The FA Community Shield - 2011 Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United Pitchside Highlights
FATV exclusive pitchside highlights, bringing you closer to the action...
Manchester United completed a stunning fightback to clinch The FA Community Shield at Wembley, coming from two down at half-time to beat their City rivals.
Joleon Lescott had headed Roberto Mancini's team into the lead after half an hour, and against the run of play they took a two-goal advantage when Edin Dzeko struck from distance. But United proved once again they are at their most dangerous when seemingly beaten, with Chris Smalling and a brace from man of the match Nani completing the comeback.
United had made a fast start with the counter attacking options of Young, Nani, Rooney and Welbeck causing City a number of concerns in the opening ten minutes. Young saw the clearest chance after just three minutes, but a deflection saw his shot go wide for a corner. From the resulting deliver Nani and Smalling both had opportunities to shoot but neither troubled Joe Hart's goal.
City created problems of their own with Richards typically providing energy on the right flank, his cross was aimed for the Bosnian striker but Vidic got their first and turned ball behind for a corner.
No one expected it to be a friendly affair with the rivalry between these two clubs, and three players went into Phil Dowd's book inside the opening quarter of the game. Vidic and Balotelli were the first to enliven the game with a coming together, but when Anderson and Dzeko squared off they both received yellow cards. Micah Richards then went in late on England teammate Ashley Young and also went into the book.
Moments after it was the more aesthetic side of play that took over. Nani, Welbeck and Evra combined to produce a flowing move midway through the first half, passing their way through the City midfield and defence, only the final ball was lacking from the England forward as he looked for Nani underneath the posts.
Despite the early chances for United, it was the blue half of Wembley that cheered the opening goal. Joleon Lescott rose highest to glance home a superbly delivered free-kick from David Silva. For all the possession and time spent in the final third, United found themselves trailing to City at Wembley just as they did in The FA Cup Semi-Final in April.
If that came against the run of play, then City's second strike came like a bolt from the blue. Edin Dzeko picked up the ball 30 yards from goal and let fly with a speculative low effort that flew into the net. David De Gea, United's new signing from Athletico Madrid, will not be happy with himself however as despite the pace of the shot it crossed the line fairly close to the Spanish Under-21 stopper.
Sir Alex Ferguson reacted at half-time by introducing three of his younger charges, including summer signing Phil Jones. Vidic went off for the Blackburn defender, while Jonny Evans came on for Ferdinand and Tom Cleverley replaced Michael Carrick.
United hit back inside seven minutes, a curling free-kick from Young was met perfectly by the unmarked Chris Smalling who prodded past a helpless Joe Hart. It was little more than United deserved for all their dominance, but Roberto Mancini may question how the United defender found so much space in front of goal.
Just six minutes later and United were level with a goal of sheer quality. Substitute Cleverley combined with Rooney and Welbeck before Nani completed a truly stunning move with a chip over the advancing Joe Hart.
Manchester City rarely troubled David De Gea in the period that followed, but United's flowing football continued despite the average of the team reducing with every substition. When Rafael Da Silva took the captain's armband from Patrice Evra one might have assumed it the exuberance of youth, but scouring the rest of the team only Rooney could have significantly greater claim to the armband on experience and stature.
The introduction of livewire Adam Johnson saw a burst of life, and a rasping left-footed effort was beaten away by De Gea as a signal that City were not out of this contest.
The game seemed to be heading to penalties when in injury time, Nani grabbed a second and completed a remarkable comeback for the red half of Manchester.
Wayne Rooney had cleared a City corner up into the air, and when Vincent Kompany failed to clear the bouncing ball Nani was presented with a clear run on goal. Showing great composure in the dying seconds, the Portuguese winger glided past Hart and slotted home the winner in front of the United faithful.

2009 FA Community Shield penalty shootouts (eng)
With the score tied at the end of 90 minutes, penalty shootouts will determine the winner of this match. I'll admit that I wasn't happy to see Wayne Rooney score in the dying moments, but it comes to no surprise with a caliber player like Rooney scoring from out of nowhere. I recognize his abilities but I wasn't happy when he tied the game, but the defense is too blame here as well, they were simply caught napping. But what a special moment, Carlo Ancelotti's very first trophy in the English League.
ENJOY!

