Callan Ward (born 10 April 1990) is an Australian rules footballer who is the co-captain for The Greater Western Sydney Football Club in the Australian Football League, and previously played for the Western Bulldogs.

AFL career[link]

Ward nominated for the 2007 AFL National Draft. Leading into the draft, five player managers vied to represent him, and a week out from the draft he decided with Paul Connors, who also represents Chris Judd. He was selected by the Bulldogs with their second selection (#19 overall) at 10.12 am after being a mere 20 days old enough to nominate for the draft.^[1]

Western Bulldogs career (2008–2011)[link]

He made his debut against St Kilda in Round 11, collecting 12 disposals and finishing with one goal. In his debut year, he played six games while juggling full-time football and his last year of high school. He had an outstanding season in 2009 playing in the mould of Tony Liberatore. He tackles with aggression, marks well and knows how to kick a goal. He is a team player and can be used in a variety of positions including a tagging role.

Greater Western Sydney career (2012–present)[link]

On 5 September 2011, Callan announced that as of the 2012 season, he would be play for the Greater Western Sydney Football Club. He was the second player to announce that he had signed with the Giants. It was later announced, he would be made co-captain alongside Phil Davis and Luke Power

On 24 March 2012, in the Giants debut AFL match against The Sydney Swans, he kicked their first ever goal. ^[2]

Callan is the grandson of former South Melbourne player, Bill Gunn, who played 104 games for them from 1952 to 1959. He also captained them in the 1955 season.

Rhys Palmer (born 13 February 1989) is an Australian rules footballer who is currently contracted to Greater Western Sydney in the Australian Football League. He previously played for Fremantle, and won the AFL Rising Star award in 2008.

Early life[link]

Palmer played junior football for the Bullcreek Leeming Junior Football Club.^[1]

He made his West Australian Football League (WAFL) debut for East Fremantle in 2007, playing 14 games, obtaining over 20 possessions in his final six games, include five goals in one game.^[2]

Palmer was a key member of Western Australia's victorious 2007 AFL National Under 18 Championships side, averaging 32 possessions and 3 goals per game. He finished second by one vote behind Cale Morton in the Larke Medal and was named in the Under 18 All-Australian side.^[3]

Palmer gained attention again at 2007 AFL Draft Camp finishing second in the 3 km time trial with a time of 10min 25sec and fifth in the beep test with a score of 14.8.^[4]

AFL career[link]

Palmer was taken at pick #7 overall in the 2007 AFL Draft by Fremantle.

He put in some impressive performances in the 2008 NAB Cup and after being named as an emergency for the opening round of the 2008 season, Palmer made his debut in Round 2 at Subiaco Oval against Hawthorn. Whilst his debut match was good personally, with 22 possessions and a goal, Fremantle lost the match by 15 points.^[5] In his second match he was awarded the AFL Rising Star nomination for his outstanding performance in the Western Derby,^[6] despite receiving a gash to his head in the opening quarter.^[7]

After being nominated in Round 3, Palmer won the 2008 AFL Rising Star ahead of Cyril Rioli from Hawthorn with 8 of the 9 judges voting him as the best emerging player. He missed the 2009 season because of a knee reconstruction.

Palmer joined Greater Western Sydney in September 2011, becoming the third uncontracted player, after Phil Davis and Callan Ward, to join the club in preparation for its entry into the AFL for the 2012 season.^[8]

Rodney "Rocket" Eade (born 4 April 1958) is a former Australian rules footballer and the former coach of the Sydney Swans and Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL). Eade is the current Football and Coaching Strategist of the Collingwood Football Club.

Playing career[link]

Recruited from Glenorchy, the winger played 229 games and kicked 46 goals for Hawthorn between 1976–1987, playing in the 1976, 1978, 1983, and 1986 premierships. He moved to the Brisbane Bears in 1988, playing 30 games and kicking three goals until his retirement in 1990.

Eade coached the Brisbane Bears to an AFL Reserves Premiership in 1991.

Sydney Swans[link]

He took the coaching reins of the Sydney Swans in 1996, taking them to a Grand Final in his first year however they lost to North Melbourne. In his second year, in the 1997 season he took Sydney to sixth spot on the ladder but were eliminated in the qualifying finals to Western Bulldogs. In the 1998 season, he took Sydney to a better performance to third on the ladder where they eliminated St Kilda in the qualifying finals before being eliminated by Adelaide in the preliminary finals who were eventual premiers. In the 1999 season he took Sydney to eighth spot on the ladder where they were eliminated in the qualifying finals to Essendon by a big margin of 69 points. In the 2000 season, he took Sydney to eleventh spot on the ladder missing out in the finals. In the 2001 season, he took Sydney back into the finals finishing with seventh spot on the ladder before being eliminated by Hawthorn in the elimination finals. In the 2002 season, with Sydney's record getting worse week by week by being placed fourteenth on the ladder, Rodney Eade resigned following a narrow Round 12 loss to Geelong; he was replaced by Paul Roos for the rest of the 2002 season who was eventually appointed full time.

