Upanishads II - Isa - FULL - English
This TextMovie is the English translation of the Isa Upanishad (Full). The reason this video is titled 'Upanishad II' is because it is second in the series of Upanishad translations in English, on which I have made and uploaded my TextMovies.

Track: Verses 1 - 2
Artist: Pt. Ganesh Vidyalankar
Album: Ish Upanishad
Description:
The Ish Upanishad is contained in the final chapter of the Shukla Yajurveda. It consists of 17 two-line verses covering a wide spectrum of philosophy, religion, ritualism and metaphysics in a concise manner. It assumes a Lord (Ish) of the universes who has the capacity to know everything infinitely, including everything that can be known about a character such as his/her thoughts, feelings, fears, desires etcetera.
The Ish Upanishad is also called the Ishavaasyoponishad. It derives this name from the first word of the first verse, which reads:
Isha vaasyam idamsarvam yatkinchha jagatyaam jagat.
Tena tyaktena bhunjitha ma gridaha kasya swiddhanam.
Swami A.C. Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada has very succinctly given the meaning of this verse as thus:
"Everything animate or inanimate that is within the universe is controlled and owned by the Lord. One should therefore accept only those things necessary for oneself, which are set aside as one's quota, and refrain from accepting other things, knowing full well to whom they truly belong."
In other words, "This universe is enveloped by the Lord". This explanation is what forms the gist of the Ish Upanishad.

Sri Isopanisad
The Isha Upanishad (Devanagari: ईशावास्य उपनिषद्,īśa upaniṣad, otherwise Ishopanishad īśopaniṣad or īśāvāsya upaniṣad) is one of the shortest of the Upanishads, consisting of 17 or 18 verses in total; like other core texts of the vedanta, it is considered revealed scripture (Śruti) by diverse traditions within Hinduism. The name of the text derives from the incipit, īśā, "by the Lord (Isha)". The Upanishad constitutes the final chapter (adhyāya) of the Shukla Yajurveda, but is historically one of the latest of the principal (mukhya) Upanishads, dating approximately to Mauryan times

Poornamadah
A peace invocation from the Isha Upanishad. The meaning of the hymn is
- That (pure consciousness) is full (perfect); this (the manifest universe of matter; of names and forms being maya) is full. This fullness has been projected from that fullness. When this fullness merges in that fullness, all that remains is fullness.

Upanishad 1-Isha
The Upanishads: are a collection of philosophical texts which form the theoretical basis for the Hindu religion. They are also known as Vedanta, the end of the Veda. In the purest sense, they are not Sruti (citation needed](revealed truths) but rather commentaries which explain the essence of the veda (revealed knowledge). The Upanishads are found mostly in the concluding part of the Brahmanas and in the Aranyakas. Wikipedia
Personally this was one of the most thought provoking works I have read so far. It was easiest to comprehend read by this lady Tess Morgan

Sri Upanishad: Short hymns - 1
This is a collection of short hymns from the Taittiriya (Shikshavalli & Anandavalli) and Isha Upanishads. Three audio tracks have been used from the Cd: Mantram - Chants of India, produced by George Harrison (one of The Beatles) and composed by Pandit Ravi Shankarji.
The chanters are Pandits from Benaras/ Varanasi/ Kashi and therefore use the traditional methods of chanting. The singers are Pandit Ravi Shankar's students.
The first track is the opening section of several Upanishads. This is a chant used by the teacher and the students for a better transfer of learning, to foster togetherness and the attitudes required for the successful transfer of such learning.
ॐ सह नाववतु |
सह नौ भुनक्तु |
सह वीर्यं करवावहै |
तेजस्विनावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै ||
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ||
oṃ saha nāvavatu
saha nau bhunaktu
saha vīryaṃ karavāvahai
tejasvināvadhītamastu mā vidviṣāvahai
oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ
OM Let both of us protect each other together. May both of us enjoy together. May both of us work together. Let our study become radiant, let there be no hatred between us. OM Peace, Peace, Peace.
The second track is from the Taittiriya Upanishad, with Shikshavalli and Anandavalli. To know more, click on: http://www.swami-krishnananda.org/books_3a.html
http://www.atmajyoti.org/up_taittiriya_upanishad_text.asp
The 11th Anuvaka of the Shikshavalli, T.U., is also used as a Convocation address at the Benaras Hindu University and contains the deeply philosophical, concise words: matr devobhavah pitr devobhavah acharya devobhavah atithi devobhavah. It contains the final words of the teacher to the student who is leaving to use the education in the world outside the teacher's courtyard/campus/sphere of influence. to know more, visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taittiriya_Upanishad
The 8th Anuvaka of Anandavalli, T. U., compares the 'ananda' (joy/bliss) of a young man who has all that he can aspire to and desire of worldly possessions such as wealth, fame, beautiful wives, children, etc. to a 'shrotya', one who has realised the real meaning of the Shruti (Vedas, including Upanishads). Visit: http://www.vedarahasya.net/ananda.htm
The last track is the opening invocation of the Brihadaranyaka and Isha Upanishads which, according to Mahatma Gandhiji, encompasses the entire Sanatana Dharma philosophy - nothing can ever deplete the Full. To know more, click on: http://www.swamij.com/upanishad-isha.htm or http://www.atmajyoti.org/up_isha_upanishad_text.asp
oṃ pūrṇamadaḥ pūrṇamidam pūrṇāt pūrṇamudacyate
pūrṇasya pūrṇamādāya pūrṇamevāvaśiṣyate
oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ
That is Absolute, This is Absolute, Absolute arises out of Absolute. If Absolute is taken away from Absolute, Absolute remains. OM Peace, Peace, Peace.
The visuals are random downloads from the web of some of those who have borne witness to the timeless truths of the words in the Upanishads, regardless of place, time, age, gender or any other discriminant. The persons in the pictures and photos are all too well-known to need naming. However, the names by which they are best known are given in the tags for this video, in the order of their appearance.
These truths are the real wealth and these persons, the real gems that Bharat can share with the world, without depletion of any kind. The Vedic way of life is a way of thinking, an inner journey, the birthright of and possible for each human being, so say the Upanishads. Evolution: East and West
Whoever sees all beings in the soul
and the soul in all beings
does not shrink away from this.
In whom all beings have become one with the knowing soul
what delusion or sorrow is there for the one who sees unity?
It has filled all.
It is radiant, incorporeal, invulnerable,
without tendons, pure, untouched by evil.
Wise, intelligent, encompassing, self-existent,
it organizes objects throughout eternity.
