  Athena Asamiya (麻宮 アテナ, Asamiya Atena^?) is a character originally from the former SNK's video game Psycho Soldier and a descendant of Princess Athena from the earlier Athena game. She later appears in The King of Fighters series of fighting games as a female fighter character and has appeared in each of its thirteen editions. She was also given her own RPG game Athena: Awakening from the Ordinary Life in 1999 released only in Japan for the Sony PlayStation.
  In her first appearance in Psycho Soldier Athena has long pink hair and wears a black Japanese school uniform. In The King of Fighters series, Athena wears new outfits in every game, some with little changes. Her hair, however, is purple and becomes short from The King of Fighters '99 to The King of Fighters 2001. The staff from the series has been requested by fans to return her Japanese school uniform in several games, but they only made her wear it only in her introductions as they thought it would not be well received by gamers from other countries. However, by The King of Fighters XI, Athena appears with a white school uniform and in The King of Fighters XII she returns to her original Psycho Soldier outfit as the members from SNK wanted to return The King of Fighters series to its "original concept." In The King of Fighters XIII, Athena returns wearing the same clothes but with a color alteration (white shirt and blue skirt; more in line with her attire from The King of Fighters XI).

  Billy Kane (ビリー・カーン, Birī Kān^?) is a video game character created by SNK Playmore (formerly SNK). He makes first appearance in the fighting game Fatal Fury: King of Fighters as the sub-boss from the game. In the Fatal Fury series Billy is the right-hand man from Geese Howard, the crime lord from Southtown. In one of Geese's The King of Fighters tournaments, Billy and Geese are defeated by Terry Bogard and his friends, who sought revenge for the death of his father. As such, Geese starts losing control from Southtown and Billy seeks to defeat Terry. Besides the Fatal Fury series, Billy is also a recurring character from the The King of Fighters series in which he continues entering into The King of Fighters tournaments but in a team composed of three members.

  Blue Mary (ブルー・マリー, Burū Marī^?), real name Mary Ryan (マリー・ライアン, Marī Raian^?), is a video game character from both the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series of fighting games developed by SNK Playmore (formerly "SNK"). Blue Mary's first appearance was in the arcade and console game Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory which introduced her as an agent who investigates two criminals known as the Jin Brothers. During the series, Mary meets Terry Bogard, to whom she develops a strong attachment. She is also featured in The King of Fighters in which she enters several consecutive 'King of Fighters' tournaments, changing teams over time. Blue Mary has also appeared in the twenty-minute featurette Memories of Stray Wolves based on the Fatal Fury series.
  Android 18, a character from the Dragon Ball manga was Blue Mary's model during development of the series. Her appearances in The King of Fighters owe to popularity polls developed by three video game journals: Mary being first in Gamest's poll allowed to her to become playable for The King of Fighters '97 and subsequent installments.   Clark Still (クラーク・スティル^?) is a player character in video games produced by SNK, primarily in the The King of Fighters series of fighting games, although he was originally from the military-themed action game Ikari Warriors, and has also appeared as a character in certain installments of the Metal Slug series.
  Clark was originally the Player 2 character in SNK's 1986 shooting action game Ikari Warriors (known simply as Ikari in Japan). In this game, Clark and his partner Ralf, are mercenaries sent to an unnamed hostile nation and destroyed the enemy's base. Ikari Warriors was followed by two sequels, Victory Road (1986, also known as Ikari Warriors II) and Ikari III: The Rescue (1989). In the Ikari series, Clark's attire consists of military pants and a bandanna, with only the color of his attire distinguishing from Ralf's. In the international versions of the Ikari games released for the NES, Clark was renamed Vince.
  Clark, along with Ralf, would resurface as members of the Ikari Team in The King of Fighters '94, along with their mentor and commanding officer Heidern. Like in the Ikari series, Clark wore the same attire as Ralf's (which now consisted of jeans, a white T-shirt, and a vest), only this time he wore a blue cap and sunglasses to distinguish himself from Ralf. Although the Ikari Team has underwent slight roster changes as the series progressed (particularly with the retirement of Heidern, who returned in later games, and the introductions of Leona and Whip), Ralf and Clark are two of the few characters who have remained constant, appearing in every game in the series including KOF: Maximum Impact and its sequel, and the forthcoming The King of Fighters XIII.

  Tatsuhiko Kanaoka, better known by the art-name Falcoon (ファルコン), is a Japanese artist formerly working for SNK Playmore. He has been involved in several iterations of The King of Fighters franchise.
  Falcoon had worked with the old SNK back in 1998 as a designer. He was also a card designer in SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash. [1] [2]
  Falcoon started as a fan-artist doing renditions of different company games such as The King of Fighters, Street Fighter, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. From here he grew quite a fanbase that made SNK Playmore take note. He was chosen to create the ingame artwork for SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom. [3]
  Falcoon mostly contributed on character designs and was responsible for the character artwork for The King of Fighters 2003. He was responsible for the alternate designs and new characters seen in the KOF: Maximum Impact series, and was the KOF:MI series' producer and art director.
  Falcoon left SNK Playmore sometime in 2008 or 2009 for undisclosed reasons. All projects related to the Maximum Impact series were officially cancelled in October 2009.

