Consolidated Cash Flow Statement (Influential Ownership Equity Investment)
How to record an influential investment of equity ownership (20 percent to 50 percent) of a company on the consolidated statement of cash flows, reporting equity income received from the ownership interest in the company, the example is based on a company (Corp-P) purchasing 30 percent of the common stock (equity interest) of another company (Corp-C), a determination and distribution schedule is setup calculating the implied fair value of the company (Corp-C based on the price paid by Corp-P) and the book value of Corp-C's equity is subtracted from its implied fair value to determine the excess of fair value over book value, the amortization of the excess is calculated, equity income from the investment in Corp-C provides funds only to the extent of dividends received, a schedule is shown where (Corp-P's percent of net income received, less amortization of excess equals equity income, less percent of dividends received equals noncash income which has to be subtracted from consolidated net income of the consolidated statement of cash flows), detailed accounting by Allen Mursau

Encouraging Employees to Think & Act Like Owners Through Equity-Based Compensation -- Gary Schafer
The recent economic environment—specifically the lack of growth in compensation—has led some employers to consider different incentive compensation models for employees. Visit http://www.bkd.com for additional information on compensation trends.
BKD Partner Gary Schafer offers more details.
Equity-based compensation is a tool for some companies looking for ways to keep key employees and attract growth with minimal initial cash outlay. There are several methods available, including equity-based compensation, stock option plans, stock grants, deferred compensation plans and ESOPs. Finding the right compensation structure depends on the employer's goals and requirements. Choosing the right plan for your business largely depends on your goals; companies that want to offer good employee incentive with minimal cash requirements might consider a stock option plan, while companies looking to keep a simple ownership structure could consider a deferred compensation system.

Applewood Pointe: Cooperatives build owner equity
As an owner in a cooperative, you're building equity, just like any other homeowner. Cooperative housing is joint ownership and operation of a housing development by members of those who live in it. Each member at Applewood Pointe purchases a share, which provides equity to secure a mortgage.

How to Craft a Winning Market Entry Strategy: Part 4 -- Equity Ownership
http://DonaldMcMichael.com
We continue our investigation of the methods we can employ to expand businesses into new markets.
Inside today's video we will focus on equity investment options. If the initiating entity can stand the potential short-term valuation hit they can be positioned to reap the benefit of full participation in a market. It takes a strong mindset to follow this path for ownership requires the greatest commitment of capital and managerial effort.
My goal with this video blog series is to have you take something away from each part, whether it's a reminder about an old friend or new perspective.
Best,
Don
P.S. Don't forget to rate my video and leave a comment if you have something to add.

In order to account for contributed capital you will need to have the right accounts set up in the equity section of your balance sheet. This will depend on how the ownership is set up. While the concept is the same, the balance sheet accounts in the equity section of your books will vary in terms of the names. For example with a corporation (or S-Corp) you will have "shareholders". With an LLC you have "members", and with a partnership you have partners. Depending on how detailed you want to be you can break up the owner capital accounts into essentially 3 accounts; investments, draws, and earnings. The last account, earning would be used to allocate net income according to the proportion of ownership at the end of an accounting period. But that's another tutorial for another day. Let's focus on accounting for contributed capital now that we have our accounts set up.

Stock Issue (Preemptive Rights, Protects Shareholder Proportionate Interest In Company)
Accounting for stock issued with preemptive rights, issuing stock with preemptive rights protects existing stockholders from involuntary dilution of ownership interest, preemptive rights protects shareholders interest in the Corp from being reduced by the issuance of additional stock without their knowledge & prices unfavorable to them, Preemptive stock rights allows each owner to purchase stock to retain the same proportionate interest in the Corp for any new issues of stock of the same class, example for President-A issues capital stock par value $200K to himself for cash, Retired-B objected & claims his interest is injured thru not offerring stock based on preemptive stock rights, involuntary dilution of ownership interest, the imbalance thru preemptive stock rights can be corrected by issuing other owners capital stock equal to % of their present holdings, proportionate ownership has been restored, detailed accounting by Allen Mursau

There are only three housing sectors.
Ownership
Rental
Equity Sharing
Equity Sharing, although lesser known, is actually better than home ownership or renting. Why? Homeowners that are in jeopardy of losing their homes to foreclosure can create a simple equity share arrangement with their foreclosing lender and actually improve their situation. The owner can offer the lender a share of future home appreciation in exchange for an affordable monthly payment. This benefits both parties equally for long term investment security and continued occupancy. This video explains the perfect homeowner-lender equity share scenario; a solution that can completely cure all distressed real estate anywhere in the United States.

Return on Equity Explained - (ROE)
Here's a cool video that explains everything you need to know about Return on Equity. Return on equity or (ROE) is the rate of return on any ownership interest from common stock owners. This is also called Shareholder's Equity. ROE measures the firm's efficiency of generating the profits -- (Assets minus liabilities and also called Net Assets). Return on Equity will also show you how the company is using the investment funds and how it generates the growth. Look for 17% as a good starting point. Other words associated with this type of video are investing, stocks, money investor relations and return of shareholder's equity. We hope you enjoyed "Return on Equity - Explained."
