Dongxiang Quan "Eastern Township Boxing"
This system is practiced in Anhui province, Anqing prefecture, Zongyang county's Chenhu region. Formerly part of Tongcheng county's Eastern Township administrative area.
Practitioners of this system trace their origins to Anqing's Zhang clan.
The Zhang's were one of Anhui's most famous military families. From the Tang to the Qing they produced countless military officers including having famous generals in nearly every dynasty from Tang to Qing.
During the Ming dynasty they became closely tied to the neighboring Zhao clan through a series of marriages.
In this way the Zhao clan came into possession of the Zhang clan's secret martial traditions.
During the Ming and Qing dynasties various members of the two clans occasionally instructed members of neighboring families in the martial arts.
By the late Qing dynasty the Chenhu region of Anqing's Eastern Township, the home of both the Zhang and Zhao clans, had become famous for it's boxing methods.
The mid Qing dynasty saw the peak of the Dongxiang martial arts' fame.
Today there are very few young people taking up the practice and like many of China's older traditional styles Dongxiang Quan is facing an uncertain future.

Days of torrential rain and flooding in central China has left 35 people dead and 30 missing. Tens of thousands have been evacuated in the worst hit areas, with thousands more stranded by floodwaters.
Thirty-five people have died after heavy rain and flooding in central China's Hubei and Hunan provinces, according to state media reports.
Heavy rain in Hubei's Xianning City triggered floods and landslides that toppled homes and destroyed river embankments. Local authorities report that 20 people have been killed and five others missing.
Over 60,000 residents have been evacuated from Xianning and nearly 100,000 people were stranded by floods in three of Xianning's counties.
In Tongcheng County, floodwaters more than 6.5 feet deep paralyzed traffic and cut power supplies and telecommunications, state television CCTV reported.
In Yueyang City in neighboring Hunan Province, 15 people were killed and 25 are missing, state media said.
And to make things worse... Guangdong and Fujian provinces are forecast to be hit by a tropical storm over the weekend, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.
Last week, much of China was plagued by a drought that damaged crops and cut power generation from dams.
The drought ended last weekend as rains brought deadly floods, which killed close to 100 people in 12 provinces.

Tens of thousands displaced by heavy snow in China. As of Friday, January 21, more than 79,000 people had been evacuated as heavy snow and rain disrupted road and air traffic, power, and communication in southwest China. Nearly 3 million residents were affected in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, where 6,200 were forced from their homes and 332 houses had collapsed as power lines were downed and 132 roads closed. A blizzard that persisted since Monday in neighboring Hunan province had uprooted 73,000, with service to 89,000 mobile phone users disrupted after nearly 3,000 wireless communication base stations lost power. To the province's north, Hubei's Tongcheng County experienced its heaviest snowfall in 35 years, prompting the evacuation of 2,700 people as another 8,000 were stranded by up to 25 centimeters of accumulated snow. In Chongqing Municipality, widespread damage to water pipes put 357,000 at risk of water shortages, while nearly 7.5 million people throughout 87 counties, cities and districts of Guizhou Province were afflicted by the severe weather. Local officials in the disaster-hit regions have been dispatching crews to provide relief to affected residents and remove ice from roads.
When a fatal cold snap was first reported in southwest China on January 7, Supreme Master Ching Hai had conveyed her sympathies and prayers as she requested that our Association members please check with the provincial governments to see if assistance was required. Saying that funds are available for urgent necessities, she asked once again upon receiving this update that they go if possible to comfort and aid the most vulnerable.
Our gratefulness for the efforts of all the Chinese officials and personnel responding to the situation, as well as for Supreme Master Ching Hai's loving concern. We pray for the protection of the Chinese people, and that such harsh weather extremes may be lifted through humanity's gentler treatment of our shared planetary home.

This story happend in City of Tongcheng of Anhui Province during Emperor Kang Xi's reign of Qing Dynasty.
Grand Secretary ZHANG Ying (张英)'s house was next to the house of WU's family. When WU built a new wall, it wanted to invade ZHANG's vacant land. The dispute between the two sides was submitted to the county government. ZHANG's family members sent ZHANG Ying a family letter to get his support. After reading the family letter, ZHANG Ying wrote a poem:
A family letter just for the space to build a wall,
Why not retreat 3 chi to give him more space?
The Great Wall is still there.
Where is Emperor Qin Shihuang?
ZHANG's family members were ashamed after reading ZHANG Ying's response letter. They retreated 3 chi of space to the WU family. Knowing what happened to ZHANG's family, WU's family also felt ashamed. They also retreated 3 chi of space to ZHANG. That was where the Six-chi Alley came from.

