Alexander the Great has arrived in Egypt and has decided that a new city should be founded, one he hopes will become the capital of his empire. You have quite a lot of time to build the city and there are a huge number of places in which you can build. However, this mission is timed so there is a limit to how long you can take to build the city. I recommend building near the meadow area that is close to the port. There is a flood plain here but it's small and you are actually more likely to get a bigger crop from meadow farming (overproduce on grain). The map will start with a trade route already open to distant Byblos. The city sells Fish, Linen, Lux. Goods, Wood and Oil. Import whatever you can from them (particularly Wood) because this trade route closes down after an invasion. Sell as much papyrus as possible to them as well. Some more trade cities will open as the mission progresses, but you will need to establish lucrative trade routes early as funding is tight for all the preparation you need to do. There are a couple of cities you don't need to waste time opening however, so don't open too made routes as many trading cities are water based. It won't be long until the Phoenician's come to attack. They always attack by sea, but keep some land companies around as you will need to defend Serabit Khadim from time to time. Your land troops will help a lot in the next mission as well... Don't be frightened to learn that you are unable to import sandstone immediately to build the Mausoleum. After a few years, trade with On and Bahariya Oasis become available allowing you to import Sandstone. If you fulfil the needs of your fellow Egyptian's, it will also result in gifts of sandstone. Do not build the Mausoleum in an awkward place: if you play this mission in the campaign, then it will carry over and you could end up making later missions harder! There are multiple exports available in this mission, including Beer, Papyrus, Weapons, Luxury Goods and Linen. Beer and Papyrus are available locally but to make Weapons, Luxury Goods and Linen, you will have to open trade routes to procure Copper, Gems and Flax. Some goods in the mission are redundant and you won't need to bother importing them for any reason, such as Oil. Once trade cities open allowing the importation of sandstone, get importing it right away. As said previously, this mission is timed and you don't want to be rushing to build the Mausoleum in the final few months! Once the monument is built, you should be closing in on many of your other objectives. Don't bother with manor housing here but you can easily get them due to the huge number of trade cities available, however the manor housing is limited to only Spacious Manor as a result of only Ra and Ptah being worshipped here. Once the mission is complete, you will have created a fine city and it will grow even more in the next mission!
