The Girl Most Likely

The Girl Most Likely (1958) is a musical comedy film about a young woman who ends up engaged to three men at the same time. The film, a remake of Tom, Dick and Harry (1941), was directed by Mitchell Leisen, and stars Jane Powell, Cliff Robertson, and Keith Andes. The choreography is by Gower Champion.

This was the last film produced by RKO Radio Pictures and was distributed by Universal-International. It was also the final film directed by Leisen.

Plot

Dodie lives with her parents and dreams of marrying a millionaire. At home in California, near the ocean, her boyfriend Buzz is a real-estate agent of modest means. He proposes marriage and she accepts, but tells her pal Marge that she has doubts.

A yacht arrives, owned by wealthy Neil Patterson, which gets Dodie's fantasies going. She even leaps into the water and swims out to meet him. Asked on a date, Dodie is thrilled until she learns that the man isn't Neal at all but his poor mechanic, Pete.

It isn't long before Pete is smitten and proposes. He also infuriates Buzz by pretending to buy a house and bringing Dodie along as his fiancee.

The Girl Most Likely (song)

"The Girl Most Likely" is a single by American country music artist Jeannie C. Riley. Released in November 1968, it was the first single from her album Yearbooks and Yesterdays. The song peaked at number 6 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. It also reached number 1 on the RPM Country Tracks chart in Canada.

The song was written by the songwriting team of Margaret Lewis and Mira Smith, who also wrote the hits "The Rib", "Country Girl", and "Oh Singer" for Riley.

The Girl Most Likely to... is a black comedy with slight psychological thriller elements written by Joan Rivers and Agnes Gallin and starring Stockard Channing and Edward Asner. The film was released on November 6, 1973 as a made-for-television movie broadcast on the ABC Movie of the Week.

Plot

Miriam Knight is an intelligent but unattractive young woman who is disrespected by those around her. She has changed colleges five times in three years. In that time, she has taken a lot of different classes, but is still unable to find a boyfriend. At her new college, things go from bad to worse. She is either ignored or humiliated by almost everyone. Miriam finally lands the lead in a play, but her jealous roommate, knowing Miriam is allergic to roses, places some in a box during Miriam's performance which causes her to sneeze herself into humiliation. She tearfully speeds away from the college campus, but is involved in an automobile accident. She requires reconstructive surgery on her face. Once the bandages are removed, they reveal a brunette bombshell. From the moment she steps outside the room in the hospital, she makes it her mission to exact vengeance on all those who did her wrong by killing them, one by one. Miriam uses skills she acquired in many of her classes to commit the crimes. A police detective, Ralph Varone (Edward Asner), who had a brief encounter with the "old" Miriam, solves the crimes committed by the "new" Miriam and discovers her motive. Varone falls in love with Miriam, becoming the only man to love her for her mind. They marry with Miriam in custody preparing to serve a lengthy jail sentence.
