Jia Yi (賈誼, pinyin: Jiǎ Yí; Chia I, Wade-Giles; 201 BCE – 169 BCE) was a Chinese poet and statesman of the Han Dynasty.

Jia Yi was born in 201 BCE in Luoyang.^[1]

When he reached the age of 18, he was already well known in his county for his ability in poems and essay-writing, and was referred to as "Jia sheng", i.e. "Student Jia". Soon, he was recommended by Wu Gong (吳公) to Emperor Wen of Han. He soon achieved a high status but was repulsed by older, high-ranking officials at the time such as Zhou Bo (周勃) and Guan Ying (灌嬰).

Jia Yi made many suggestions to Emperor Wen about governing his empire. As an advocate of Confucian reforms, attacking Xiongnu and lessening the power of local governors, he made enemies at court and lost his position.^[1][2] He became the tutor to the King of Changsha,^[1] a place he disliked as he feared its humid climate would lead to an early death. When passing the Xiang river, he wrote several poems grieving for his sad fate and compared himself with Qu Yuan, as he believed he was sent into exile. Changsha was known as "The home of Qu [Yuan] and Jia [Yi]" (屈賈之鄉) because of their influence.

In 173 BC, he was recalled by the emperor to the capital Luoyang, allegedly to be asked about matters of mysticism by Emperor Wen, and was later made a tutor of his youngest son, Prince Huai of Liang (梁懷王), true name Liu Yi (劉揖).

In 169 BC, Prince Huai of Liang, whom he tutored, fell off a horse and died. The following year Jia committed suicide,^[1] allegedly out of feelings of responsibility for the incident.

He is known for his fù (賦), poems in a mixed prose and poetry style that was popular in the Han Dynasty, and for his political works such as Guo Qin Lun (過秦論) and Zhi'An Ce (治安策), the latter mostly lost. Since he wrote favorably of social and ethical ideas attributed to Confucius and wrote an essay focused on the failings of the Legalist-based Qin Dynasty (221–206 BC), he was classified by other scholars in the Han Dynasty as a Confucian scholar (rujia).^[1]

Shao Jiayi (Chinese: 邵佳一; Pinyin: Shào Jiāyī) (born 10 April 1980) is a Chinese footballer. Previously, Shao played in Germany for Energie Cottbus, 1860 Munich and MSV Duisburg, as well as starting his career with Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League. Due to his ability of scoring freekick in crutial matches, fans regarded his lefty curved ball as "绍氏弧线(Shao's curvature)".^[1] Internationally, Shao represented China at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and has scored five goals in two AFC Asian Cup tournaments.

Shao Jiayi started his professional football career in the 1999 Chinese league season, playing for his local top tier football club Beijing Guoan when the clubs manager Shen Xiangfu promoted him to the senior team. Despite a change in management with Milovan Đorić and then Wei Kexing coming in the following season Shao would gradually start to establish himself as regular within the team and due to his commanding presence in the centre of midfield he would start to be see touted as one of the most exciting players in Chinese football.^[2] As the season wore on the Chinese national team coach, Bora Milutinović would be impressed by Shao's performances and decided to include him in the squad that came fourth within the 2000 AFC Asian Cup.^[3] When he returned from the tournament he would then help guide Beijing to the 2000 Chinese FA Cup final where they lost to Chongqing Lifan.^[4] After his break-out season with Beijing, Shao would now become a vital member of the teams midfield and once again helped guide the club to another Chinese FA Cup final in 2001 where this time they faced Dalian Shide, however once again the club failed to lift any silverware and lost. Shao would however find more success with the national team when he was part of the squad that won qualification to the 2002 FIFA World Cup for the first time. At the tournament Shao would go on to play in two games while China were knocked-out of the group stages.^[5]

While Shao may have had a disappointing tournament he did gather enough attention to impress Fußball-Bundesliga side 1860 Munich who signed him on a loan deal from Beijing Guoan. Shao played there for two and a half seasons before moving to Energie Cottbus. He scored his first goal for Energie Cottbus at home against Hertha Berlin and away to Borussia Dortmund right after coming on as a substitute. He came on as a substitute in the 84th minute in an away game against Bayer Leverkusen and equalised with a header. After playing in German for 9 years, Shao returned to Beijing to rejoin his former club, Beijing Guoan.