Western Bulldogs[link]

He spent 2003 and 2004 as a media writer and commentator, before being appointed coach of the Western Bulldogs for the 2005 season. In his first season as coach, he took an under-achieving Bulldogs side within a goal of a finals series berth, when they had finished with less than 5 wins in the previous two years, but just missed out of the finals finishing in ninth spot on the ladder. In 2006, he took the 'Dogs to a final series for the first time since Terry Wallace in 2000 where they eliminated Collingwood in the elimination finals but lost to West Coast in the preliminary finals who were eventual premiers . In the 2007 season, he took Bulldogs to finish thirteenth on the ladder which was very unexpected, due to this his job was in jeopardy in 2007 due to a sudden downturn in the team's performance, but rather than firing him, the club limited his expansive duties^[1]

In the 2008 season, Eade coached the Bulldogs to third on the ladder, and then the club's first preliminary final since 1998, but were eliminated by Geelong who were eventual runners-up. In 2009 and 2010, Eade took the Bulldogs two more consecutive preliminary finals, falling to St Kilda on both occasions.

Due to Western Bulldogs not progressing well in the 2011 season, being placed twelve on the ladder. Following a big loss to Essendon by forty nine points in Round 21. It was announced on 17 August 2011, that Eade's contract would not be renewed at the conclusion of the 2011 season.^[2] The following day, Eade stepped down as coach of the Bulldogs.^[3] He was replaced by caretaker coach Paul Williams for the remainder of the 2011 season.

Collingwood[link]

On 3 October 2011, Eade was appointed by Collingwood to the position of Football and Coaching Strategist, replacing outgoing coach Mick Malthouse, who had originally planned to step into that role after the 2011 season.

Eade coached the Australian International rules football team in October/November 2011 in Australia.

Danny Frawley (born 8 September 1963) is a former Australian rules footballer and football commentator with Fox Sports. He currently is an assistant coach at St Kilda Football Club

He is the nephew of Collingwood player Des Tuddenham and the uncle of current Melbourne Football Club player James Frawley.

Football career[link]

Recruited from Ballarat, after attending St Patrick's College, Ballarat, where he was a potato farmer which led to his nickname of Spud, Frawley initially played as a forward but soon became a renowned full-back. He was the longest serving captain of the St Kilda Football Club and enjoyed a career from 1984–1995. He was inducted into the Saints' hall of fame in 2007.^[1]

Coaching career[link]

Frawley took up the coaching reins at the Richmond Football Club in 2000. In his first year they just missed out of the finals finishing 9th. In 2001 he took the Tigers into the finals where in the preliminary finals they were eliminated by the Brisbane Lions who were the eventual premiers. In 2002, however, Richmond struggled and finished 14th. This continued in 2003, when, after a six wins and two losses start to the season, they lost 13 of their next 14 matches and finished 13th.

Frawley and Richmond kept struggling and finished 16th (the "wooden spoon" position) in 2004. Midway through the season, Frawley announced he would resign at the end of the season.^[2] Richmond lost their last fourteen matches of the season.

Since leaving coaching, Frawley has been a special comments man for Triple M.^[3] In June 2006, he coached a winning Victorian State of Origin side in the E. J. Whitten Legends Match and became the chief executive of the AFL coaches association.^[2]

Personal life[link]

Frawley is married to Anita Frawley, who was a host of the Fox Footy Channel's Living with Footballers show.^[4] They have three daughters.

Post-football[link]

Frawley is a commentator for Fox Footy and is the co-host of After The Bounce with Jason Dunstall, as well as a part of the Triple M Footy team on Saturday afternoons. He has also been involved with Channel 9.

Tadhg Kennelly (born 1 July 1981) is an Irish sportsperson known for his top level careers in both Gaelic football, Australian rules football and Cricket.

Kennelly grew up playing Gaelic football in Kerry, but moved to Australia to play professional Australian rules football in the Australian Football League. He is best known in Australia as the first Irish-born player to have received an AFL Premiership medallion and the first AFL player to represent Ireland against Australia in International Rules Series. He is the second most experienced player (after Jim Stynes) to be associated with the Irish experiment.

Kennelly returned to his native Listowel to play in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship 2009. On 20 September 2009 he started the 2009 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final as part of Kerry's All-Ireland winning side, scoring two fantastic points in the final and thus becoming the first person to win an AFL Premiership and a Senior All-Ireland Championship. After achieving his dream, he returned to the AFL to play for Sydney, after missing one season.

Kennelly was born in Listowel in 1981 to mother Nuala^[1] and father Tim Kennelly, a former All-Ireland Senior Football Championship winner with Kerry.^[2] In Australia, Kennelly's first name, Tadhg in the Irish language, is often mispronounced as "Tie" or misspelt Tadgh, but is in fact correctly pronounced quite similarly to the first three letters of tiger and spelt with the h before the g.
