Jewish Food Festival in North London: Jews Gather for Gefiltefest's Cooking Competitions and Events
Despite the bitterly cold temperatures, more than 500 of London's Jewish community turned up last weekend for this year's Gefiltefest, the city's annual Jewish Food Festival. Based around the tireless efforts of Michael Leventhal and ultimately organised in conjunction with the LJCC and Jewish Community Centre for London, Gefiltefest's day-long programme at Anna Pavlova's former home in North London filled the Golders Green air with the smell of delicious food. Empty stomachs were filled by grabbing chefs' selections from over 50 demonstrations and workshops. They were being treated by the great and the good of the culinary and Jewish world. Michael Leventhal, founder and director of Gefiltefest, explained that "Jews eat more than most. It's central to Judaism and inspiring to see so many people sharing and celebrating together." While Rabbi Eiran Davies showed off his knife sharpening skills, Gefiltefest founding patron Claudia Roden was interviewed by food blogger Anthony Silverman. Guest chefs shared their fabulous food skills, including making your own kiddish wine, challah baking, chocolate truffle making, Tunisian cookery with Denise Phillips and the Art of Filo Pastry with Sula Leon. The kids ran wild in the kitchen too, creating 'disgusting dishes', edible art and a massive marshmallow and ice cream cone Mount Sinai as part of an edible Shavuot landscape. The original Goodies' trandem three-seater bike also made a surprise appearance. It was ridden, with varying ...

2010 San Francisco Street Food Festival
There is nothing like a really good street vendor...especially if the chow that the vendor is hawking is your comfort food. The 2nd Annual San Francisco Street Food Festival was held this weekend, Aug. 21, 2010, down in the Mission District of San Francisco. There was a ton of really good food there. Some off the hook fantastic...some, nasty as shit. The scene was a massive clusterfuck but the idea behind it is stellar. Here is the premise. Invite local street vendors/food trucks (think high end, not roach coach) and have them peddle their goods at a central location...close off the streets in the heart of the Mission, serve some cold beers and hooch, throw in some jams, a little bit of sunshine, the Latin flair that is "The Mission", some hipster doofus Mission clowns and, all in all, have a party. I likes me the party too! I sampled a ton of really good food...I sampled some real crap. Here is some of the stuff that really stuck out in my mind. Chez Papa Resto Stuffed Figs -- grilled figs stuffed with bleu cheese wrapped in prosciutto. Fantastic idea and creative as hell but they really didn't taste. Rather bland. I would definitely give them another go-round though. Just a great sounding dish. I am thinking it was still early. Hell, I may just do this one myself...Maybe drizzle a honey over the whole damn thing. Fig, bleu cheese, prosciutto...served warm with a honey drizzle...maybe that was it...ours were cold as ice...hmmmm?! Bi-Rite Creamery - Malted Milk Chocolate ...

2010 Las Olas Wine and Food Festival
Even though the recent 15th Annual Las Olas Wine & Food Festival (LOWFF) broke all previous attendance records of 2500 wine and food lovers, there were no long lines to wait in... plenty of food from the 67 restaurants and wine flowing freely at 45 wine tables. This year the festival sold out a week in advance making it one of the most desired tickets in town! Another huge success was some of the most popular chefs in South Florida paired with winemakers from around the country at four local restaurants -- Johnny V, Riverside Hotel, Timpano Chophouse and Martini Bar, and Tuscan Grill. Live music by The WEEDLINE, Pan Vibes, & DJ Jason Bogle. The Bombay Sapphire Lounge, Bonterra Vineyards VIP Reception, & Allied Ultra Lounge made this year unforgettable! To get involved with the 2011 festival please contact Paula Prendergast 954-524-4657 or pprendergast@lungfla.org Each block boasted something that is bound to keep patrons coming back year after year. The Bombay Sapphire lounge offered specialty cocktails and treated guests to a learning experience by allowing them to make their own Sapphire Collins -- the official festival drink. Nothing looked better on the boulevard than seeing pedestrians take to the street in an ambiance of white couches, VIP cabanas, and the festival signature Asian lanterns throughout the six blocks of Las Olas Boulevard. Special awards were handed out including, Best Food: 1st Place Winner, Hyatt Pier 66; 2nd Place Winner: Bonefish Grill; 3rd Place ...

A visit to Welland's Niagara Food Festival - 1 October 2011
Unfortunately, it was a cold, damp and windy Saturday morning that I chose to visit Welland's Niagara Food Festival. The normally crowded festival, which is a seasonal highlight in the Niagara Region, was barren of visitors, although I was told that it was much better in the afternoon and on Sunday. I have to say though, the hot ginger carrot soup at 7:22 was exactly what I needed. For more info go towww.niagarawatch.com