Shao has a nickname which is often written as "+1", as it pronounces similar to his name "Jiayi" in Chinese. He became the first Chinese footballer to receive a red card in a World Cup match against Turkey in 2002. Due to China failing to qualify for a World Cup since then, he remains the only Chinese player to receive a red card at the tournament.

Chen Xiaowang 陳小旺 (born 20 October 1945)^[1] is a famous Chinese taijiquan teacher. Born and raised in Chen Family Village (Chenjiagou, 陳家溝), Wen County, Henan province, Chen Xiaowang is the 19th generation lineage holder of Chen-style taijiquan. His grandfather was the famous taijiquan grandmaster Chen Fake.

Chen Xiaowang began his study of Chen-style taijiquan at the age of seven under his father, Chen Zhaoxu, and later with his uncles Chen Zhaopi and Chen Zhaokui.^[2] Recognized as one of four "Buddha's Warrior Attendants (Si Jingang)," the four outstanding exponents of the 19th generation in Chenjiagou,^[3] Chen Xiaowang was chairperson of the Henan Province Chen Push Hands Taijiquan Association; deputy head of the Wushu Academy of Henan Province; and technical advisor and official assessor for the standardized competition routines for the Chen, Yang, Wu, and Sun styles of taijiquan.^[4]

Chen was awarded the Chinese National Wushu Tournament Taijiquan gold medal three consecutive years beginning in 1980. In 1985, he was crowned Taijiquan Champion at the First International Wushu Competition in Xi'an.^[5]

Apart from his martial arts prowess, Chen is a carpenter by trade,^[6] a calligrapher, an author of three Taijiquan books, and is known to enjoy Mao Jian Cha tea (信阳毛尖茶).^[7]

Contributions to Chen-style Taijiquan[link]

Grandmaster Chen has created two condensed forms of the laojia and xinjia forms; a 38-posture form and a 19-posture form. He told inside Kung-Fu Magazine in 1991, "I have tried to do away with all the repetitions and simplify the exceedingly difficult moves without destroying the characteristics of Chen Style Taijiquan, with special emphasis to attack/defense and the chansi technique."

Chen was also famously depicted in a March 1981 Japanese documentary on Taijiquan.^[8] In it, he demonstrates the laojia form, fa jin, and escapes from various qinna holds.

Vic Chou (Chinese: 周渝民; pinyin: Zhōu Yúmín) is a Taiwanese actor, singer and commercial model. He is a member of the Taiwanese boy band F4, and has starred in Taiwanese dramas. His stage name, 周渝民, literally means “a completely changed person”. It had a variation only in the middle character (from 育 to 渝) from his birth name, 周育民 (pinyin: Zhōu Yùmín), which literally means “a completely nourished or reared person”.

Vic Chou was born on June 9, 1981, making him the youngest of the F4 members. He is considered the baby of F4, being treated the best by other F4 members. His mother has Taiwanese aborigines Atayal bloodline while his father is Taiwanese with ancestry from Linyi, Shandong Province. His grandmother gave him the nickname Zàizài "仔仔", meaning "little boy", which has become a nickname for him among fans.

Entering the Industry[link]

He was discovered when he accompanied a friend auditioning for a role in Meteor Garden. While waiting for a friend at their auditions, he was huddled in a corner near one of the Meteor Garden staff's office, who said he looked like Huā Zé Lèi and was asked to audition. Meteor Garden was adopted from a Japanese, "Boys Over Flowers" (Japanese romanization: Hana Yori Dango). He was asked to play the role of Huā Zé Lèi, a very silent and sensitive guy who befriends the female protagonist Shān Cài, played by Barbie Hsu.

