Fatimids Glory of Shi'a Arab
The Fatimid Caliphate or al-Fātimiyyūn (Arabic الفاطميون) was an Arab Shi'a dynasty that ruled over varying areas of the Maghreb, Egypt, Sicily and the Levant from 5 January 909 to 1171. It was the fourth and final Arab caliphate. The caliphate was ruled by the Fatimids, who established the Egyptian city of Cairo as their capital. The term Fatimite is sometimes used to refer to the citizens of this caliphate. The ruling elite of the state belonged to the Ismaili branch of Shi'ism. The leaders of the dynasty were also Shia Ismaili Imams, hence, they had a religious significance to Ismaili Muslims. They are also part of the chain of holders of the office of Caliph, as recognized by most Muslims, the only period in which the Shia Imamate and the Caliphate were united to any degree, excepting the Caliphate of Ali himself.
With exceptions, the Fatimids were reputed to exercise a degree of religious tolerance towards non-Shi'a sects of Islam as well as towards Jews, Maltese Christians and Coptic Christians.

Stainless Steel 6.3: The Kingdom of Jerusalem vs Fatimids (Tough Battle)
Here on Stainless Steel, i decided to make a tough battle between the best units from the Kingdom of Jerusalem vs the best units from the Fatimids. All units from both sides are max skilled in Experience & Fighting but since i wanted it to resemble a battle of the Crusades, i didn't want my knights in plate armor, so i made all my KoJ units on level 1 in Armor & level 2 Armor for the Fatimids. The Muslims outnumbered mine by some 600 men & were slightly more armored but i had the Holy Cross Standard & the Canons of the Holy Sepulcher in which both helped to balance the fight. My Hospitallers on the left wing of my frontline were being battered down & my whole left flank was weakening untill i sent 2 units to support them, but to the contrary, my right wing & center hacked their way through & although my Cavalry Knights took many casualties they still managed to slaughter their heavy cavalry & got them to their infantry attack from behind.
This is the reason why i like to battle with both armies max skilled or nearly max skilled, cos the majority of the men from both sides will stay & fight till they win or die rather than retreat, in fact only a very few retreated when most of their army was wiped out.

11 The Fatimid Dynasty in Egypt & the return of Europe
http://www.youtube.com/AfricansArise
Historian Basil Davidson looks at the splendour of Old Cairo under the Shia Fatimid dynasty. He details how the return of Europe to prominance following its long period of backwardness and slumber (aka the Dark Ages) was founded upon the economic stability of Afria - as seen in the fact that European gold coins were mindted in African gold. We also see how Euroepan Renaissance art depicted Africans as dignified equals, much as the ancient Greeks had.

M2TW/Bellum Crucis 6.3: Romans of Byzantium vs Arabs/Egyptians of the Fatimid Caliphate
IF YOU WISH TO SKIP THE SHOWING OF UNITS & GO STRAIGHT TO THE BATTLE JUST SKIP TO 6:00
This custom battle is the second one i played to check the units right after i edited the number of men per unit of almost all units in all factions, i only left as small units those like Greek firethrowers, naffatun, hashishin etc. I increased all medium & light infantry units to 152 per unit & the heavy infantry units to 122 per unit, because some had less & others had lesser. The cavalry units, i made them all evenly 82 per unit, cos some were less & some had more. I gave the Roman officers red boots with yellow double headed eagle & changed the cloak from plain brown to that red with many small yellow double headed eagles, took it from the varangian captain textures in the same mod. So this is just a custom battle to check this but its turned out to be a fast fought but intresting battle in which the fatimids, although fought well were destroyed. The Holy Roman Empire vs the Abbasid Caliphate custom battle is next.

Stainless Steel6.3: 1st Crusade, The Battle of Ascalon 1099 1/2
The Last Battle of the 1st Crusade.
The Battle of Ascalon 1099 was fought between 10,200 Crusaders of the newly founded Kingdom of Jerusalem & the Muslim Fatimids that gathered an army of some 30-50,000 Saracens to retake Jerusalem back. The Actual Commanders of the battle of Ascalon were Godfrey of Bouillon, Raymond IV of Toulouse & Robert II of Flanders, but there were also other famous Crusader Knights of the 1st Crusade, commanding smaller sections, like Tancred de Hauteville, Robert of Normandy ( son of William the Conqueror ), Gaston IV of Béarn ( the 1st man into Jerusalem ) & Eustace III of Boulogne ( younger brother of Godfrey & Baldwin ). The Fatimids were commanded by Al-afdal Shahanshah & his army consisted of Arabs, Seljuk Turks, Egyptians, Ethiopians, Persians, Armenians & Kurds. The 'Gesta Francorum' states that the Saracen invading force numbered around 200,000men which is believed to be an exageration, but modern estimates concluded 30-50,000 Saracens. The Crusaders, according to Raymond of Aguilers, who held the Holy Lance in this battle, had 1,200 Knights & 9,000 Infantry, but nevertheless, they marched out of Jerusalem to meet the Saracens in open battle. A skirmish near Ramla where Tancred captured captives, allerted both sides that they are close to eachother.
On the morning of the 12th August, crusader scouts reported the location of the Fatimid camp and the army marched towards it. During the march the crusaders had been organized into nine divisions: Godfrey led the left wing, Raymond the right, and Tancred, Eustace, Robert of Normandy and Gaston IV of Béarn made up the centre while Robert of Flanders took the rear guard; they were further divided into two smaller divisions, and a division of foot-soldiers marched ahead of each. Albert of Aix states that the battle went on for some time with a fairly well prepared Egyptian army. The two main lines of battle fought each other with arrows until they were close enough to fight hand-to-hand with spears and other hand weapons. The Ethiopians attacked the centre of the crusader line, and the Fatimid vanguard was able to outflank the crusaders and surround their rearguard, until Godfrey arrived to rescue them. Despite his numerical superiority, al-Afdal's army was hardly as strong or dangerous as the Seljuk armies that the crusaders had encountered previously. Al-Afdal and his panicked troops fled back to the safety of the fortified city of Ascalon. Raymond chased some of them into the sea, others climbed trees and were killed with arrows, while others were crushed in the retreat back into the gates of Ascalon. Al-Afdal left behind his camp and its treasures, which were captured by Robert and Tancred. Crusader losses are unknown, but the Egyptians lost about 10--12,000 men.
I played this battle on campaign for the purpose of gathering the named Crusader leaders in it. I modified it & created those that were missing like Robert of Normandy, the Fatimid leader Al-Afdal Shahanshah & edited their portrait icons with the faces of them from my crusader pics, so it wasn't just a normal battle like the others cos i wanted to make it as realistic as i can. I deployed the only existent Knights Hospitallers at the time, the Knights Hospitallers of st.John & Knights of st.Lazarus, i deployed the Canons of the Holy Sepulcher, Crusader Knights & Sergeants, the Great Cross Standard & the missile units. For the fatimids, since it said they had turks, arabs & persians, i gave them some arab infantry, turkish ghulam cavalry, persian Kwarizmian cavalry besides the fatimid Khassaki, mamluk horsearchers, Heavy spearmen, hashishim, tabardariyya, saracen spearmen etc.
