Jon Bruning (born April 30, 1969) is the 31st Attorney General of the state of Nebraska and a candidate for the United States Senate. A Republican, he was a Member of the Nebraska State Legislature from 1996 until his resignation in 2002 following his election to the position of Attorney General.
Bruning was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, a fifth generation Nebraskan, and graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School. After high school, Bruning went on to the University of Nebraska where he received a Bachelor's degree in 1990. After completing his undergraduate studies, Bruning attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor with distinction in 1994.
Bruning served as general counsel for Vital Learning Corporation from 1995 to 1997.
Bruning ran for the Senate's 3rd District of the Nebraska Legislature in 1996. He defeated incumbent Michael Avery 55%–44%. He was the youngest member of the legislature. In 1998, he sponsored a bill that would extend loans to college students in order to encourage them to stay in the state. He won re-election in 2000 unopposed. By 2002, Nebraska was the only state to only use the electric chair for death penalty. He sponsored legislation to legalize lethal injection.
Ashley Wagner (born May 16, 1991) is an American figure skater. She is the 2012 Four Continents champion, the 2012 U.S. champion and a two-time (2008 and 2010) U.S. bronze medalist. She is a two-time (2007 and 2009) World Junior bronze medalist. She placed fourth at the 2012 World Championships.
Ashley Wagner is the first child and only daughter of LTC Eric Wagner, U.S. Army (Retired) and Melissa Wagner. A military brat, Wagner was born on a U.S. Army Base in Heidelberg, Germany, where her father was stationed at the time. Although she was born in Germany, she is a United States citizen, because her parents are U.S. citizens. Her father is a retired Army lieutenant colonel, and her mother is a retired fourth-grade teacher. Her younger brother Austin is also a skater and competes on the national level.
Because Wagner's father was in the military, her family moved seven times during Wagner's childhood. Besides Germany, she has lived in California, Alaska, Kansas, Washington State, and Virginia. Wagner currently lives in Alexandria, Virginia, but considers Seabeck, WA home. She previously attended Northern Virginia Community College via their online study program. Wagner attended West Potomac High School through the 2007/2008 school year. She had previously attended Whitman Middle School. Wagner was home schooled by her mother for half a year before entering Whitman Middle School but returned to public school because she missed it.
Don Stenberg is a Republican politician and attorney from Nebraska. He served as Attorney General of Nebraska from 1991 to 2003 and currently serves as State Treasurer of Nebraska to which he took office in 2011. He also served as legal counsel to Governor Charles Thone from 1979 to 1983.
Stenberg was born and raised in Tekamah, Nebraska. To pay for college, he detasseled corn, hauled bales, mowed lawns, and life guarded at the local swimming pool. After graduating from University of Nebraska–Lincoln (1970), Harvard Law School (1974), and Harvard Business School (1974) he practiced law in Lincoln.
In 1978, Stenberg ran for Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska, coming in fourth in the Republican primary with just 13% of the vote. Roland A. Luedtke won the primary with a plurality of 31%.
In 1979, he was named as Legal Counsel to Republican Governor of Nebraska Charles Thone. Don has also served as Director of the Governor’s Policy Research Office, Assistant to the Governor, and Director of the Department of Administrative Services.
Debra Strobel 'Deb' Fischer (born March 1, 1951) is a member of the Nebraska Legislature and Nebraska's Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate. Her rural legislative district is in the north-central portion of the state and is the largest geographically in Nebraska. She is running for a Senate seat against against former Senator Bob Kerrey.
Debra Strobel was born in 1951 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her father, Jerry Strobel, was the state directory of roads under governor Kay Orr. In 1972, she married Bruce Fischer of Valentine, Nebraska, whom she had met while both attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln; she left school without completing her degree to move to Valentine with her husband. In 1988, she returned to the University and completed her B.S. degree in education.
The Fischers operate the family ranch, Sunny Slope Ranch, near Valentine. Their adults sons Adam, Morgan, and Luke own the majority of the stock in the family corporation, while Debra and Bruce Fischer retain a minority share.