He was the first F4 member to release his own album when Make a Wish (album) was released in January 2002. It was followed by Remember, I Love You which was released in January 2004. He also sang some solo songs included in F4’s albums like two songs in "Meteor Rain", released in August 2001 and 2 songs in "Fantasy 4ever", released in December 2002. His third album, I'm Not F4 was released in October 2007. He has 2 solo songs in F4/JVKV's most recent album "Waiting for You Here" [在這裡等你], released in December 2007. His solo songs also appear in the Original Soundtrack (OST) of "Love Storm" [狂愛龍捲風], "Silence" [深情密碼] and "Wish to See You Again" [這裡發現愛]。 His and F4’s albums were all released under Sony Music Taiwan.

Acting career[link]

Aside from "Meteor Garden" [流星花園], Zhou has appeared in many Taiwanese series such as the four-episode "Meteor Rain" [流星雨], "Poor Prince" [貧窮貴公子], "Meteor Garden II" (sequel of "Meteor Garden I"), "Come To My Place" [來我家吧], and "Love Storm" [狂愛龍捲風]. All of the above mentioned dramas had a lighter tone to them, and are considered to be very "typical" idol drama faire. However, with his next role in "Mars" 【戰神】, co-starring Barbie Hsu, Zhou has publicly acknowledged that this was a turning point for his career. Zhou plays a set of twins, one of which on the surface seems happy-go-lucky but ends up committing suicide, and the other of which struggles with mental illness and post-traumatic stress syndrome. The plot-line of the series delves deep into issues not generally explored in idol dramas such as the frailty of the human psyche, violence, goodness versus evil, suicide, and sexual abuse, just to name a few. In many interviews, Zhou has pinpointed this as the moment where his interest in acting was truly piqued. Since then, Zhou has taken on increasingly more multi-faceted roles deliberately varying them one from another. "Qi Wei Yi" in Silence was an ambitious but lonely business man whose only moment of happiness took place 13 years ago with a mute girl. He finally finds love only to come down with cancer. "Zhi Tian" in "Sweet Relationship," [美味關係]is a cranky but perfectionist chef who spends most of his time yelling at his apprentices. "Xu Le" in "Wish to See You Again" [這裡發現愛] is an awkward but passionate best-selling novelist who innocently falls in love for the first time. His role in Black and White marks a departure from Taiwanese idol dramas. Zhou takes on the challenging role of a very emotionally complex policeman with a past that is thrown into a dangerous web of corruption. "Sheng Yue Ru" in "The Last Night of Madame Chin" [金大班的最後一夜], a young man from Shanghai high society, has studied abroad, loves painting and theater, and someone who is single-minded and dedicated to love. They fell deeply in love and became lovers. But their relationship faced strong resistance and objections from both families, especially Yue Ru's father, a rich banker.

Vic embarked upon his first movie in 2008, "Linger" [蝴蝶飛]/ Hu Die Fei was released. Mid-summer 2008, Zhou came out with his second movie, "Tea Fight." Due to its popularity, talks of bringing "Black and White" to the big screen are currently taking place.

In 2009, Vic was nominated for Best Leading Actor in a Television Series at the 44th Golden Bell Awards for his role in Black & White (痞子英雄).^[1]

He also released a photographic album in October 2002, entitled "Travel Dream" (流浪夢, pinyin: Liú Làng Mèng) which contains his pictures shot during one of his trips to Hokkaidō, Japan.

His second photobook entitled 4Faces: Taipei & Tokyo was released in October 2006. It showcased ZaiZai's flexibility in front of the camera. There are 4 themes: Natural Face, Cool Face, Stylish Face and Fashionable Face. The first 2 themes were shot in Taipei while the last 2 themes were shot in Tokyo. This photobook is one of the bestsellers in HMV, a leading music and book store.
