Rescuers in China Capture Sand Carrier Washed Away by Floods After Typhoon Usagi
Rescuers in Central China capture sand carrier washed away by floods. Full Story: Rescuers in central China's Hunan Province captured on Tuesday a sand carrier washed away by floods triggered by Typhoon Usagi. Local armed force department of Taoyuan County received an emergency call that the carrier had been washed away by the flood swelling a local river. Sixty rescuers with four motor boats and three trucks found the carrier, which was slowly drifting down to the lower reaches of the river after the mooring rope towing it had snapped. The carrier was likely to hit a bridge only 200 meters away, and was threatening the safety of a hydro-power station 500 meters away. Rescuers managed to tie a mooring rope to the carrier and then around a tree, stopping the carrier from drifting further downstream, then later successfully pulled it out onto the river bank.
