Christopher Howard Long (born March 28, 1985) is an American football defensive end for the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Rams second overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. He played college football at Virginia.

Early years[link]

Long was born in Santa Monica, California. He attended St. Anne's-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Virginia.^[1] As a senior in 2003 he was in on 91 tackles, 23 tackles for a loss, and 15 sacks helping his team to an undefeated record and the state private-school championship. “He was a big gangly kid who had yet to grow into his body,” said John Blake, the St. Anne’s-Belfield coach. “But he jumped in with both feet. When he played tackle, he would drive kids 10 or 15 yards down the field, like he was steering a car.”^[2]

Long had the rare distinction of having his jersey retired at St. Anne's-Belfield School.^[1] He was given a 4-star ranking for college recruiting from Rivals.com, a service that rated him the sixth-best defensive end in the prep ranks.^[3] He played in the 2004 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.^[1]

Long also played basketball, lacrosse, and baseball in high school.^[4] In addition to being Howie Long's son, he is also the great-nephew of deceased director Irvin Kershner.

Long enrolled at the University of Virginia in 2004 and sought a degree in sociology.^[1] He was a backup on the defensive line, but missed five games due to mononucleosis. Long ended the season with five tackles (two for a loss) and a sack.

As a sophomore in 2005, Long averaged 3.8 tackles per game, leading all Virginia defensive linemen. He totaled 46 tackles, with 10 tackles for a loss and 2 sacks. His 26 quarterback pressures led his team. He also shared the team lead in pass break-ups with seven.

In 2006, Long earned second-team All-ACC honors and was voted team captain. While starting all games, Long recorded 57 tackles, 12 for a loss, and 4 sacks. His 4.8 tackles per game was fourth among ACC defensive lineman. He was also a finalist for the Dudley Award, for the most outstanding player in the Commonwealth of Virginia and was an All-State selection.

Following his 2007 senior season, Long was selected as a consensus First-team All-American.^[5] His 14 sacks were third in the country with an average of 1.13 sacks per game. Long was fourth nationally in tackling by a defensive lineman, averaging 6.3 tackles per game.^[1] In addition, North Carolina head coach Butch Davis, who coached against Long in North Carolina's ACC match-ups with Virginia, called Long one of the premier defensive linemen in the country.^[6]

Long entered the 2007 season on the watch lists for the Outland Trophy, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Bednarik Trophy, Lombardi Trophy, Hendricks Award and the Lott Trophy.^[1] He finished the season as a finalist for the Lombardi, Lott, and Nagurski Trophies. On December 5, 2007, Long won the 2007 Ted Hendricks Award, given to the top defensive end in the nation. Long garnered more than 60 percent of the votes, the most ever for a winner in the history of the award.^[7] Additionally, Long received a first-place vote and finished 10th in the 2007 Heisman Trophy voting.^[8]

On November 24, 2007, Long's #91 jersey was retired at UVA, making him the first player to have his jersey retired while he was still active.^[9]

St. Louis Rams[link]

Long^[14] was drafted by the St. Louis Rams second overall in the 2008 NFL Draft.^[15] The selection made him just the second son of a Hall of Famer, after Kellen Winslow II, to be drafted in the first round, the fifth such player ever drafted, and one of two such players drafted in 2008 (the other being Matthew Slater).^[16]

Following the draft, Rams head coach Scott Linehan named Long a presumptive starter on defense, a notion that Long rejected and instead felt he needed to earn.^[17] The Rams also announced their plans on using Long as both a linebacker and defensive end to showcase his athleticism;^[18] Long considered such versatility one of his best assets.^[19]

On July 19, 2008, Long agreed to terms on a six-year $56.5 million contract with the Rams with $29 million guaranteed.^[20][21]

On September 14, 2008, Long recorded his first career sack against Eli Manning of the New York Giants. He recorded his first 2-sack games versus the New England Patriots on October 26, 2008. At the end of his 2008 rookie season he was voted All-Rookie by the Pro Football Writers Association and Sporting News.^[22] Long started 16 games (14 at right DE and 2 at left DE) for the Rams in 2008, recording 4 sacks and leading the team in quarterback pressures, with a high of two sacks against the New England Patriots.

In 2009, Long again played both left and right defensive end for the Rams and ended the season with 5 sacks, which was second on the team. He also led the team's defensive linemen with 43 tackles (33 solo plus 10 assists) and for the second straight season he led the Rams in quarterback hits/hurries.

In 2010 Long moved to left defensive end, a position previously held by Leonard Little, where he is a more "natural fit" according to his coaches. In Week 6, 2010, against the San Diego Chargers, Long recorded two sacks and was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week by the NFL. Long also helped keep the Chargers, who led the league in total offense, to 287 total yards. For the third consecutive season, he led team in hits/hurries.^[23] In addition, he led the NFL in hurries in 2010 with 41.5 and in total quarterback disruptions with 67.5 (Quarterback disruptions are the combined total of quarterback sacks, hits, and hurries) and was voted a 4th alternate to the Pro Bowl.

In 2011 Chris Long decided to change his jersey number from 72 to his former collegiate number 91. On September 17, 2011, the Rams and Long agreed to a restructuring of his contract to free money under the salary cap. The restructured deal includes a $12.1 million signing bonus and a base salary in excess of $10 million in 2012 and with the prorated signing bonus, Long will have an $18.3 million cap number next season ^[24]

On October 30, 2011, Long had a career-high 3 sacks versus the New Orleans Saints and was named Sports Illustrated's NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.^[25] Long also achieved a career-high in sacks in the 2011 season and was voted an alternate to the 2011 Pro Bowl for his efforts. And for the second consecutive season he led the NFL in quarterback disruptions.^[26]

Brandon Lewis Gibson (born August 13, 1987) is an American football wide receiver for the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football and college basketball at Washington State.

