Oil'd
In April 2010 a massive oil spill began in the Gulf. The entire country was glued to the news until the well was capped, and then we forgot about it.
As the year anniversary was approaching I became curious, just how much oil was that exactly? Where would it have gone? What I found was shocking.
So in an effort to further our discussion on oil dependency I created this short animation to help illustrate just how dependent we truly are on oil.

www.savethedelawareriver.com
This is an urgent call to the fans of GASLAND and to the fracking movement across the nation, please act now to Save the Delaware River. On November 21st, the Delaware River Basin commission will vote on a plan to allow 20,000 gas wells in the Delaware River basin. We need calls to come from all over the nation and we need people from all over the region to come out in protest on November 21st.
The Delaware River Basin commission is comprised of five voting members, Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York, Governor Christie of New Jersey, Governor Corbett of Pennsylvania, Governor Markell from Delaware and the Obama Administration represented by the Army Corps of Engineers. For the Delaware River to be opened up to drilling three out of five have to vote yes on the draft regulations plan. We need them all to reject the proposal and reject gas drilling and fracking.
There has never been a more urgent moment in the North east in the battle against fracking. The Delaware is the primary drinking water source for 15.6 million people and it is a national treasure.
Four actions you can take:
1) Call the the Governors from the member states and President Obama TODAY and tell them, "Hello, I am calling you to express my serious concerns about hydrofracking. Please Don’t Drill the Delaware!"
Governor Christie’s office - 609-292-6000
Governor Cuomo’s office - 518-474-8390
Gov Corbett’s office – 717-787-2500
Gov Markell’s Wilmington Office - 302-577-3210
And the white house comment line is 202-456-1111
2) Come to the DRBC meeting!
When: November 21, 8 am
Where: Patriots Theater at the War Memorial, 1 Memorial Drive Trenton, N.J. Map HERE.
There are over 20 buses traveling in from all over the region. Click HERE for bus sign up.
3) Delaware Riverkeeper will be hosting a Peaceful Non-Violent Direct Action Training on November 20th. For more information, sign up HERE.
4) If you work with an organization fighting to keep our water safe from hydraulic fracturing, please send this alert to those in your membership, and post it on facebook.
We will continue to send updates in the coming weeks.
For more information go to www.savethedelawareriver.com or visit www.delawareriverkeeper.org
With your help, we can stop the poisoning of our historic rivers and move to renewable and sustainable energy solutions.
Thanks for all you do! Together we can turn the tide.

Larry's Testimony in Support of HB 2372
Testimony of Larry Halloran in support of HB 2372;
Chairman Kinzer and Members of the House Judiciary Committee,
We ask for your support of HB 2372; An Act concerning immigration; requiring verification of employment eligibility and making other amendments concerning immigration.
The fundamental question today is not illegal immigration itself. If we are a nation of laws and are faithful to our obligations as citizens or legislators then we will rightfully conclude that the rule of law is the bedrock foundation of our society and passage of this legislation should require little debate.
I would not dispute that employer and citizen alike have found the blind eye beneficial to their pocket book but financial gain, open borders or humanitarian compassion are not acceptable substitutes for the rule of law. Yesterdays benefit (however perceived) is today's liability as our citizens find themselves struggling to meet the increased burden of illegal immigration on our society that cannot be measured in financial terms alone.
The blessings and benefits of America are bountiful. But, if they are to be preserved for our posterity and those seeking the benefit of citizenship they must be secured by principled adherence to our state and federal Constitutions.
Illegal immigration is a festering cancer that damages both our society and those unlawfully seeking employment. It creates the necessity for a second society operating under the radar that inhibits the necessary assimilation of new immigrants into the America family. We are no longer concerned with a few thousand illegal immigrants that could be easily absorbed but rather tens of millions that now tax the limits of our social networks. It is past time for the half measured approaches, nod and wink policies and felonious excuses of citizen, employer and legislator alike related to the employment eligibility of illegal immigrants are put to rest. It is time that a lawful approach to employment eligibility verification becomes the rule for all employers and the accepted social norm for all citizens. Of even greater importance is that you, the citizen legislator, honor your oath of office and uphold the rule of law.
Our Founders studied the laws and customs of many nations (both failed and existing) and took from them guidance for our Constitution that best protected a free people and society. For over 200 years, our Constitution has served as the legal binder for our citizens and those wishing to assimilate into a free society. Today, many seek to dilute the authority of our Constitution through substitution of unlawful privileges that in essence establish an equal but separate society within our borders. A society that stands in stark contrast and in opposition to the fundamental necessity of assimilation at the expense of individual liberties guaranteed to all by our Constitution. Such practices serve to disadvantage the citizens and legal immigrants that play by the rules and adhere to our laws by granting unearned favor to the illegal immigrant.
Surely, we are all aware of the inequities, consequences and unquestionable failures of equal but separate jurisprudence practiced at times within our own society. To turn a blind eye or foster such practices is treasonous to our founding principles, documents and the faith of those who gave all to defend and preserve the greatest grant of freedom ever known to man; America.
The challenges before us in preserving the free society and America are indeed great but do include a provision for national suicide. Tolerance does not beget equal but separate in a free society but instead requires assimilation through shared core values and equal application of the laws
Thank you for your favorable support of HB 2372, your service and the defense of freedom for all.
Respectfully,
Larry Halloran, Chairman

