When Mark Twain visited #Montreal in the 19th century, he was so taken by its many churches that he nicknamed it “The City of 100 Bell Towers.” Marvel at the imposing stone façade of Christ Church Cathedral, or stand beneath the great arched ceiling of the beautiful Notre Dame Basilica.
If you’re a foodie, you’re in luck, because the residents of Montreal adore a good meal, whether it’s poutine from a street-side bistro or fresh produce from the farmers market.
A #tour of Montreal will take you across cobblestone streets, through architecture that dates back to the 1600s, and to its wonderful its numerous green spaces. 🇯🇴 CRUSADER KERAK CASTLE, JORDAN: One of the Largest Crusader Castles in the World
In this 50+ minute video, I explored the Crusaders'
palace, many creepy dark dungeons, chapels, underground passageways, vaulted stone hallways, soldiers' barracks, horses' stables, and underground prison cells. Montfort: the Historic Crusader Castle in Northern Israel
HOLY LAND UNCOVERED | The crusaders left their mark on the Holy Land with several sites demonstrating their affluence. Look no further than Montfort, which sits atop the rolling hills of northern Israel and serves as a memory of their efforts to conquer the territory from Muslim hands.
Story:

The history of the place goes back even further.
The Talmud talks about a castle called 'Katzrah de Galeel' — Castle of the Galilee in Hebrew. It once stood just south of where Montfort ...

WOAHHH! I am so impressed by what I experienced today in Syria!
Welcome to the Krak des Chevaliers -- it's considered as the world's most preserved medieval castle that sits in the South Western region of the country near Homs.
It was built almost exactly 1,000 years ago, and despite being damaged a few years ago in the Syrian Civil War, it remains remarkably in tact. It was a pleasure to explore the ins and outs of this castle today -- I was the only tourist here!
The historical landmarks are just one of the MANY reasons why I have fallen in love with this Middle Eastern country. Stay tuned for my last video in Syria tomorrow -- I saved the best for last!

HOLY LAND UNCOVERED | The crusaders left their mark on the Holy Land with several sites demonstrating their affluence. Look no further than Montfort, which sits atop the rolling hills of northern Israel and serves as a memory of their efforts to conquer the territory from Muslim hands.
Story:
The Crusader era fuels the imaginations of many. It was a time of knights and kings, castles and battles in the Holy Land. One place in particular tells us not only the story of this peculiar period, but also some anecdotes regarding the internal conflicts of the Jerusalem Kingdom in the 11th and 12th century CE. The history of the place goes back even further.
The Talmud talks about a castle called 'Katzrah de Galeel' — Castle of the Galilee in Hebrew. It once stood just south of where Montfort is, and from this old castle's stones, the newer Montfort was built.
The Montfort castle was established by the Milly family – a French family who ruled the area now known as the Western Galilee. In 1187, following the expedition of Saladin in the area, the castle fell into the hands of Arab forces and, in 1192, the Crusaders recaptured the castle, and later it was sold to the Teutonic Knights order.
Research shows that the Montfort’s main purpose was not to protect the Teutonic knights from other orders who ruled the Holy Land. It was used mainly as an administrative headquarter and had no military significance. A tour of the site teaches us more about the Teutonic order.
Early research suggested that the Monfort was built in a rush, but Dr. Adrian Boas of Haifa University recently discovered a new hall which suggests that the knights who lived here had comparatively luxurious lives.
Crusader domination at the site was short-lived. The downfall came in the late 13th century following the attack of the Mamluks headed by their king Baybars.
Until Baybars manages to bring down. That’s how we know a lot about them today. For years, this place stood deserted and neglected, but more recently research here has been growing. This place gives us a rare glimpse into magical times, a significant chapter in the history of the holy land.

Jordan is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and the east, Iraq to the north-east, Syria to the north and Israel and the Palestinian West Bank to the west. The Dead Sea is located along its western borders and the country has a 26-kilometre (16 mi) coastline on the Red Sea in its extreme south-west. Jordan is strategically located at the crossroads of Asia, Africa and Europe. The capital, Amman, is Jordan's most populous city as well as the country's economic, political and cultural centre.

History of the place:
Montfort (Hebrew: מבצר מונפור, Mivtzar Monfor; Arabic: Qal'at al-Qurain or Qal'at al-Qarn - "Castle of the Little Horn" or "Castle of the Horn") is a ruined Crusader castle in the Upper Galilee region in northern Israel, about 22 miles (35 km) northeast of the city of Haifa and 10 miles (16 km) south of the border with Lebanon.
The site is now a national park inside the Nahal Kziv nature reserve, and is an important tourist destination attracting many visitors from inside and outside Israel.
Montfort was the principal castle in the Holy Land of the monastic military Teutonic Order, which was founded in the late 12th century in the port city of Acre. The castle is built on a narrow and steep cliff above the southern bank of Nahal Kziv in the Upper Galilee region, about 8 mi (13 km) northeast of the city of Nahariya. Unlike many other Crusader castles in the Holy Land, this castle was not originally built for military purposes, but was built to move some of the order's administration, such as the archives and treasury, from Acre to a more isolated location. The Teutonic Order had at the time come under pressure from the Templars and the Hospitallers in Acre, who had designs of taking it over.[5]
Soon after the Crusaders conquered the Holy Land from the Muslims in 1099 during the First Crusade, European settlers began to populate the land. The noble French de Milly family received the estate and began to cultivate the land, turning it into a farming estate. In 1187 Muslims under the leadership of Saladin managed to defeat the Crusaders and take over Jerusalem following the Battle of Hattin. Along with Jerusalem, the property which was to be the Montfort castle became a Muslim possession as well. The Muslims, just like their Crusader predecessors, did not find the property particularly significant. The farmland lacked strategic importance because it was situated inland, above a stream, far away from any border or main road.
Saladin's victory triggered the Third Crusade (1189-1192). Led by King Richard I of England, the Third Crusade ended with a substantial Crusader victory. Nonetheless, the territories of the Kingdom of Jerusalem were much smaller in size than those from before Saladin's reconquests. Jerusalem and most of the central Judea and Samaria mountains remained under Muslim control, and the Crusaders ruled mainly in the coastal plain and the Galilee. As the Crusaders set their new capital in Acre, the significance of the Montfort estate increased, due to the proximity of the property to the new capital (8 mi). Although the de Milly family received back the territory after its recapture during the Third Crusade, they sold it to the Teutonic Knights in 1220. The German knights began to renovate the buildings of the estate and, following internal conflicts between themselves and the Knights Templar and Knights Hospitaller, it was imperative for the Teutonic Knights to leave Acre for a separate headquarters, and the property (on which the Montfort was soon to be built) was a natural choice.