Dongxiang Quan "Eastern Township Boxing"
This system is practiced in Anhui province, Anqing prefecture, Zongyang county's Chenhu region. Formerly part of Tongcheng county's Eastern Township administrative area.
Practitioners of this system trace their origins to Anqing's Zhang clan.
The Zhang's were one of Anhui's most famous military families. From the Tang to the Qing they produced countless military officers including having famous generals in nearly every dynasty from Tang to Qing.
During the Ming dynasty they became closely tied to the neighboring Zhao clan through a series of marriages.
In this way the Zhao clan came into possession of the Zhang clan's secret martial traditions.
During the Ming and Qing dynasties various members of the two clans occasionally instructed members of neighboring families in the martial arts.
By the late Qing dynasty the Chenhu region of Anqing's Eastern Township, the home of both the Zhang and Zhao clans, had become famous for it's boxing methods.
The mid Qing dynasty saw the peak of the Dongxiang martial arts' fame.
Today there are very few young people taking up the practice and like many of China's older traditional styles Dongxiang Quan is facing an uncertain future.

Days of torrential rain and flooding in central China has left 35 people dead and 30 missing. Tens of thousands have been evacuated in the worst hit areas, with thousands more stranded by floodwaters.
Thirty-five people have died after heavy rain and flooding in central China's Hubei and Hunan provinces, according to state media reports.
Heavy rain in Hubei's Xianning City triggered floods and landslides that toppled homes and destroyed river embankments. Local authorities report that 20 people have been killed and five others missing.
Over 60,000 residents have been evacuated from Xianning and nearly 100,000 people were stranded by floods in three of Xianning's counties.
In Tongcheng County, floodwaters more than 6.5 feet deep paralyzed traffic and cut power supplies and telecommunications, state television CCTV reported.
In Yueyang City in neighboring Hunan Province, 15 people were killed and 25 are missing, state media said.
And to make things worse... Guangdong and Fujian provinces are forecast to be hit by a tropical storm over the weekend, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.
Last week, much of China was plagued by a drought that damaged crops and cut power generation from dams.
The drought ended last weekend as rains brought deadly floods, which killed close to 100 people in 12 provinces.

Nearly 3 million residents were affected in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, where 6,200 were forced from their homes and 332 houses had collapsed as power lines were downed and 132 roads closed. A blizzard that persisted since Monday in neighboring Hunan province had uprooted 73,000, with service to 89,000 mobile phone users disrupted after nearly 3,000 wireless communication base stations lost power. To the province's north, Hubei's Tongcheng County experienced its heaviest snowfall in 35 years, prompting the evacuation of 2,700 people as another 8,000 were stranded by up to 25 centimeters of accumulated snow. In Chongqing Municipality, widespread damage to water pipes put 357,000 at risk of water shortages, while nearly 7.5 million people throughout 87 counties, cities and districts of Guizhou Province were afflicted by the severe weather. Local officials in the disaster-hit regions have been dispatching crews to provide relief to affected residents and remove ice from roads.
When a fatal cold snap was first reported in southwest China on January 7, Supreme Master Ching Hai had conveyed her sympathies and prayers as she requested that our Association members please check with the provincial governments to see if assistance was required. Saying that funds are available for urgent necessities, she asked once again upon receiving this update that they go if possible to comfort and aid the most vulnerable.

This story happend in City of Tongcheng of Anhui Province during Emperor Kang Xi's reign of Qing Dynasty.
Grand Secretary ZHANG Ying (张英)'s house was next to the house of WU's family. When WU built a new wall, it wanted to invade ZHANG's vacant land. The dispute between the two sides was submitted to the county government. ZHANG's family members sent ZHANG Ying a family letter to get his support. After reading the family letter, ZHANG Ying wrote a poem:
A family letter just for the space to build a wall,
Why not retreat 3 chi to give him more space?
The Great Wall is still there.
Where is Emperor Qin Shihuang?
ZHANG's family members were ashamed after reading ZHANG Ying's response letter. They retreated 3 chi of space to the WU family. Knowing what happened to ZHANG's family, WU's family also felt ashamed. They also retreated 3 chi of space to ZHANG. That was where the Six-chi Alley came from.
