Tunguska Explosion 30 July 1908
At 7:17 AM on the morning of June 30, 1908, a mysterious explosion occurred in the skies over Siberia. It was caused by the impact and breakup of a large meteorite, at an altitude roughly six kilometers in the atmosphere. Realistic pictures of the event are unavailable. However, Russian scientists collected eyewitness accounts of the event. I believe that we now know enough about large impacts to "decode" the subjective descriptions of the witnesses and create realistic views of this historic asteroid impact as seen from different distances.

The 1908 London Olympics
A specially compiled selection of extracts from surviving footage of Track & Field and Marathon events during London's first ever stint as host city.
The 1908 Olympics had been awarded to Rome, but due to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in April 1906 London was selected as an alternative. Twenty-two nations competed in 110 events, opening on 27th April and closing on 31st October.
Track & Field events, held at the specially built White City stadium, were captured in the first part of this film, which illustrates the multitude of sports taking place simultaneously: archery, shot putt, high jump and discus alongside tug-of-war, gymnastics, swimming and water polo, with the cyclists sweeping past on the track in the background.
The 1908 Olympic marathon took place in sweltering heat, leading to one of the most dramatic race finishes in the history of the Games. Race leader Dorando Pietri, struggling to stay on his feet as he neared the finish line, was famously disqualified for the assistance he received. This marathon would prove significant for another reason, as the distance from Windsor Castle to White City - 26 miles and 385 yards - would be adopted as the standard race length from 1924. U.S. Child Labor, 1908-1920
A look at child labor in the early 20th century in the United States as represented through the photography of Lewis W. Hine. The film documents the use of child labor in industry, including the exploitation of children and the lower classes in American society. Many of the jobs were extremely dangerous and numerous children and adults were injured or killed in the attempt to advance in society. The viewer must understand the context of the situation at the time and think of the individuals from the perspective that it could be one of their ancestors, in order to fully grasp the emotion of the video.

London 1908 Olympic Games Highlights
The 1908 Olympic Games were originally awarded to Rome, but were reassigned to London when it became apparent that Rome would not be ready. Despite the short notice, the Games were exceptionally well organised. For the first time, a stadium was specially prepared for the Games, and swimming events did not take place in the open water.
The Organising Committee fixed the distance of the marathon at 42km and 195m, the last 195 metres being added on to ensure the race finished below the royal box in the London stadium. This distance became official from the 1924 Games onwards.

Fantasmagorie (1908) First Cartoon Ever
Fantasmagorie is an 1908 French animated film by Émile Cohl. It is one of the earliest examples of traditional (hand-drawn) animation, and considered by film historians to be the first animated cartoon. The film largely consists of a stick figure moving about and encountering all manner of morphing objects, such as a wine bottle that transforms into a flower. There were also sections of live action where the animator's hands would enter the scene. The main character is drawn by the artist's hand on camera, and the main characters are a clown and a gentleman.
The film, in all of its wild transformations, is a direct tribute to the by-then forgotten Incoherent movement. The title is a reference to the "fantasmograph", a mid-Nineteenth Century variant of the magic lantern that projected ghostly images that floated across the walls.
Cohl worked on "Fantasmagorie" from February to either May or June 1908. Despite the short running time, the piece was packed with material devised in a "stream of consciousness" style. The film was released on August 17, 1908.
The film was created by drawing each frame on paper and then shooting each frame onto negative film, which gave the picture a blackboard look.
It was made up of 700 drawings, each of which was double-exposed (animated "on twos"), leading to a running time of almost two minutes. It borrowed from J. Stuart Blackton, the "chalk-line effect"; filming black lines on white paper, then reversing the negative to make it look like white chalk on a black chalkboard. Blackton and Cohl also borrowed some technics from Georges Méliès, such as the stop trick.

