Indian Builds Affordable Compact Car
India is the home to one of the world's smallest and cheapest consumer cars: the Tata Nano. But now one mechanic has built an even more compact car at his workshop in southern India. He was inspired by the lack of road space and the ever-increasing cost of living.

The owner of this Bangalore mechanical workshop has built an affordable compact car.
The lack of parking space and the increasing cost of living were the main inspiration for Narsimha Raju, who built the two-seater car for those on a low budget.
[Narsimha Raju, Compact Car Builder]:
"As you know in our society, we don't get proper space to park our cars or even moving on road, there is no space. Because of this congested life everybody, I thought why should I not do a compact car, which is suitable to everyday, cost wise and space wise. And that was the inspiration."
Raju's affordable car is on the same budget as a two-wheeler but with added protection.
[Narsimha Raju, Compact Car Builder]:
"The car is mainly suitable to an ordinary person who can afford a two wheeler."
Once officially approved, his car will be on sale for around 1,700 U.S dollars.
The helmet shaped car has upward opening doors, weighs around 150 kilograms and has a four-stroke petrol engine of 175 cc.
It can cover 35 kilometres per litre with the highest speed of 80 kilometers.

Coming to America: Mitsubishi Electric & Compact Cars
The Mitsubishi "i" car has been a huge success in Japan since its launch in 2006. Now California is making moves to do fleet testing of Mitsubishi's electric vehicles in the United States.
Is America ready for the "i" car, a rear engine, uber compact import that is low on emissions and fuel consumption or is it too late to break away from the 'bigger is better' obsession?
In this video WebRidesTV host Jessyca Rayanne interviews the Chief Designer of Mitsubishi R&D; of America, Inc. Design Studio at the 2008 Mitsubishi Owner's Day in Southern California. Get an inside look at what Mitsubishi has planned for electric cars in the U.S.!
Random Note: Mitsubishi got the "iCar" name BEFORE Apple could add it to their long line of "i" products including the popular iPhones, iPods and iMacs... Wonder what Apple's version of an "iCar" would look like...

2013 Hyundai Elantra GT Hatchback Compact Car Video Review
http://www.autobytel.com/hyundai/elantra-gt/2013/ The 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT is a very practical and sensible compact car that offers and amazing amount of space. The Elantra GT is different from other Elantra models due to the fact that it is a 4 door hatchback, also called a 5 door hatch. Hyundai states this car is very versatile and inspired by a European design. The 2013 Hyundai Elantra has a lot going for it especially the low base price of $18,395.
On the outside the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT has a distinct European feel. This compact hatchback benefits from the Fluidic Sculpture that is evident on other more expensive Hyundai vehicles. The large wrap around front headlights look really aggressive and the new Hyundai front grille is pretty cool. The Elantra GT has a few chrome accent pieces here and there but it is the nice lines that run the length of the car that give the GT its personality. Out back the vehicle has a hidden rearview camera and a paint matched rear wing that blends seamlessly.
On the inside the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT has more cargo room than the competition. The panoramic sunroof is a feature reserved for cars costing twice as much. You have the ability to upgrade to more premium features like a Navigation unit, leather interior, power seats, keyless entry, push button start, and more. But even the base model vehicle is more than adequate.
The 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT is powered by a 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 148 horsepower. There are 2 transmission choices: a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual. Opting for the automatic will result in better fuel economy at 28 MPG in the city and 39 MPG on the highway. The Elantra GT is a very safe car with a multiple airbag system that includes knee airbags. Other safety systems include stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, and brake force distribution.

