Afghan security forces supported by NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) troops recaptured a town in western Afghanistan on Tuesday that briefly fell to Taliban militants, according to government officials.
"Fortunately, at 05:30 today, in a joint military operation by Afghan and NATO forces, we were able to recapture Bakwa district," said Interior Ministry spokesman, Zemarai Bashari.
"The security situation is under control. There is not any problem." Bashari added.
About 200 Afghan police and soldiers moved into the remote town of Bakwa in Farah province early on Tuesday morning, and recaptured the town at 0530 local time (0100 GMT).
The town lies about 65 kilometres from Helmand, the hub of Afghanistan's world-leading illicit opium and heroin industry.
It was the second town to have fallen into the hands of Taliban militants this month.
The governor of the province said Afghan army troops would stay with police in Bakwa for 10 to 15 days to consolidate their control.
Meanwhile, a suicide attacker blew himself up at the opening ceremony of a hospital in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, wounding at least two NATO soldiers and a health worker.
"During the opening ceremony the suicide attacker was trying to enter to the hospital to detonate himself. Afghan and international forces which were present there recognised the bomber and tried to stop him but he detonated himself," said Bashari.
Three people were wounded in the attack but the Interior Ministry would not identify them, or say what their nationalities were.

STORYLINE:
Kidnappers released a German man and his translator on Thursday, a week after they were seized in western Afghanistan, the Interior Ministry said.
The two men were in good health and looked after at the office of the police chief in Delaram district of Farah province, said Zemrai Bashary, a ministry spokesman.
Bashary attributed the release to "hard work of the police" but provided no further details.
"They are safe and secure," Bashary told reporters in the capital, "and later on the decision will be taken whether they will be brought to Kabul."
The men were released hours after the kidnappers, using tribal elders as intermediaries, demanded 40,000 dollars for freeing them.
It was not immediately clear if any money had changed hands.
The German, believed to work for a company that builds roads, and his Afghan translator went missing in Farah a week ago.
Farah Governor Muhaidin Baluch said the pair, whose names have not been released, were kidnapped in the province's Bakwa district, near the Delaram district where they were last seen.

STORYLINE:
Afghan troops shot a suicide bomber on Tuesday, after he tried to enter an Afghan army recruitment centre in Helmand province, police said.
Troops standing guard opened fire on the bomber, who had explosives hidden beneath his clothes, after he tried to enter the recruitment centre in the provincial capital Lashkar Gah and failed to heed their warnings to stop.
Wounded, the bomber detonated the explosives, but was too far away to harm anyone seriously, according to the province's deputy police chief.
"This suicide bomber wanted to come close to us, but we gave him the signal not to. He did not stop. Our soldiers stopped him and shot him. Wounded, he detonated his bomb. He died, no-one else was hurt," said one eyewitness.
In what police said was a related attack, a roadside bomb went off just after a convoy of NATO vehicles had passed in the town, wounding two Afghan civilians, police said.
No NATO vehicles were damaged in the explosion.
NATO-led troops last week launched their largest offensive yet in the northern part of Helmand, a stronghold for Taliban insurgents who have stepped up attacks over the past year and are threatening a fresh offensive this spring.
Helmand is the world's biggest producer of opium, and a new United Nations drug assessment indicates that this year's poppy harvest could be higher than last year's record output.
The UN says Taliban fighters protect poppy farmers and tax the crop, deriving much-needed income for their insurgency.
The government has stepped up its poppy eradication efforts this year, angering some farmers and others who profit from the narcotics.
In other violence, a suicide bomber detonated his bomb, in the town of Waish, about 500 meters (yards) inside Afghanistan's Kandahar province, killing three civilians and wounding eight others, police said.
Tuesday's violence also follows a roadside attack in Bakwa district of neighbouring Farah province on Monday that killed nine policemen, including a local commander.
The district briefly fell out of government control last month, but security forces have since moved back in.

2. SOUNDBITE: (English) Army Colonel Martin Schweitzer (speaking via satellite link from Afghanistan):
"There are increased, some moderate increases, in small attacks and some catastrophic kind of events that they are trying to create. But we knew that would come with the good weather. Frankly, we're pretty convinced that the type of suicide attacks that have occurred are absolutely un-Afghanistan. I mean Afghans don't do that. That's a real indicator to us and to the Afghan formations of the amount of desperation that the Taliban currently is incurring. They did not want to go to the suicide. They're trying to get to the hearts and minds of the people as well. And they're losing it when they start murdering the civilians, when they start murdering the kids. So I guess that's how I'd answer it. No, we don't think this is an effective offensive. I kind of hope it is because if that's as good as they've got we're in pretty good shape, and the Afghan security forces are going to get to develop their capacity over time, without being interrupted by this threat."

STORYLINE:
After a winter lull in violence in Afghanistan, local, NATO and US-led forces have stepped up operations in recent weeks, hoping to pre-empt a feared spring offensive by militants that threatened the already shaky grip of President Hamid Karzai's government.
The latest developments were relayed to a news conference at the Pentagon by US Army Colonel Martin Schweitzer, speaking by satellite link from Afghanistan.
Afghan police and coalition forces reportedly launched an overnight operation late on Monday in Bakwa district in Farah province, western Afghanistan, in an effort to curtail any organised uprising.
They clashed early on Tuesday with the Taliban, leaving two suspected militants dead and four people wounded.
Schweitzer indicated that to date the expected spring offensive by the Taliban in Afghanistan has been somewhat muted and that attacks have been minimal.
He said that meant that Afghan security forces would "get to develop their capacity over time, without being interrupted by this threat."
Schweitzer said that the Taliban must now be desperate because they were resorting to suicide bombings, and he claimed they were losing their effort to win the hearts and minds of the Afghan people.
"They're trying to get to the hearts and minds of the people as well. And they're losing it when they start murdering the civilians, when they start murdering the kids," he said.

Wife suddenly said that she wanted to try making home-made bak kwa. She got a recipe from the Internet.
The whole process was not difficult. Got to marinate the minced pork. Then grill.
The taste was decent. Not as flavourful as the commercially available ones because the pork we used didn't have so much fat and also we did not put in a lot of sugar, honey and other sweet stuff.