Big Bang in Tunguska - Documentary on the mysterious 1908 event - Full
The Tunguska event, or Tunguska blast or Tunguska explosion, was an enormously powerful explosion that occurred near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in what is now Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, at about 7:14 a.m. KRAT (0:14 UT) on June 30 [O.S. June 17, 1908.
The explosion is believed to have been caused by the air burst of a large meteoroid or comet fragment at an altitude of 5--10 kilometres (3--6 mi) above the Earth's surface. Different studies have yielded varying estimates of the object's size, with general agreement that it was a few tens of metres across.
The number of scholarly publications on the problem of the Tunguska explosion since 1908 may be estimated at about 1,000 (mainly in Russian). Many scientists have participated in Tunguska studies, the best-known of them being Leonid Kulik, Yevgeny Krinov, Kirill Florensky, Nikolai Vladimirovich Vasiliev and Wilhelm Fast.
Although the meteoroid or comet burst in the air rather than hitting the surface, this event is still referred to as an impact. Estimates of the energy of the blast range from 5 to as high as 30 megatons of TNT (21--130 PJ), with 10--15 megatons of TNT (42--63 PJ) the most likely—roughly equal to the United States' Castle Bravo thermonuclear bomb tested on March 1, 1954, about 1,000 times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, and about one-third the power of the Tsar Bomba, the largest nuclear weapon ever detonated. The explosion knocked over an estimated 80 million trees covering 2,150 square kilometres (830 sq mi). It is estimated that the shock wave from the blast would have measured 5.0 on the Richter scale. An explosion of this magnitude is capable of destroying a large metropolitan area. This possibility has helped to spark discussion of asteroid deflection strategies.
The Tunguska event is the largest impact event over land in Earth's recent history. Impacts of similar size over remote ocean areas would most likely have gone unnoticed before the advent of global satellite monitoring in the 1960s and 1970s.

The film is in four parts. First, the camera pans the Kremlin and Marshal's Bridge. Sleds are parked in rows. Horse-drawn sleighs run up and down a busy street. Next, we visit the mushroom and fish market where common people work and shop. In Petrovsky Park are the well-to-do. Men are in great coats. A file of six or seven women ski past on a narrow lane. Last, there's a general view of Moscow. A slow pan takes us to a view above the river front where the film began.

Some moving real world images from the 1908 Wollensak Cine-Velostigmat f5 lens.
This is a mix of natural lighting, cine style lighting, hand held, the Kessler Pocket dolley and tripod work. Much of this was shot to see what this lens can do in real conditions, and where its strengths and weaknesses are. What it adds, what it loses is in my opinion what makes this glass unique. This motion test is a precursor to an upcoming film project. enjoy....

Niskayuna, NY 12309 Police pointing spotlight at us.
My name is Peter Landy, since 2001 we live inside a Niskayuna, NY community watch area controlled by means of organized gang stalking in coordination of Niskayuna, NY Police and the civilians "endowed" with the privilege to place anyone they don't like on their clandestine blacklist.
For the record my address is 1908 Dean St, Niskayuna, NY 12309
This video, taken on 5/13/2011 almost 3am, illustrates Niskayuna, NY Police menacing me with their spotlight to warn me I've been given the dubious honor of being on their target list. As one their officer bragged that "We do things differently here" - which I take as operating outside of rules, regulation and court of justice. This harassment campaign is going on right now and it's intense!
Note Correction: Near the end of this video a caption refers to my meeting with the Police originally referred as Chief Deputy which is an error the correct title is Deputy Chief.
All comments are welcomed!

Review: the Schwarzlose 1908 blow-forward 32acp pistol
(NOTE: I fire a few rounds at around 9:20 in this video.)
It may look like a run-of-the-mill old German pocket pistol, but the Schwarzlose 1908 is actually quite unique. It uses an unusual blow-forward mechanism, similar to only two other guns, the Japanese Hino Komuro and the Austrian Mannlicher 1894. Recoil in the gun is surprisingly sharp and painful, although muzzle flip is minimal. They are surprisingly hard to find, and I've never seen one in this kind of condition.
