La tercera entrega de la Historia del Lied en siete conciertos se dedicó íntegramente al ciclo Die Schöne Magelone de Johannes Brahms. Este vídeo recoge una amplia selección de una particular interpretación que alterna la historia resumida por un narrador (Luis Gago) con la ejecución de una selección de Lieder (Stephan Loges y Roger Vignoles). Se ofrece así al oyente una escucha contextualizada que facilita una mejor comprensión de los recursos compositivos empleados por Brahms. Die Schöne Magelone parte de un texto de Ludwig Tieck cuyas raíces se remontan a la Edad Media, contando una historia que gozaba de una amplia difusión por toda Europa. Esta actitud "escapista", tan frecuente en el Romanticismo, conduce hasta un periodo histórico que idealiza cuestiones como el valor, el honor o la libertad. Solo a través de la comprensión de la historia que contó Tieck es posible apreciar en toda su dimensión las sutilezas de estos Lieder de Brahms.

A few years ago, a friend recommended to me listening to Bernarda Fink. I didn't even know her. I bought a couple of cd's , this one and the Dvořák Lieder one. As soon as the first lied started, she was already in my personal top ten...she still is.

Roger Vignoles
Roger Vignoles, born 12 July 1945 in Cheltenham, the son of Keith Hutton Vignoles TD (1905-1991) and Phyllis Mary née Pearson (1907-1994); he is the great-great grandson of Charles Blacker Vignoles.
Roger is a British pianist and accompanist. He regularly performs with the world’s leading singers – including Kiri Te Kanawa, Thomas Allen, Anne Sofie von Otter, Thomas Hampson, Gitta-Maria Sjøberg, Sarah Walker, Sylvia McNair, Susan Graham, Christine Brewer, Felicity Lott, Stephan Genz, Monica Groop, Wolfgang Holzmair, Bernarda Fink, Christine Schäfer, Brigitte Fassbaender and Kathleen Battle – at many halls and festivals. He also accompanies instrumentalists such as Joshua Bell, Heinrich Schiff, Nobuko Imai and Ralph Kirshbaum, and gives masterclasses around the world.
He lists Gerald Moore as his inspiration for pursuing a career in accompaniment. He read music at Magdalene College, Cambridge, then joined the Royal Opera House as a repetiteur before completing his training with Paul Hamburger. He is widely recorded and generally regarded as one of the foremost piano accompanists alive today.

La tercera entrega de la Historia del Lied en siete conciertos se dedicó íntegramente al ciclo Die Schöne Magelone de Johannes Brahms. Este vídeo recoge una amplia selección de una particular interpretación que alterna la historia resumida por un narrador (Luis Gago) con la ejecución de una selección de Lieder (Stephan Loges y Roger Vignoles). Se ofrece así al oyente una escucha contextualizada que facilita una mejor comprensión de los recursos compositivos empleados por Brahms. Die Schöne Magelone parte de un texto de Ludwig Tieck cuyas raíces se remontan a la Edad Media, contando una historia que gozaba de una amplia difusión por toda Europa. Esta actitud "escapista", tan frecuente en el Romanticismo, conduce hasta un periodo histórico que idealiza cuestiones como el valor, el honor o la libertad. Solo a través de la comprensión de la historia que contó Tieck es posible apreciar en toda su dimensión las sutilezas de estos Lieder de Brahms.