THE MISSION OF THE KEENE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA, founded by Eric Stumacher in 1990, is to provide rehearsals, performances, and recordings of orchestra repertoire at the highest artistic, expressive, and technical standard. KCO personnel combines Monadnock Region of New Hampshire and Greater New England resources ranging from professional musicians to skilled, talented, and enthusiastic student musicians of all ages. There is no age or background restriction. Our focuses are: love of music, craft, enthusiasm, constancy of commitment and effort, the highest possible artistic and technical excellence, and a desire to share the joy of orchestra music and the community it inspires.
The Orchestra will always strive to create an atmosphere of accessibility, warmth, challenge and encouragement for its participants, audience, and community, at the same time that it vigorously pursues artistic and technical excellence. Its musical approach ascribes to the values of chamber music, with special emphasis on specific listening, texture, blends of sound, phrasing, and expressive character.
The Orchestra is also strongly committed to instrumental instruction, music appreciation, scholarship, community development, and outreach chamber music and solo concerts.
We invite all who love vividly inspiring and expressive live orchestra music, and the powerful community energy it inspires, to join us in our pursuits.
ERIC STUMACHER, music director and conductor of the Keene Chamber Orchestra and founder and director of the Sonad Peace Project, sonadproject.org, has conducted concerts and performed concerti, solo recitals, and chamber music concerts worldwide to critical acclaim for over forty years. For thirty-five years, Eric served as founder, pianist, and executive and artistic director of the Apple Hill Chamber Players, Apple Hill, and the Apple Hill Playing for Peace Project, before resigning in October 2007 to establish the Sonad Peace Project. Eric is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and The Juilliard School. He resides in Nelson, NH with his wife Kathy, violist and administrator, and they have three amazing children and five astonishing grandchildren.
JOHN STEINMETZ, bassoonist, composer, and writer from Los Angeles, has participated in the Monadnock region's musical life for almost three decades. A frequent guest teacher and performer at Apple Hill summer sessions, where student and faculty groups often play his compositions, he has also toured with Apple Hill and with the Sonad Project. Two of his compositions have been premiered by the Keene Chamber Orchestra, a third was commissioned for the Apple Hill Chamber Players, and now On My Way has its premiere by the KCO and Keene Elementary Choirs.
John's compositions have been released on CDs from Albany, Helicon, Mark Masters, and Crystal. His articles about music, education, and technology have appeared in journals, magazines, and books, and his pamphlet for new listeners, "How to Enjoy a Live Concert," is published by Naxos and also available online.
John and his wife, violist Kazi Pitelka, live in Altadena, California. Both of their children have spent many happy summer days playing chamber music in New Hampshire. For more information, music excerpts, and articles, please visit johnsteinmetz.org.
MELANIE EVERARD, coordinator of the Steinmetz “On My Way” commission, is a music teacher specializing in Kodaly Philosophy at Franklin School in Keene. She is a graduate of Keene State College and the Kodaly Musical Training Institute, and studies piano with Eric Stumacher and harp with Mary Graham. PROGRAM NOTES
Steinmetz “On My Way” (2010) – world premiere
Program Note by the Composer
Every culture has ways for its young people to find or choose a life path. In the US adults often ask children, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” This is a question about career, but it is also about interest, passion, love—about what makes the child feel most alive. In some cultures people believe that every person selects a life purpose before birth and then forgets it, so elders must help children rediscover their purpose. Whatever options are available and however people understand the process, individuals and communities share in choosing roles for everybody.
In On My Way three groups of singers portray different aspects of choosing a life path. The children’s choir sings with curiosity