The FA Community Shield - Man City 3-2 Chelsea Official Community Shield Match Highlights
Three goals in the space of 12 second-half minutes steered Premier League champions Manchester City FC to a 3-2 comeback victory over Chelsea FC in the FA Community Shield.
Roberto Mancini's side made their intentions clear in the opening exchanges with a high-tempo approach, while Chelsea defended with stout determination, launching sporadic forays forward. Their caution prevailed, however, when Fernando Torres broke the deadlock five minutes before the break. Ramires was the catalyst, surging towards goal and freeing the Spain striker, who lifted the ball past Costel Pantilimon.
The London side's spirit was dampened two minutes later when Branislav Ivanović was sent off for a tackle on fellow Serbian international Aleksandar Kolarov. City seized the initiative, levelling eight minutes after the restart. Yaya Touré began the move, before pouncing on John Terry's clearance and finding the net with an emphatic low finish.
Carlos Tévez turned the match on its head moments later, traversing the face of the Chelsea penalty area and unleashing an unstoppable effort which left Petr Čech rooted to the spot. Samir Nasri made it three on 65 minutes, latching on to Kolarov's centre and deftly deflecting the ball beyond Čech.
Roberto Di Matteo's charges rallied and were rewarded when left-back Ryan Bertrand reduced the deficit with 11 minutes remaining, yet it proved in vain as City held on to lift the trophy for the fourth time and first since 1972.

2009 FA Community Shield (eng)
Its days before the 2010 FA Community Shield will take place, in a rematch of last year's game between two strong sides in the Premier League, Chelsea FC and Manchester United FC. Normally its the Premier League champions of the last term up against the FA Cup winners, but since Chelsea completed the Double of the League and Cup then last year's match will take place this upcoming term.
This is was the curtain raiser for the 2009-2010 Premier League season, and one that I was very happy to see the result going Chelsea's way. Also I am an AC Milan supporter and to see Carlo Ancelotti given a lot of faith to guide Chelsea after two Champions League trophies (three trips to the Champions League final overall). Juventus fired this man back in 2001, a sorry mistake they'll have to live with. But fortunately for Milan, he has brought a lot of success and attracted great players. I hope El Kun Agüero is lured into Stamford Bridge soon.
ENJOY!

The FA Community Shield - 2011 Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United Community Shield - FATV Official Tunnelcam
FATV brings to you an exclusive tunnel cam from today's long awaited clash between the Manchester giants.
Nani's 94th-minute winner completed a superb comeback by Manchester United as they overcame derby rivals Manchester City to clinch the Community Shield.
With no extra-time to be played and penalties looming, the Portuguese winger pounced on some hesitant City defending to run on to a Wayne Rooney clearance, round Joe Hart and slot home.
City had led 2-0 at half-time after a shaky start by United's Spanish keeper David De Gea saw him beaten by Joleon Lescott's header and Edin Dzeko's long-distance drive.
But United, beaten at Wembley on their last two visits - by Barcelona in the Champions League final and City in the FA Cup semi-final - responded by taking the game to their neighbours and ultimately they got their reward.
Chris Smalling reduced the deficit when he turned in Ashley Young's free-kick before Nani levelled before the hour mark by finishing off a stunning passing move.
City held firm and even threatened to retake the lead when Adam Johnson tested De Gea, but it was United who laid down the marker for the forthcoming Premier League campaign, beginning the defence of their title by collecting more silverware.
In truth, Sir Alex Ferguson's men could have been out of sight by the time City scored, with new signing Young quickly looking at home down the left flank, but they could not make the most of their vastly superior possession.
Young had a shot deflected narrowly wide before Lescott blocked Smalling's volley on the line, but United's best efforts were free-kicks from Rooney and Nani which flew narrowly off target, the latter deflecting off Dzeko.