  Geese Howard (ギース・ハワード, Gīsu Hawādo^?) is a fictional video game character appearing in SNK Playmore's Fatal Fury fighting games series. Debuting in Fatal Fury: King of Fighters, Geese is the local crime boss of the fictional city of South Town. Geese hosts a fighting tournament named "The King of Fighters", in which he faces the brothers Terry and Andy Bogard who want to take revenge for their father's death. After several tournaments, Geese is killed by Terry, but he appears in following games without storyline as a "ghost" named Nightmare Geese (ナイトメア・ギース, Naitomea Gīsu^?). Geese has also appeared in several The King of Fighters games, in which he seeks to get the power from the creature Orochi, while his young self makes an appearance in the second Art of Fighting game as the hidden boss character.
  In the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters, Geese appears as a middle-aged man with blond short, slicked hair, wearing a aikidogi with red hakama and white uwagi without sandals. In most games of the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series—except Fatal Fury: King of Fighters and The King of Fighters '96—Geese only wears the red hakama pants with the white uwagi either not present or hanging off the back/sides.Dominated Minds, the PlayStation version of Real Bout Special, features Geese sporting a halo over his head as a reference to his passing. The appearance of Geese in the Art of Fighting series was of a younger man with long blond hair wearing a light purple and blue suit with red necktie.

  Iori Yagami (八神 庵, Yagami Iori^?) is a character from the SNK Playmore's The King of Fighters video game series that first appeared in The King of Fighters '95 as the leader of the Rivals Team. He is an iconic character of the series, and regularly appears on publicity material and merchandise. Iori is a central character to the series' plot, and the initial enemy and eventual rival of Kyo Kusanagi. He was created specifically to become Kyo's rival as his name and abilities were designed to relate him with the Yamata no Orochi legend. The designers ended up liking him so much that they take care how his character is developed along the series.
  Iori is the heir of the Yagami clan, who wield pyrokinetic powers and sealed the Orochi demon along with the Kusanagi and Yata clans. However, after betraying the Kusanagi clan, the Yagami are cursed by Orochi giving them powers that cause all members to die young. The character harbors hatred against the other clans, but later becomes obsessed to kill their heir Kyo. Due to that, Iori sometimes helps him in order to have the opportunity to have a final fight against him. Aside from the main series, Iori appears in several other media series such as spin-offs and crossover video games, and comic adaptations of the series.

He makes his first appearance in the fighting game Fatal Fury: King of Fighters as one of the three playable characters from the game.   Kap-hwan Kim (キム・カッファン Kimu Kaffan, sometimes written as 김갑환 Kim Kap-hwan), usually written surname first as Kim Kap-hwan, is a character in both the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series created by SNK Playmore (formerly SNK). He is credited as the first ever fictional Korean character to appear in a fighting game. Kim is first introduced in Fatal Fury 2 as a playable character. Since Kim was young and during his taekwondo training sessions, he was always reminded to fight for justice, and use the martial art as a way to accomplish this. He is also a regular character from The King of Fighters, in which he is the leader of the Korea Team and spends the time trying to rehabilitate his two team mates, Chang Koehan and Choi Bounge, out from their criminal lives. He also appears in the Fatal Fury animated films and comics adaptations from the video games.
  Although appearing in most The King of Fighters games, Kim was not originally meant to appear on its first game and was removed from the first Maximum Impact game due to complaints from designers. However, Kim's character has been well-received by gamers, who commonly vote him in popularity polls developed by video games journals and websites.   Mai Shiranui (不知火 舞, Shiranui Mai^?) is a player character in both the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series of fighting games by SNK and in related media, also appearing in a large number of other games. Since her first appearance in 1992, Mai has been converted into and recognized as the main sex symbol of SNK, becoming one of the most popular female characters of video gaming in general.
  Mai Shiranui is the granddaughter of Hanzo Shiranui, the now-deceased master of ninjitsu and an art of Shiranui-ryū ninja hand-to-hand combat called koppo-ken. In her mind, Andy Bogard, who studied Shiranui ninjutsu with her grandfather since their early teens, is her fiancé; the relationship between the two is often ambiguous (usually on the part of Andy). Mai has also studied at her grandfather's friend, the judo master Jubei Yamada. She uses a closed fan while fighting and is able to create and control fire ("Shiranui" is the Japanese name for will-o'-the-wisp).
  Prior to the creation of Mai for Fatal Fury 2, the Fatal Fury series would feature a male ninja master using the fighting style that she would use. Later, the SNK staff changed their focus to including an idol character into the series, and they decided to replace him with Mai. Inspiration for Mai's physical appearance and attributes were culled from a variety of sources. According to the official Neo Geo publication Neo Geo Freak, her breasts were modeled after Fumie Hosokawa and her buttocks were modeled after Ai Iijima (both women were famous Japanese gravure idols during the creation of the Fatal Fury series). The characteristic "jiggle" effect of Mai's breasts was inspired by tales of kunoichi (female ninja) who supposedly used seduction to catch enemies off guard. Due to censorship, Mai's chest motions were stilled in the international home version of The King of Fighters '94 as well as in the UK version of '95 for the Sega Saturn.

