Team USA vs. Dominican Republic Full Highlight 2012 HD

As if the game of basketball isn't easy enough for Kevin Durant, Team USA's 113-59 win over the Dominican Republic in a friendly exhibition was like a playpen for the NBA scoring leader. As the first American off the bench, Durant scored 24 points on 9-for-11 shooting from the field, and grabbed 10 rebounds. He was simply the perfect version of himself -- all arms, legs and marksmanship. Want to bring a smile to Durant's face? Just ask him about those extra 19 inches that turn a long NBA 2-pointer into a FIBA 3-pointer. "Man," Durant said as he laughed. "It's closer. The NBA 3 -- once you get up to that line, it's far. Playing FIBA, it's close. Hopefully, I'll make some more over there [in London]." Durant drained five of his six attempts from beyond the arc with his typically effortless stroke against an overmatched Dominican defense that was stretched to unreasonable limits. While Durant was a lock to make Team USA this summer, Andre Iguodala was far from a shoo-in. The Sixers forward snagged one of the final three spots last Saturday, touted for his defensive versatility. On Thursday night, Iguodala proved his worth -- on both ends. On a roster populated by freakish athletes, Iguodala looked the freakiest of all. He scored 18 points, going 7-for-9 from the field. Like Durant, Iguodala was also helped by the more generous international 3-point shot as he drilled 4 of 6 from downtown. As advertised, Iguodala dogged the Dominicans all night -- deflections, steals, entry passes that never materialized because his long limbs plugged the lanes. When necessary, he raced from perimeter to paint, switched out for the point guards and generally caused mischief. "It's something Coach [Mike Krzyzewski] talked about in one of the meetings," Iguodala said. "He wanted guys to have two different types of egos. One ego is going out there and representing your country. Then have the ego of your role. My role is defense." Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski emphasized that defense would be vital against the stiffer competition Team USA will encounter in London. "We're going to try to play pressure defense," Krzyzewski said. "If we fall back, we're just giving people rest and the ability to come down and use more seconds to attack us." As one of the best wing defenders in the game, Iguodala frequently finds himself defending the point in crucial possessions as a member of the 76ers. Given the premium Krzyzewski is placing on ball pressure and Iguodala's aforementioned role, it's highly likely the forward will log important minutes in key spots. Considering the collection of talent Team USA managing director Jerry Colangelo has assembled, it's not unreasonable to expect ego to surface at times, especially during a game whose outcome was determined when the team buses arrived at the Thomas & Mack Center. We see this alpha behavior routinely in NBA All-Star Games. Whether it's Krzyzewski's gravitas, the collective maturity of the roster or a patriotic instinct, there were no such displays on Thursday night. The ball popped around the perimeter, as Team USA relied on heavy doses of 4-out/1-in offense. The choreography might not have been complex, but the movements were pleasing to the eye. As the Americans took control early, the friendly became a parlor of game of "What's your favorite lineup?" Are you a classicist who likes the starters (Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James and Tyson Chandler)? Or the more unorthodox small-ball, dual-point-guard combination of Deron Williams and Russell Westbrook, along with Durant, Iguodala and James? Do you like James defending the center spot, allowing Chandler to prowl -- or should it be the other way around? The correct answer on Thursday night was all of the above. Team USA wasn't composed of bigs and smalls, perimeter snipers or pivot men. Everyone was simply a basketball player. "In the offensive game, we're interchangeable," Iguodala said. "We just play basketball." Despite Blake Griffin's knee injury hanging over Team USA, there was plenty of levity. A missed breakaway dunk by Russell Westbrook in the third quarter drew howls from his teammates on the USA bench. Leading by more than 30 points, the normally edgy Westbrook just laughed it off. And when James Harden, with less than a second remaining in the third quarter, heaved the ball in the air 30 feet from the basket, there was a round of giggles from his teammates, no doubt celebrating what the less charitable would call Harden's signature flop. Griffin's replacement, Anthony Davis, saw some action down the stretch and scored nine points in 10 minutes. He drew a huge roar from the crowd when he hit a 3-pointer despite being fouled. Tough start for the Americans. The Olympic basketball team couldn't get a stop, the president couldn't get a kiss. Eventually, things worked out for both of them. LeBron James scored 30 points and the U.S. rallied from an early 10-point deficit to beat Brazil 80-69 on Monday night in its final exhibition game on home soil. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden watched the Americans get off to a dismal start, then turn it around by holding the Brazilians to two baskets in the second quarter. "They came out really counterpunching and taking advantage of our aggressiveness on defense, and they're well coached. They came in with a great plan and executed their plan very well start of the game," U.S. guard Kobe Bryant said. "We made our adjustments second quarter, kept them to five points, which after the 20-something point first quarter is pretty impressive." James helped the U.S. pull away in the final four minutes after they led by only seven with 4½ minutes left, getting his final point on a free throw with 31 seconds left as Obama departed. James, who scored 14 points in the final period, said it was "humbling" and "overwhelming" to play in front of the president. "You have dreams about being in the NBA. You have dreams about making the game-winning shot at the buzzer. You never have dreams about having the president actually watching you play, because you don't think it's possible," he said. "It's definitely humbling, to see him here, the first lady and their kids here to watch us play. Really, it's amazing." Kevin Durant, a D.C. native, added 11 and Chris Paul scored 10 for the Americans, who will leave Tuesday for Europe to complete their Olympic preparations. They face Britain in Manchester, England on Thursday before traveling to Barcelona to play Argentina and Spain. It's a solid exhibition schedule, and this game showed the Americans have some work to do before they get to London. They were just 1 of 12 from 3-point range in the first half and struggled offensively when forced to play in the halfcourt. "It felt good, though, to compete and stuff like that," Paul said. "Like we said, our defense is what's going to win games for us and obviously we imposed that after the first quarter." The president met with the men's and women's teams, who swept the doubleheader from Brazil. He received a loud cheer when he arrived but like the U.S. players got off to a slow start. He needed a second chance in the fourth quarter before first lady Michelle Obama would grant him a kiss on the "Kiss Cam" segment, the crowd booing when she wouldn't allow him a smooch in the second quarter. "You know, PDA is not for everybody, you know what I mean?" Bryant said. "But he makes the important decisions, so it's all good." Players were just walking onto the floor for the jump ball when Obama and Biden emerged from the tunnel to take their seats. The start was delayed while they greeted fans, and perhaps the break had the U.S. players out of rhythm at the beginning of the game. James hit two free throws to open the scoring, but the Americans didn't make their first basket until more than 2½ minutes in after falling behind 7-2. Alex Garcia had two 3-pointers and two other baskets in the early going as Brazil pushed the lead to 17-7 barely five minutes into the game. Indicative of the way things were going for the Americans, Russell Westbrook came up with a steal near midcourt and was all alone for a layup that he somehow botched. The Brazilians scored the final four points of the period, taking a 27-17 lead on Anderson Varejao's jumper with 15.5 seconds left. Brazil coach Ruben Magnano said through an interpreter the goal was "not to focus on the names on the jersey and play the game, and they did it for almost 40 minutes ... head to head against the USA. "It was a very important challenge to make the team ready for the Olympics," he added.

