Jacques Burger (born 29 July 1983 in Windhoek) is a Namibian rugby union loose forward who plays for Saracens in the Aviva Premiership. His height is 6 ft 2 in and he weighs 105 kg.

He is captain of the Namibia national rugby union team and made his international debut against Zambia in 2004. He participated with the squad at the 2007 Rugby World Cup and 2011 Rugby World Cup.^[2] He currently plays for Saracens, having joined them in the 2009/10 season, and has previously played for the Bulls. Burger was brought in by Brendan Venter as a replacement for Wikus van der Heerden, who returned to South Africa.

At the 2011 Rugby World Cup, the IRB's Rugby News Service listed Jacques Burger as one of the top 5 players of the tournament. Rugby News Service stated that Burger "Consistently the shining light in his side" and that "Even as opposition scores mounted, the 28-year-old continued to tirelessly throw himself into the tackle and threaten turnover ball in the rucks." ^[3]

The back row has quickly earned a reputation as one of the toughest tacklers in the Aviva Premiership following his arrival midway through the 2009/10 season - and his performances also haven't gone unnoticed among as his peers as he was named the Saracens Player of the Year in 2010/11. [1]

James 'Jimmy' Gopperth (born 29 June 1983 in New Plymouth, New Zealand) is a rugby union player who plays for Newcastle Falcons in the Aviva Premiership. His position is first five-eighth and he played previously for the Hurricanes and Blues in the Super 14 and the Junior All Blacks. Gopperth has also played for Old Boys University in the Wellington premier competition and also played with distinction for New Plymouth Boys' High School at school level prior to moving to Wellington. Gopperth signed for current club, Newcastle Falcons in the summer of 2009 on a three year deal with the Guinness Premiership side, which he joined at the end of 2009r.

Before the Hurricanes[link]

Gopperth was born in New Plymouth and first played rugby for New Plymouth Boys' High School, before having his first break in the game and playing for the Old Boys University in the Wellington premier competition. Then, in 2004 at the age of 21, Gopperth signed for the then Super 12 team Hurricanes.

Hurricanes (Wellington)[link]

Gopperth made a good start to his career with the Hurricanes when he made 12 appearances in the 2004/2005 Super 12 season. All of his appearances during that season came from starting the game and he managed to score an impressive 139 points, scoring 3 tries in the process.

Gopperth got a chance to finally show what he could do in the 2005/2006 season, in the newly formed Super 14. He made 7 starts during the season, but made all in all 15 appearances during this season, in which he scored a fairly unimpressive 86, scoring a further 2 tries and racking up 637 minutes throughout.

During the 2006/2007 season Gopperth impressed for his club Wellington, although was unimpressive for his region the Hurricanes. In Super Rugby Gopperth managed to get 66 points in 13 appearances, still nowhere near his opening season tally, but for Wellington in the Air New Zealand Cup he managed to get an impressive 121 points in just 10 games, mostly through the boot finally showing what he could do.

In his final season for the Hurricanes Gopperth still could not reach his true form, only scoring 70 points in 12 games with a single try, but he impressed again in the Air New Zealand Cup where he scored an overall haul of 147 points in 12 games.

Blues (North Harbour)[link]

In 2008, Gopperth joined North Harbour and region Blues. During the 2008/2009 season Gopperth only managed to get 11 games and only starting 9 of them, but still managing to score an impressive 101 points with 4 tries included. Then, Gopperth managed to rack up 90 points in 10 games for North Harbour in the Air New Zealand Cup, where he added two tries to his tally.

Newcastle Falcons[link]

Then in 2009, only a season after joining the Blues, Gopperth joined, the then Guinness Premiership side, Newcastle Falcons on a three year deal. In his first season Gopperth made 22 appearances, scoring 2 tries and a massive haul of 219 points proving what an able replacement he was for Jonny Wilkinson. Gopperth, also made an appearance for Newcastle Falcons in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, not scoring any points, and made 7 appearances in the Amlin Challenge Cup scoring an impressive 74 points.

