Jim Flaherty Cries For Rob Ford At A Press Conference
This video I had done on the first day I arrived in Santiago but I lacked an internet connection to upload it. However, I was commenting on the story that came out about Jim Flaherty tearing up at a press conference when asked about Rob Ford. Luckily the Rob Ford debacle is still ongoing so this new is still fresh. Enjoy. http://www.onthebrinkbook.com http://www.facebook.com/onthebrinkbook- published: 20 Nov 2013

SYNOPSIS
Through the eyes of a young girl suffering from mental illness, CALDERA glimpses into a world of psychosis and explores a world of ambiguous reality and the nature of life and death.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
CALDERA is inspired by my father's struggle with schizoaffective disorder. In states of delusion, my father has danced on the rings of Saturn, spoken with angels, and fled from his demons. He has lived both a fantastical and haunting life, but one that's invisible to the most of us. In our differing understanding of reality, we blindly mandate his medication, assimilate him to our marginalizing culture, and entirely misinterpret him for all he is worth. CALDERA aims to not only venerate my father, but all brilliant minds forged in the haunted depths of psychosis.
HISTORY
CALDERA was helmed by Evan Viera (Director/Composer/Co-Writer) and Chris Bishop (Co-writer/Animation Supervisor/Story Artist) and was produced at Hampshire College. CALDERA was the first film to go through the Bit Films Incubator Program, where founder and professor Chris Perry (co-producer/editor) invites orphaned independent films to be made on campus with the College's students and resources. MANY students and industry professionals generously donated their time to the making of this film. See below for the full credits list.

Roulette TV: BILL ORCUTT & CHRIS CORSANO
Roulette TV caught solo sets and a world premere duo performance by Bill Orcutt ("one of the most influential noise artists of the 20th century") and Chris Corsano ( “one of the most exciting drummers on the planet”) - and asked the tough questions:
"What is your name and what do you do?"
"Why are the two of you playing together?"
"Why play loud?"
"Why do your records sound the way they do?"
"Why modify your instrument?"
"WHY MAKE MUSIC?"
CHRIS CORSANO
First spellbound by freely improvised music in the mid-1990s after witnessing performances by TEST, William Parker, Cecil Taylor, and others, Chris Corsano began a long-standing, high-energy partnership with Paul Flaherty in 1998. A move from western Massachusetts, USA to the UK in 2005 led Corsano to develop an expanded solo music of his own, incorporating sax reeds, violin strings and bows, pot lids, and other everyday household items into his drum kit. In February 2006 he released his first solo recording, The Young Cricketer, and toured extensively throughout Europe, USA, and Japan. He spent 2007 and ’08 as the drummer on Björk’s Volta world tour, all the while weaving in shows and recordings on his days off with the likes of Evan Parker, Virginia Genta, and C. Spencer Yeh. Moving back to the U.S. in 2009, Corsano returned focus to his own projects, most notably a duo with Michael Flower, Rangda (with Sir Richard Bishop and Ben Chasny) and solo work, now revamped to include synthesizers and contact microphones in addition to his drum set and home-made acoustic instruments.
BILL ORCUTT
Former guitarist and founder of the noise/punk rock duo Harry Pussy (later a trio) Bill Orcutt’s sound is a hiccup-stuttered reimagining of blues guitar. One can hear familiar Southern folk scales between Orcutt’s jagged solo acoustic phrases, pulling and pushing melodies into unresolved fragments that eventually come unmoored in vast and satisfying note-torrents.

CPP reform divides Jim Flaherty and finance ministers
http://www.peoplestandup.ca Canada's finance ministers agree that the Canada Pension Plan needs reform, but without Ottawa's support they left a meeting on Monday with no consensus to move forward We've heard it time and time again: Canadians just aren't saving enough for retirement. In capitals across the country, the fear is that many of the growing number of baby boomers settling into retirement face an uncertain financial future. But while the country's finance ministers can agree on the demographic challenge, there's only a sliver of common ground on how to solve it as they prepare to meet Monday at Meech Lake. Ontario and a handful of other provinces want to enhance the Canada Pension Plan, increasing the premiums paid now for higher payouts upon retirement. Alberta, on the other hand, prefers pooled registered pension plans, voluntary programs that employees can use to supplement their retirement savings. Quebec already took a similar approach, approving the Voluntary Retirement Savings Plan earlier this month. Where does Ottawa stand? Well, with a foot on both sides of the retirement fence, it would seem. Finance Minister Jim Flaherty isn't exactly saying no to enhancing the CPP. But he insists global economic recovery remains too fragile to increase the CPP payroll tax imposed equally on workers and their employers. His junior finance minister is more absolute. Kevin Sorenson penned an op-ed piece this week warning of dire consequences if premiums are increased, including the loss ofCPP payroll tax . "Families and the Canadian economy cannot afford a dramatic expansion to the Canadian Pension Plan that will take more money out of the pockets of employees, and force employers to cut jobs, hours and wages," Sorenson wrote. Cue the alarm bells at the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. The association, which represents thousands of small business owners across the country, released a public opinion poll this week that suggests a majority of Canadians oppose mandatory CPP increases. At the other end of the spectrum is the Canadian Association of Retired Persons, known as CARP. It says 12 million Canadians, nearly two-thirds of the workforce, do not have a private pension plan. Many of them have no other source of retirement income than the Canada Pension Plan. On Friday, CARP sent out a news release warning the federal government that its members will not tolerate inaction. It said seniors, as a group, are very active voters and their numbers are growing every year. "Action on CPP is a ballot-box issue and [CARP members] will be watching closely what happens at Meech Lake," the release said. Forced to save Supporters of increasing premiums rely on one basic argument. CPP is a mandatory program. Voluntary plans, such as those favoured by Ottawa and Alberta, will not do the job. They argue few Canadians contribute to RRSPs, and even fewer contribute the maximum. The evidence bears them out. Statistics Canada reports only a quarter of Canadians contribute to RRSPs, and of those, only a fraction put in the- published: 17 Dec 2013
