Karl Rove Responds To Tea Party Criticism: We Need Conservatives Who Can Actually Win Races
2/5/13 - Karl Rove appeared on Sean Hannity's show tonight to defend himself against conservative criticisms of his new PAC intended to help moderate Republicans against tea party challengers in primary races. Radio host Mark Levin went so far as to accuse Rove of stabbing conservatives in the back. Rove made it clear he still wants conservative candidates to back, he just wants ones who can actually win races. Hannity first explained the main goal of Conservative Victory Project: keeping more Todd Akins from becoming nominees for safe seats and ultimately losing general elections. Rove quickly clarified that he is not going to be in the business of defending incumbents, but merely making sure the Republican party nominates candidates who can actually win races. He also defended his previous support of Tea Party candidates in 2010 and 2012.
Hannity brought up the criticism that sometimes the Republican party ends up with establishment Republicans who no one is happy with. Rove insisted he just wants "the most conservative candidate who can win," not just the incumbent candidate. He insisted that his group would have, for example, backed Marco Rubio in 2010. Hannity explained his main concern is that he doesn't want anyone within the Republican party doing anything to divide it.
Rove stuck by his message, saying that the Republican party needs to do better than Todd Akin if it wants to retake the Senate.

Karl Rove Causes Fox News Chaos By Challenging Obama Victory Projection
After Fox News called the election in favor of President Barack Obama, Fox contributor Karl Rove challenged their decision to give Ohio to the president, causing chaos on-air as hosts Bret Baier and Megyn Kelly scrambled to refute Rove's reluctance to believe the Fox News "decision desk's" call in favor of Obama.
"We have got to be careful about calling things when we have like 991 votes separating the two candidates and a quarter of the vote yet to count," Rove warned the Fox anchors, much to their dismay. "Even if they have made it on the basis of select precincts, I would be very careful about intruding in this process."
After a brief pause, Baier, Kelly and Chris Wallace joked about how "awkward" Rove has just made the entire situation, with Baier deadpanning: "It's great to have you guys here."

Hannity. Karl Rove: GOP Groups More Concerned With Profits Than Advancing The Cause
Karl Rove has become the enemy du jour for conservatives these days after starting a new group aimed at weeding out unelectable conservative candidates from Republican primary races. The most recent attack against Rove was a Tea Party group Photoshopping him as a Nazi. Rove stopped by Sean Hannity's show tonight to continue defending himself, and ended up pointing fingers at other conservative organizations where the people in charge are more interested in "fees and profits" than actually "advancing the cause."
RELATED: Karl Rove Responds To Tea Party Criticism: We Need Conservatives Who Can Actually Win Races
Hannity brought up a contentious back-and-forth between Rove and Bob Woodward on Fox News Sunday, as well as Newt Gingrich piling on the criticism of Rove. Hannity first asked Rove about the Nazi comparison, which Rove simply dismissed as a lack of "adult supervision" on the part of the group that distributed it.
Rove found it interesting that there was more attention given to the Nazi attack than Woodward claiming Rove is trying to create a "politburo." He slammed Woodward for having the nerve to suggest he should get out of politics, and the media for not giving that much coverage to Woodward as opposed to the Nazi attack because "they love the idea of conservatives kicking other conservatives."
Hannity said his hope for 2014 is that the Tea Party becomes re-energized, asking Rove if what's happening within the Republican party is just a natural response to losing an election. Rove acknowledged that there are too many conservative groups
"We do have a problem on the right. We have too many organizations that are run by consultants who are more concerned with their fees and profits than they are with advancing the cause."
Rove argued that donors to his group should have the right to be more involved in primaries to make sure their side ultimately takes the seat in question, because if they're going to put so much money into these races, they don't want to end up coming up short because the Republican nominee they ended up with is just too out there to win.

Karl Rove Questions Ohio Call for Obama, Electoral Victory
Speaking with Chris Wallace, Karl Rove questioned Ohio being called for President Barack Obama, a call which put the president over 270 electoral votes and lead Fox News to declare him the winner. Rove cautioned calling the state based on a difference of just over 900 votes with 25% of the Ohio vote remaining to be called.