In the 2010/2011 season, Gopperth has so far made 9 appearances, starting 8 times, for the Newcastle Falcons, scoring 87 points, with a singular try. Gopperth has also made 1 appearance in the Anglo-Welsh Cup where he has scored 8 points thanks to 2 penalties and a conversion.

Gopperth has never played for his national team, the New Zealand and has only ever managed to make one appearance for the second string team the Junior All Blacks. He has only ever made one appearance for the team, which was during the Pacific Nations Cup, which the Junior All Blacks won, and Gopperth managed to score 6 points through, 2 penalty kicks.

Emmanuel Rivière (born 3 March 1990) is a French football player who currently plays for French club Toulouse in Ligue 1. Rivière primarily plays in the lead striker role, but can also operate on the wings. He is a French youth international having played at all levels. Rivière is currently playing with the under-21 team. He is nicknamed Manu by teammates.

Early career[link]

Rivière began his football career playing on the French overseas department of Martinique playing for local side Espoir Sainte-Luce in the commune of Sainte-Luce. He attracted interest from French clubs on the mainland after his performances at the annual Coupe Nationale des 14 ans, which was held at the Clairefontaine academy.^[1] Notable clubs that scouted him included Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique Lyonnais, and Saint-Étienne. The player signed for Saint-Étienne citing the club's history stating, "The ASSE is legendary in Martinique. They're a very big club. My family was happy to see me sign here. My father, who follows a lot of football, talks about them often."^[1]

Saint-Étienne[link]

During his early years at the club, former Saint-Étienne striker and fellow Martiniquais Frédéric Piquionne served as a mentor. Rivière made his debut in the reserves at the age of 16.^[1] During the summer of 2008, he signed his first professional contract agreeing to a three-year deal, which will keep him with the Rhône-Alpes-based outfit until 2011.^[2] Rivière was officially promoted to the senior squad and assigned the number 29 shirt.

For the duration of 2008, Rivière did not see any playing time with the senior team only featuring in the reserves. He made his professional debut on 3 January 2009 in a Coupe de France match against Bordeaux. He started the match playing the full 90 minutes with Saint-Étienne picking up a 1–0 victory courtesy of a goal from Bafétimbi Gomis in the 74th minute.^[3] He made his league debut on 31 January in a match against rivals Lyon coming on as a substitute in the 72nd minute. The match ended in a 1–1 draw.^[4] Rivière scored his first career goal for Saint-Étienne on 13 May 2009 in the club's 4–2 victory over Le Havre.^[5]

Due to the departure of Gomis, injuries to strikers Ilan and Kevin Mirallas, and the late arrival of the Argentine Gonzalo Bergessio, Rivière started the 2009–10 season as the club's first choice striker. On 15 August, Rivière netted his first goal of the season in the club's 3–1 loss to Toulouse.^[6] Following the inclusion of Bergessio into the team, Rivière shifted to the winger role. On 9 January 2010, he scored the opening goal in Saint-Étienne's 4–1 cup victory over Lorient.^[7] The following week, he scored the game-winning goal in a 2–1 victory over Grenoble.^[8] In February and March, Rivière performed valiantly scoring five goals in seven matches and also assisting on a goal. Saint-Étienne only lost one of the seven matches played during the span, which lifted the club out of the relegation zone. Rivière scored opening goals in matches against Lyon and Lille, both of which ended in a draw, and scored the game-winning goal against Montpellier.^[9][10][11] On 5 May, Rivière netted another game-winning goal, this time against Boulogne. The 1–0 result assured Saint-Étienne another campaign in Ligue 1 and also relegated Boulogne.^[12][13]

On 22 July 2010, Rivière signed a three-year contract extension with Saint-Étienne until June 2014.^[14] Before signing the agreement, he drew interest from Ligue 1 club Toulouse and German club Hoffenheim.^[15][16]

Toulouse[link]

On 12 July 2011, French club Toulouse confirmed that Rivière had joined the club on a four-year contract from Saint-Étienne.^[17] The transfer fee was priced at €6 million.^[18]

International career[link]

Rivière is a France youth international having played at all levels beginning with the under-16 team. With the under-16s, Rivière featured only twice playing in two friendly matches against Romania. With the under-17 team, he made his debut in a 1–1 draw against England at the Algarve Cup. Though Rivière did not make the team for the 2007 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship, he did appear with them at the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup, held in South Korea. He was instrumental in the team's 2–1 victory over Japan assisting on the first goal in the 68th minute and scoring the game-winning goal two minutes later. The result sent the team to the knockout rounds where they were eliminated 5–4 on penalties by Spain after the match ended 1–1 in extra time.