Team USA vs. Argentina Full Highlight 2012 HD

Kevin Durant scored 27 points for the Americans, who wore the throwback uniforms of the 1992 Dream Team for their return to Barcelona. They looked like the Hall of Fame squad during a superb opening 10 minutes, but their lead was down to four with 2:50 left after Manu Ginobili's three-point play. Durant and Chris Paul then hit big 3-pointers as the Americans won after being pushed for the second time in their four exhibition games. Kobe Bryant added 18 points and James had 15 for the U.S., which beat Brazil 80-69 in a similarly rugged game last week in Washington. "It's tough. Argentina's a very good team, very tough-minded," Bryant said. "They continue to play hard and for us it was a big challenge to try to put the game away, we could just never do it." Ginobili scored 23 points, Carlos Delfino had 15, and Luis Scola 14 for Argentina. Back in Barcelona, where the Dream Team won gold 20 years earlier in historic and overwhelmingly easy fashion, the U.S. players wore that team's throwback uniforms. The white uniforms with red and blue along the side and USA in the middle also had the letters "CD" in gold on the left shoulder in honor of Chuck Daly, the Dream Team coach who died in 2009. "Those uniforms was nice," said Carmelo Anthony, wearing the No. 15 of Magic Johnson. "In the locker room, everybody was taking pictures with the uniforms. It just brings back so many memories from back then in '92." Otherwise, the Americans are more interested in building for London than reflecting too much on the past. Coach Mike Krzyzewski, a Dream Team assistant, made that clear Saturday at practice when he was asked about the old days. "I'm not here to sight see ... this isn't me doing a reminisce tour in my retirement," he said. The two games here should certainly help them get ready. The Americans play Spain on Tuesday, a rematch of their 118-107 win in the gold-medal game four years ago. First was Argentina, which won the 2004 Olympic gold medal, beating the U.S. in the semifinals. The Americans returned the favor four years later in the same round before recapturing the gold. Krzyzewski unveiled another starting lineup, with James, Durant, Bryant, Paul and Tyson Chandler. He has alternated the Durant- Anthony and Paul-Deron Williams combination, with the other three spots set. The first group got off to a sensational start, Durant opening with two 3-pointers before Bryant's basket made it 8-0. Scola made a free throw before Bryant and Durant nailed 3s, and Bryant dunked to make it 16-1 not even three minutes into the game. The lead grew to 19-3 on Bryant's 3-pointer, and Durant and Williams each hit one in the final minute as the Americans led 31-16 on the strength of seven 3-pointers. "They're immensely talented," Scola said. "They've got a lot of players in every position. They're too athletic, they're too talented. I think they're going to be OK." The Americans led by 20 early in the second, but like in their 101-81 victory in the Beijing semifinals, they began fouling too much and let Argentina back into it with its feisty, physical play. This "friendly" -- Scola and Kevin Love even appeared together at midcourt before the game to address the crowd, after Love was suspended two games during the NBA season for stepping on him -- didn't stay that way. Paul fouled guard Facundo Campazzo, who fell to the court after Paul appeared to hold onto him too long, with 5:33 left in the half and the U.S. up 14. Some words and light pushes were exchanged, Scola and Andres Nocioni involved along with Anthony and Durant. Argentina kept fighting, cutting it all the way to 45-40 in the last minute of the half before going into the break down by seven. "I think we competed, pretty much the whole game," Scola said. "We started bad, we've been starting bad this whole preparation. That's going to be a problem for us. We have to fix that and then they hit a lot of shots. Obviously they're capable of hitting shots." A contender for a podium spot for nearly a decade, Argentina is hoping the run isn't over for its "Golden Generation." The Argentines didn't medal in the 2010 worlds -- though Ginobili didn't play -- and were beaten by Spain by 20 on Friday. Ginobili is 34, Scola and Andres Nocioni are 32, Knicks-bound guard Pablo Prigioni is 35, Fabricio Oberto no longer plays, and the Argentines haven't found younger talent like they had in this group, which also won silver in the 2002 world basketball championship. But they don't go down easily, even when the game doesn't count. After James threw down two dunks to open the fourth quarter and push the U.S. lead to 15, the Argentines got it back to 10 midway through the period after Ginobili scored five straight points, and they had one more burst in them. The teams will meet again in their final pool-play matchup in London. The Americans believe games like this one will have them more ready for that
