Being Jewish in China:The Current Situation of the Kaifeng Jews
Since the beginning of the reform era in 1979, a vast resurgence of a large variety of religious, ethnic and cultural identities has been sweeping China. The wave of interest in old traditions has had a major effect on the descendants of the ancient Jewish community of Kaifeng. With no synagogue or rabbi since the mid-19th century, until very recently the Jews of Kaifeng had almost completely assimilated into the Chinese world around them. In recent years, some members of the community have begun to examine and explore their Jewish roots. Interest in the faith of their ancestors and increasing contact with Jews from Israel and elsewhere has even led some of the community members towards conversion to Judaism. This talk is based on a visit by Gideon Elazar with the community in Kaifeng under the auspices of the organization "Shavei Yisrael" during the holiday of Sukkot, and an analysis of their history and current situation in the context of contemporary China.

Chinese and Western Perspectives on the Jewish Community of Kaifeng
Prof. Lihong Song (Nanjing University) visits UCLA to present the seminar, "Chinese and Western Perspectives on the Jewish Community of Kaifeng: Towards a Fusion of Horizons." Held at Royce Hall on Nov. 15, 2012.
The Jewish past in Kaifeng, China stretches back more than a thousand years. Most scholars agree that a Jewish community existed in Kaifeng, once an important stop on the Silk Road, since the Northern Song Dynasty (9601127). Some experts date the arrival of Jews to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) or even earlier. Since the discovery of the community by the Jesuits in the 17th century, it has triggered legions of scholarly activity. Working on the same historical evidence, however, Chinese and western scholars usually drew drastically different conclusions. Reflections on the differences will not only lay bare the orientations of Jewish studies in China, but also shed light on the worlds in which we live.

河南开封郑氏花样石锁部分技法Stone Lock Training Methods from Kaifeng,Henan
The Stone Lock(石锁Shi Sou) is an age old strength exercises which was very popular among Chinese Martial Artists. Today it seems to be mostly practiced by Shuai Jiao Practitioners and the Hui People(回族). The Hui are a Ethnic Minority who are Muslims. Popular Chinese Martial Arts practiced by them are the Cha Quan, Baji Quan, Xinyiliuhe Quan and the Pigua Quan.
Some might see a connection between the Stone Lock and todays Kettlebells, but to draw a direct connection seems not possible through resources.
By looking at them they seem also similar to me. So maybe the stone lock is the Ancestor of the Kettlebell or the maybe are paralell invenstions.(Does have anyone different infos on that? ).
I also read the other Ancient countries like the Greeks had similar training tools.
It seems also not clear when the Stone Lock orginated in China.I read sources that say it was invented during Han Dynasty, or others even saying that it was already their in Xia Dynasty. Others spoke about orginating in Mongolia.
This Demonstration is from Kaifeng in Henan. This is the Capital City of Henan Province.
If anyone has further knowledge on this subject I would be pleased if you share. Thank you.