2013 Dodge Dart Test Drive & Compact Car Video Review
http://www.autobytel.com/dodge/dart/2013/ The 2013 Dodge Dart marks the return of Chrysler to the compact car segment. The Dart first appeared back in the 1960's and died off in 1976. But this nameplate was resurrected for the 2013 model year. In fact this is Dodge's first compact 4-door sedan for sale in the U.S. since the demise of the Neon in 2005. The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart is very stylish and modern with a very affordable $15,995 base price.
Detroit has once again become a player in the compact car segment with the likes of the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, and now the Dodge Dart. From a styling perspective the new 2013 Dodge Dart is very sleek with the trade-mark crosshair grille and the swept headlights which make the car very aerodynamic. The front end of the Dart really stands out from the crowd of Honda Civics and Toyota Corollas. Out back the LED taillights are directly derived from the Dodge Charger.
There are 3 Tigershark 4-cylinder 16-valve engine options offered on the 2013 Dodge Dart line. The base engine is a 2.0 liter that makes 160 horsepower and 148 lb-ft. of torque getting 25 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on the highway. The 1.4 liter MultiAir Turbo is familiar because this motor is derived from FIAT. This turbocharged engine also makes 160 horsepower but with 184 lb-ft. of torque getting 27 MPG in the city and 39 MPG on the highway. The top of the line engine is the 2.4 liter which makes 184 horsepower and 171 lb-ft. of torque. You can get either a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission.
The FIAT influence does not stop at the engine. Instead the 2013 Dodge Dart is based on the FWD compact wide US platform. Essentially this rides on an enlarged Alfa Romeo Giulietta platform making this the most rigid compact sedan in the segment. The interior of the new Dodge Dart offers a few welcomed surprises. The Dart has an optional 8.4-inch screen that is one of the best in the industry. It is huge, easy to read, and easy to control. Something else you do not find in the compact car category is the 7-inch tin-film customizable gauge cluster. This is a great feature for a vehicle in this segment that is supposed to appeal to young people.
The bottom line on the 2013 Dodge Dart is that it is facing some really tough competition with the likes of the Civic, Corolla, Elantra, and the Forte. The question is: "Do you want to take a chance on something brand new." The Dart has only been out a couple of months and there is not a lot of data or feedback yet on it. The 2013 Dodge Dart is a very good affordable car and should be on your list of vehicles to test drive when shopping for a compact sedan.

2012 Fiat 500 Abarth Test Drive & Sub-Compact Car Video Review
http://www.autobytel.com/fiat/500/2012/abarth/ The 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth comes packing a turbocharged motor that delivers a heaping amount of torque at low RPM's which allows the driver to get off the line quick. The suspension is stiffer and the exterior is more aggressive. The Fiat 500 Abarth is a sub-compact car that is a total blast to drive. The MSRP on a 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth is $22,000.
Back in the 1950's Carlo Abarth used Fiat vehicles as race cars. These little automobiles were very successful racers and Carlo Abarth ventured out making high performance parts for Fiat vehicles. Fiat then bought out Abarth in 1971 and designated that name for their racing department. Fast forward to 2012 and we have a potent little rocket in the Fiat 500 Abarth.
Differentiating the Abarth from a more mundane Fiat 500 is easy. The Abarth model will carry with it the signature scorpion badges that Abarth is known for. Other styling ques include an Abarth sport stripe, performance front bumper, twin exhaust, 2-piece rear fascia, rear spoiler, and 17-inch rims. On the inside the 2012 Fiat Abarth treats the driver to high performance sport seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, aluminum pedals, boost gauge, Bose sound system, and more.
It's the performance aspect that sets the 2012 Fiat Abarth apart from the rest of the pack. Then engine is a turbocharged 16-valve 1.4 liter 4-cylinder that makes 160 horsepower and 170 lb-ft. of torque. The power control module makes sure the Abarth is operating at peak performance while in Sport mode. The car still manages to get 28 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway too! The wheels are wrapped in sticky Pirelli P Zero tires for additional stick. Suspension wise the 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth features stiffer springs and KONI shocks for added handling performance. The steering is quicker and more responsive thanks to a tuned system calibrated around the electric power steering unit. The brakes are larger rotors to take care of any spirited driving needs.
The 2012 Fiat Abarth is full of personality and it drives around like an angry little car looking for a fight. This is great for the driver that wants a fun and sporty sub-compact car. The turbocharged engine provides plenty of motivation while the suspension is capable of handling the twisties. As an added bonus all Fiat 500 Abarth buyers will get to experience a personalized Abarth Track Experience which include track instruction with a professional driver.

