John Gallagher is a cartoonist.

Career

He received the National Cartoonist Society Gag Cartoon Award for 1957 and 1971 for his work.

He has also done artwork for Magic: The Gathering.

John Gallagher (geologist)

John Edward Patrick Gallagher, OC (July 16, 1916 – December 16, 1998) was a Canadian geologist and businessman. Born in Winnipeg, Gallagher attended the University of Manitoba. He became a petroleum geologist working for a number of multinationals in California, Egypt, Latin America and Canada searching for oil.

In 1950, he branched out on his own and founded Dome Petroleum. The company found important new oil fields in Alberta, but Gallagher's main focus was on Canada's Arctic. The company spent billions exploring and found large deposits under the Beaufort Sea, but did not have the money to develop them. Deeply in debt, Gallagher resigned as CEO in 1983. Dome was sold to Amoco in 1988 for $5.5 billion. Gallagher founded a new company that would become Prime Energy in 1984.

Gallagher was an Officer of the Order of Canada and a member of the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame. In 1978, he was awarded the "Mining Man of the Year" by The Northern Miner.

John Gallagher QC is an Australian barrister. He was a Director of the Board of the public broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation from 1999 to 2008.

At the time of his appointment to the ABC board, he had been a member of the Queensland Bar for 35 years, and a Queen's Counsel for 17 years. Prior to his appointment to the ABC Board, he was:

As a Queen's Counsel, Gallagher's experience spanned environmental, town planning, heritage, licensing, broadcasting tribunal, valuation and general commercial cases. He delivered papers at International Bar Association conferences in America, Europe and Asia.

He was first appointed to the ABC board for a five-year term on 9 December 1999, and then reappointed for a three-year term from 24 February 2005 when he was appointed deputy chairman until his term expired on 23 February 2008. In 2006 he was part of that board when they controversially decided not to publish the book Jonestown: The Power and the Myth of Alan Jones, a biography of Sydney radio broadcaster Alan Jones written by ABC journalist Chris Masters.
