My new juvenile Savannah Monitor
- Duration: 2:48
- Updated: 09 Jul 2009
These large, aggressive lizards are native to the deserts and plains of Africa. The Savannah Monitor in the wild will eat insects, small mammals, other lizards, and eggs. They are mainly terrestrial, but can climb and swim. They are excellent hunters, with the ability to corner their prey. It has been said that they have mammal-like intelligence. They can be tamed, but require much human socialization. They can live for a decade or more, and can reach lengths of 4 feet, and weights up to 20 lbs, though the average is 10-15 pounds.
I'm going to tentatively name mine Spot.
