Who Plays Tarzan). Disney's Tarzan was Released in 1999 by Disney's Renaissance (Which Also Included Such Classics as The Little Mermaid and The Lion King), With Music by Oscar Winning Singer Phil Collins, and the Use of Deep Canvas, The Film Features Actor Tony Goldwyn (Who is also in 1990's Ghost) as the Voice of Tarzan. This is the seventh release from MMP. The song, "Proud of your Boy" originally was a scrapped song that was planned for the Disney movie, ALADDIN. Disney Studios revived it however for the special features on the 2 Disc DVD set of ALADDIN, with Clay Aiken singing the song. Once I heard it, an idea rose in my head to do a son/mother tribute to Tarzan & his ape mother, Kala, from Disney's TARZAN. I loved doing this piece and worked on it nonstop until it was completed, which only took me within an hour. Whitlock (September 15, 1915 -- October 26, 1999) was an British-born motion picture matte artist best known for his work with Disney and Universal Studios. His film career began as a page at Gaumont Studios in London in 1929, before going on to build sets and work as a grip. Trained as a sign painter, he began a life-long association with Alfred Hitchcock, completing all of the signs for The 39 Steps and then assisting in the miniature effects for The Man Who Knew Too Much. Whitlock began working as a matte artist during World War II. Recruited by Walt Disney, who was an admirer of his work, he would relocate to the US in the early 1950s. At Disney, where the head of the Matte Department was fellow-Londoner and near-exact contemporary Peter Ellenshaw, he successfully mastered the impressionistic approach to matte painting that he would become known for. He remained with the studio for seven years, helping with the design of Disneyland as well as film work, before moving to Universal in 1961. There he served as the head of their matte department, continuing his long collaboration with Alfred Hitchcock and many other directors, until retiring from the company in 1985. His crowning achievement was the creation of over 70 individual matte paintings for the 1974 disaster film, Earthquake, which earned him an Academy Award.