This is one of the Seasonal Challenges in Gran Turismo 5, where you are limited to choose a compact car which does not exceed its length of 4200mm and keep the performance points (pp) under 400. The tyres are limited to comfort / soft or less.
I have decided to choose the Mazda Miata (Eunos Roadster) J-Limited Edition form 1991. You can do this with every version of the miatas, it doesn't matter which one you choose. The installed tuning parts of this car are the following:
- Window Weight Reduction
- Carbon Bonnet
- Rigidity Improvement
- Sports ECU (100%)
- Fully Customizable Transmission
- Clutch: Twin-Plate
- Semi-Racing Flywheel
- Fully Customisable LSD
- Carbon Propeller Shaft
- Fully customisable Suspension Kit
- Aero parts are installed aswell
Except adding the Sports ECU, I didn't install any other engine tuning parts. If you are very skilled, you shouldn't have problems beating the first 4 races of this seasonal with these settings. The last race is a bit tricky ad may requires some more HP to do it. Any critics and suggestions are welcome.

2013 Mazda2 Test Drive & Sub-Compact Car Video Review
http://www.autobytel.com/mazda/mazda2/2013/ With gas prices on the never ending rise, subcompact cars like the 2013 Mazda2 are becoming more popular. 10 years ago there were few of these vehicles on the market. Now it seems every manufacturer is looking to gain some ground in this niche. The Mazda2 is one of the more popular subcompact cars thanks to its low cost, good gas mileage ratings, and fun to drive characteristics. In Europe, subcompact cars are the norm; but here in the U.S. they are just now beginning to have an impact. The 2013 Mazda2 has a base price of $14,720.
The Mazda2 started life out in Japan, Europe, and Australia back in 2007. But this little car can trace its roots back to the late 1990's as the Demio. The Mazda2 appeared here in the U.S. as a 2011 model. Usually subcompact cars are bland and boring little appliances suited for monotonous driving situations. The Mazda2 is just the opposite as this little car is filled with style as evident by some of the extreme optional paint colors.
Up front the Mazda2 still has the happy face bumper treatment that many Mazda's vehicles share. Going forward though; look for a more aggressive look as evident by the new 2014 Mazda6 redesign. There are some sporty touches with the lower lip on the front fascia and the sharp looking headlights. The 2013 Mazda2 share a lot of the design elements seen on its larger siblings like the puffed out fenders and the side character line. This car also gets 15-inch alloy wheels standard. Out back the roof spoiler finishes off a pretty exciting exterior look for the subcompact car class.
Under the hood is a 1.5 liter MZR 4-cylinder engine capable of producing 100 horsepower and 98 lb-ft. of torque. That may not sound like much but keep in mind the 2013 Mazda2 is a feather weight at just over 2300 lbs. Fuel economy is great at 29 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway with the 5-speed manual.
The interior is almost the opposite as the exterior. The inside of the Mazda2 is simple and minimalistic. But again this is the most entry level vehicle Mazda makes so we are not expecting much. Surprisingly the 2013 Mazda2 does come with some nice features including: BlueTooth, IPod connectivity, Steering wheel controls, air conditioning, and nice comfortable seats.

2013 Kia Rio Sedan Test Drive & Compact Car Video Review
http://www.autobytel.com/kia/rio/2013/ The Kia Rio is one of the lowest priced cars on the market today. In the past the Rio was known as a simple form of transportation that was really only good as a daily driver. But recently Kia gave the Rio a thorough redesign and the results speak for themselves. Now the Rio is one of the best looking cars in the subcompact class and it also offers some of the best standard and features. The new 2013 Kia Rio sedan has a base price of $13,600.
The Kia Rio used to be the joke of the sub-compact segment. The car was not very good-looking, the handling wasn't great, and the power was weak. But it was a cheap set of wheels that had good fuel economy ratings. Now though, thanks to Peter Schreyer the Chief of Design for Kia, the Rio is one of the better looking cars in the sub-compact segment. The 2013 Kia Rio is available in 2 different body styles; a 5-door hatchback and a 4-door sedan. The sedan is much better looking as everything integrates nicely on the exterior. There is plenty of trunk space out back and the car drives pretty well.
Kia has made a great commitment to direct-injection technology. Under the hood of the 2013 Kia Rio lives a 1.6 liter direct-injection GDi 4-cylinder engine that makes 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft. of torque. You can opt for either a manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Fuel economy figures are 29 MPG in the city and 37 MPG on the highway.
With a starting price of under $18k for the top of the line model, you can really get some great standard features and by upgrading to the Premium Package you can get a push-button start, leather seating, and a navigation unit with a 7-inch screen. These are great amenities for an entry level compact car. There are a lot of great cars in this segment and when you combine a nice 100k mile warranty along with the new exterior design, the Rio is certainly a great choice for a sub-compact car.
