Uttara Kosala was one of the five main divisions of the kingdom of Rama in prehestoric Awadh. Uttara Kosala corresponds to the modern trans-Ghaghra districts including Bahraich, Gonda, Basti and Gorakhpur.
It is mentioned in later texts that Ayodhya, which was known as Kosala, was later divided into two parts – Uttara Kosala and Dakshina Kosala ... divided into two parts – Uttara Kosala and Dakshina Kosala.