Rivière was a regular with the under-18 team making his debut at the Tournio de Limoges. In the tournament, Rivière scored two goals; one each against Scotland and the United States. On 13 March 2008, he scored France's only goal in a 1–1 draw with Germany. The match was played at the Stadion an der Kreuzeiche. Rivière scored his final goal for the team in their opening group stage match against hosts Slovakia at the Slovakia Cup. France lost the match 3–2. Rivière first appeared with the under-19 team at the 2008 edition of the Sendai Cup in September 2008. However, due to his increased playing time with Saint-Étienne's first team, his time with the team dwindled and he was eventually left out of the team for the first round of qualification for the 2009 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship. Rivière made his return to the team on 29 April 2009 scoring two goals in a 7–0 rout of Finland and was later selected to participate in the UEFA-sanctioned tournament. Rivière played in all four of the team's matches including the semi-final, where they suffered elimination losing 3–1 in extra time to England.

On 25 February 2010, Rivière was selected to the under-21 team for the first time for the team's friendly against Croatia on 2 March. He made his under-21 debut in the match starting on the right wing. Rivière provided the assist on the opening goal scored by Nolan Roux in the 19th minute. France won the match 3–1. In the team's next match against Argentina in May, Rivière scored his first under-21 goal in a 3–3 draw.

Joseph Brian Gay (born December 14, 1971) is an American professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour.

Early years[link]

A military brat, Gay was born in Fort Worth, Texas, but was raised primarily at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where his father was a U.S. Army noncomissioned officer involved in flight operations. His father was also a member of the All-Army golf team in his spare time. As an only child, Gay spent much of his youth at the Fort Rucker golf course, first at the practice area, then on the course. Encouraged by a group of military retirees he often played with, he dominated the local tournament scene as a tween.

College career[link]

Gay's success as a teenager led to his receiving an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida, where he played for coach Buddy Alexander's Florida Gators men's golf team in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition from 1991 to 1994.^[1] During his time as a Gator golfer, the team won four consecutive Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships (1991–1994), and the 1993 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships.^[2] As a collegian, he was the SEC Freshman of the Year (1991), a five-time individual medalist, two-time SEC individual champion (1992, 1994), three-time first-team All-SEC selection (1992–1994), and two-time All-American (1992, 1993).^[1][3] Gay was later into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame as a "Gator Great" in 2010.^[4][5]

Professional career[link]

Gay turned pro in 1994 and joined the PGA Tour in 1999. He picked up his first win on tour at the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun in 2008, with his second win coming at the Verizon Heritage in 2009.^[6] He won the event by ten strokes, finishing at 20-under par. The ten stroke victory is one of the biggest wins in the PGA Tour's history. His best position on the year-end money list is 13th in 2009. He has featured in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Rankings.

Gay was not exempt to play in the 2009 U.S. Open heading into the St. Jude Classic. He was one of seven golfers who could earn the last spot in the U.S. Open by winning the St. Jude Classic, using the "Winners of multiple PGA Tour events since the last Open" exemption.^[7] Gay went on to win by five strokes over David Toms and Bryce Molder for his second wire-to-wire win of the season.^[8]

Gay was mentioned frequently in Bud, Sweat and Tees: A Walk on the Wild Side of the PGA Tour by Alan Shipnuck, which profiled Rich Beem's rookie year on the PGA Tour. Steve Duplantis, who became Gay's caddy following a split with Beem, was chronicled as well in Shipnuck's book.