Gibson grew up in Puyallup, Washington and graduated from Governor John R. Rogers High School in 2005.

College career[link]

Gibson finished his college career at Washington State as the school's all-time leading receiver with 2,756 yards and 182 receptions^[1] along with 17 touchdowns. He also played for the Washington State basketball team during the 2005-06 season, but decided to focus his attention on football.

In 2007, as a junior, Gibson started 11 games and was named to Phil Steele's Third-Team All-America. Also he was voted First-team All-Pac-10 honors. He set the WSU single-season record for receiving yards in a season with 1,180 on 67 receptions. He also led the team with nine touchdowns, a tie for third most touchdowns in a single season by a WSU Cougar. In 2006 he played in 12 games with no starts. He led the Cougars with 731 yards and was second on the squad in both receptions (49) and touchdowns (four). As a freshman he earned a varsity letter after playing in 10 of the Cougars' 11 games during his debut season. Gibson ended the season with 9 catches for 172 yards (19.2 yard average) and 2 touchdowns.

Gibson seriously considered leaving Washington State to declare for the 2008 NFL Draft due to the team switching coaches, however, the new coaching staff convinced him to stay.^[1]

As a senior in 2008, Gibson earned the fourth varsity letter of his career after starting in each of WSU's 13 games. He was named honorable mention All-Pacific-10 Conference and the team Offensive Most Valuable Player. In 2008 he caught 57 passes for 673 yards and two touchdowns. After the season he received an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl.

Philadelphia Eagles[link]

Gibson was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He inked a four-year deal with Philadelphia on June 6, 2009.^[2]

After being inactive through the first two games of the 2009 season, Gibson played in his first NFL game on September 27 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

St. Louis Rams[link]

Gibson was traded from Philadelphia to the St. Louis Rams on October 20, 2009 along with a fifth round draft pick in 2010 in exchange for linebacker Will Witherspoon.^[3] In his Ram debut, on November 15, 2009, he caught 7 passes for 93 yards, both Ram records for a rookie playing in his first game. The 93 yards was the most by any Ram receiver in 2009, as was the 7 receptions (tied with Danny Amendola).

Neill Blomkamp (born 17 September 1979) is a South African-Canadian^[1] film and advertisement writer and director. Blomkamp employs a documentary-style, hand-held, cinéma vérité technique, blending naturalistic and photo-realistic computer-generated effects. He is best known as the co-writer and director of critically acclaimed District 9, his only feature film to date. He is based out of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Time named Blomkamp as one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2009.^[2] Forbes magazine named him as the 21st most powerful celebrity from Africa.

Early life and career[link]

Blomkamp was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. At 16, he met Sharlto Copley who had also attended Redhill High School in Johannesburg. Copley provided Blomkamp with the use of computers at his production company in order to pursue his passion and talent for 3D animation and design - in return, Blomkamp assisted Copley in creating 3D work for pitches on various projects. His family moved to Vancouver when Blomkamp was 18, where he enrolled in Vancouver Film School. In 2003, Blomkamp was hired to illustrate photo-real future aircraft for Popular Science's "Next century in Aviation" and in 2004 was hired to illustrate "The Future of the Automobile".^[3] Blomkamp worked as a visual effects artist at The Embassy Visual Effects in Vancouver as well as Rainmaker Digital Effects. Blomkamp was signed by Toronto commercial house Spy Films.

In 2007, Blomkamp directed a trilogy of live-action short films (known collectively as Landfall) set in the Halo universe, to promote the release of Halo 3. In 2008, Halo: Combat Evolved, the first of the three installments, won the Cannes Lions 2008 – Film Lions Grand Prix.

Blomkamp was then slated to direct his first feature-length film, an adaptation of the Halo series of video games, produced by Peter Jackson. Peter Jackson had come to know about Blomkamp after viewing a reel of his commercial work and shorts shot in his off time. The four shorts that got him noticed included Tetra Vaal, a faux advertisement for a third-world robotic police that established Neill Blomkamp's signature style of mixing lo-fi production with seamless CGI; Alive in Joburg, a gritty "documentary" about extraterrestrials marooned in Johannesburg; Tempbot, an Office Space-esque spoof; and Yellow, a short film based on the colour yellow for Adidas' "Adicolor" campaign, which portrays a globe-trotting AI gone rogue.

When funding for the Halo film collapsed,^[4] Peter Jackson decided to produce District 9 instead, an adaptation of Blomkamp's earlier short film Alive in Joburg, which had been produced by Hansen and Copley. The film, directed by Blomkamp and starring Copley, was released in mid-August 2009, to positive reviews.^[5]

On October 2010, a video was released on the iPad version of the Wired Magazine, credited to Neill Blomkamp, which shows an amateur recording of two young men who find a dead mutated creature in a puddle of mud while driving down a countryside road. The creature, a dog-sized mix between a pig and a lizard, presents a tattooed seal on its side that reads "18.12 AGM Heartland Pat. Pend. USA".^[6] Also, "AGM Heartland" was trademarked for its use in an entertainment-oriented website. It is yet unknown whether this video holds any relation to Blomkamp's current project, Elysium.^[7]