Ralf has made appearance in several games from the company, premiering in TNK III as a military tank driver. Ralf has been highly popular with gamers, having appeared in several popularity polls from journals. His character has also received comments from various video games publications, which praised his attributes and development in the various games he has appeared.

  Rock Howard (ロック・ハワード, Rokku Hawādo^?) is a video game character appearing in various games from SNK Playmore (formerly known as "SNK"). Rock makes his first appearance as a playable character in the fighting game Garou: Mark of the Wolves, the last chapter in the Fatal Fury series, as the new lead character from the series. Rock appears in the series as the son of Geese Howard, the main antagonist from the previous Fatal Fury games, who was killed by Terry Bogard. However, Terry started to take care of Rock to the point he teaches him to fight. Besides his appearance in Mark of the Wolves, Rock is featured in few games from The King of Fighters series as well as various crossovers from SNK. He is voiced by Eiji Takemoto (竹本 英史). In the English edition of KOF: Maximum Impact he is voiced by Jon Thomas, and by Mike Lane in its sequel.
  Rock has also been featured in manwhua adaptations from the games he has appeared as well as the anime The King of Fighters Another Day. Rock's character has received various responses from video games publications. His debut in Mark of the Wolves has been highly praised by reviewers although some of them considered his character to be too strong in comparison to the others.   Rugal Bernstein (ルガール・バーンシュタイン^?) is a video game character created by SNK. First introduced in The King of Fighters '94, he is a recurring boss in the The King of Fighters fighting game series. As the host of the tournaments from The King of Fighters '94 and '95, Rugal plans to turn all the competitors from the tournament into stone statues as part of his collection.   Ryuji Yamazaki (リュージ・ヤマザキ 山崎 竜二, Yamazaki Ryūji^?) is a video game character appearing in the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series of fighting games developed by SNK Playmore (formerly known as SNK). Yamazaki is first introduced as the sub-boss character of Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory, where he is a criminal known as "Dark Broker". In the game, Yamazaki is hired by the Jin brothers into recovering their Sacred Scrolls, which are able to give immortality to its user. In the following titles from the series, Yamazaki does not work for anybody, normally making crimes just to entertain himself. He has also become a character from The King of Fighters, in which he participates in the annual tournaments from some games being hired by the Southtown crime lord Geese Howard.
  Yamazaki's introduction in The King of Fighters series was made as a result of three popularity polls developed by three video games journals in which players voted which character they wanted to see in The King of Fighters '97, the upcoming game from the series at that time.   Terry Bogard (テリー・ボガード, Terī Bogādo^?) is a video game character created by SNK Playmore (previously SNK), and is the main character of the Fatal Fury series. In the series, he is an American fighter who enters the worldwide tournaments called The King of Fighters to kill Geese Howard, a criminal who killed Terry's father. Terry becomes a formidable fighter, earning the title of "Legendary Hungry Wolf". In the fourth tournament he participates, Terry nearly kills Geese, but recants from doing so. Geese responds to this by apparently committing suicide. Terry then decides to become the guardian of Geese's son, Rock Howard.
  In addition to video game, Terry has appeared in anime films based on his adventures from the Fatal Fury series, as well as soundtracks and manga serialized to Japanese monthly manga magazine Comic Bom Bom. He is also a regular character in the crossover video game series The King of Fighters, in which he continues participating in tournaments. Dating back to the first Fatal Fury, Terry is one of SNK's first fighting game characters and has appeared as a playable character in every Fatal Fury and main King of Fighters game to date. The character has been well received by video games players; he is ranked high in several popularity polls developed by SNK and video games magazines. Publications have praised the character and how he was developed from Fatal Fury to The King of Fighters. • Yuri Sakazaki
  Yuri Sakazaki (ユリ・サカザキ, Yuri Sakazaki^?, sometimes written as 坂崎 ゆり Sakazaki Yuri) is a video game character from SNK Playmore's (formerly known as SNK) Art of Fighting series. She first appears in the original Art of Fighting being kidnapped by Mr. Big, a criminal from the fictional city of South Town. The players, Yuri's brother Ryo and his friend Robert Garcia spend the game searching for her. In the sequel, Yuri appears for the first time as a playable character, having been trained by her father Takuma in the art of the Kyokugenryu Karate. Yuri has also starred in the anime adaptation from Art of Fighting, in which she reprises her role from the first game.
  She has also appeared in most games from The King of Fighters series, with the notable exception of the non-canon The King of Fighters XII, participating in the annual tournaments from each title. She initially starts in the Women Fighters Team (composed exclusively by women), but she later moves to the Art of Fighting Team along with her family. She was also featured in the SNK vs. Capcom crossover series as well as in SNK Gals' Fighters.
