Moms is the fifth studio album from the band Menomena. It was released on September 18, 2012.

Background

Following the release of their 2010 album Mines, member Brent Knopf left the group to focus on solo project Ramona Falls. Remaining members Danny Seim and Justin Harris continued on as a two piece. Seim and Harris planned their next album to deal with the topic of mothers; Seim's mother had died when he was young, and Harris was raised largely by a single mother.

Compared to the process of recording Mines, which was "gruelling" according to Seim, the Moms sessions were "our most collaborative and peaceful".

Reception

The album received generally favorable reviews in music publications. On Metacritic, it received a 81/100 based on 23 reviews indicating "universal acclaim". Pitchfork Media gave the album an eight out of ten rating and commented that the album was "the most aggressive record Menomena have ever made".Allmusic felt the maternal theme was a "unifying" element and appreciated the album's "emotional depth". The album peaked at #150 on the Billboard 200 chart and at #32 on the Independent Albums chart.

History

The Ancient Greeks had a concept of arete which meant an outstanding fitness for purpose. This occurs in the works of Aristotle and Homer.

Another related concept was eudaimonia which was the happiness which resulted from a life well-lived, being prosperous and fulfilled. The equivalent concept in Muslim philosophy is ihsan.

Excellence (software)

Excellence was a word processor for the Amiga computer, created by Micro-Systems Software as a follow-up to their earlier Scribble! word processor. The primary author was Steve Pagliarulo. It was one of the first WYSIWYG word processors for the Amiga.

After the initial release there were two major updates, the last being version 3.0, released in 1993. This was the final software program released by Micro-Systems.

Excellence (pop group)

Excellence were a Swedish pop girl group from 2001 created through the TV programme Popstars on Kanal 5. The group scored a number one album on the Swedish Charts, as well as five top 10 singles, and entered Melodifestivalen 2002. They also collaborated with Markoolio on the official Swedish song for the 2002 Winter Olympics "Vi ska vinna!" The group split up shortly after the single was released. Member Ana Johnsson later scored a worldwide solo hit with the song "We Are" from the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack and has recently (October 2006) released her second album Little Angel.