Karl Rove Dismisses Tea Party Backlash: We Need Fewer Christine O'Donnells And More Rand Pauls
Through his new Conservative Victory Project, aimed at backing conservative candidates who will actually win elections, Karl Rove has upset some conservatives and Tea Partiers. This weekend, he paid a visit to Fox News Sunday, where Wallace confronted him with some of that backlash.
Rove said his favorite reaction was that of Mark Levin, who called him "queen for a day." They did spent $30 million on Tea Party candidates, Rove said, specifically citing Sen. Rand Paul

GOP Cat Fight! Newt vs. Karl Rove
"Newt Gingrich is not pleased with Karl Rove's latest strategy for the Republican Party.
In an op-ed published by conservative magazine Human Events on Wednesday, the former House speaker and Republican presidential candidate spoke out against the Rove-backed Conservative Victory Project, an offshoot of Rove's American Crossroads super PAC that aims to block fringe candidates from winning GOP congressional primaries."*
It's establishment Republicans vs. Tea Partiers. Newt Gingrich is back, trying to pick up the Tea Party base by taking shots at Karl Rove and his method. Is he still upset with Mitt Romney getting GOP backing in the 2012 elections? How is Gingrich not "establishment?" Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

Rove: President Succeeded by Suppressing the Vote
Karl Rove was back on Fox again this Thursday, still making excuses for blowing through all of those billionaires' money and with a major dose of projection when it comes to which party believes in voter suppression -- Karl Rove: Obama Won 'By Suppressing The Vote' :
Mitt Romney lost the election because President Barack Obama engaged in voter suppression, according to Republican political strategist Karl Rove.
"He succeeded by suppressing the vote," Rove said in an interview on Fox News with anchor Megyn Kelly on Thursday afternoon, "by saying to people, 'You may not like who I am and I know you can't bring yourself to vote for me, but I'm going to paint this other guy as simply a rich guy who only cares about himself.'"
Rove didn't actually give any examples of ways in which Obama made it harder for people to exercise their constitutional right at the polls -- things like voter ID laws, which have been pushed by GOP legislatures around the country. In fact, Obama specifically said in his victory speech that it was unfair that people had to wait in line for hours to vote, which occurred in part because Republicans reduced the time period for early voting.
Rove did say that Obama had aired attack ads and painted Romney as out-of-touch with the concerns of ordinary voters, but these are fairly common tactics in politics, and Rove is certainly no stranger to them.
"Fifty-three percent in the exit polls said on Election Day that Mitt Romney's policies would only help the rich. And they voted for Obama by a 9 to 1 margin," added Rove. "Of the 21 percent of the electorate who said that the most important characteristic in a president was that he cares about people like me, they voted for President Obama by almost a 9 to 1 margin. They effectively denigrated Mitt Romney's character, business acumen, business experience and made him unworthy."
Kelly then pointed out that whoever runs in 2016 on the Democratic ticket is not likely to go any easier on Republicans. Rove replied that the GOP needed to be quicker to responding to attacks, saying the Romney campaign did not do so effectively enough.
"The first group to respond to the attacks on Bain Capital was not the Romney campaign, it was American Crossroads with an ad in July. We don't do defense all that well," said Rove, saying it was sometimes more effective to have the candidate appear in an ad and respond directly to the charges being leveled.
Someone needs to explain the difference to Turdblossom between voter suppression and running a good campaign.

Karl Rove Loses It On Fox News Election Night
"Fox News had what can only be described as an insane argument with itself over whether or not President Obama had won Ohio, and the presidency.
The network seemed quite confident in its projections at first, but suddenly, pundit Karl Rove — who, as leader of a huge conservative Super PAC has something of an interest in the outcome of the race — began to pour cold water on the call.
Fox News' Chris Wallace then said that Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign is contesting the network's decision to call President Obama's re-election.
Rove said it was "premature" and "early" to make any real decisions.
"So, maybe not so fast, folks!" Wallace said. There was a pained silence.
"Uh, thank you!" Bret Baier said. "That's awkward," Megyn Kelly added."*
Cenk Uygur breaks down why it might not be great to have a Super PAC owner as a political analyst and the embarrassing way he acted and Fox News responded on air.
