Full interview with Sixto Rodriguez and Malik Bendjelloul here: bit.ly The Weekly Comet hosts Tamara Conniff and Jonathan McHugh present an exclusive performance with singer/songwriter Rodriguez, who is the subject of the Oscar winning "Searching for Sugar Man." Sixto Rodriguez' story is truly inspirational. A native of Detroit, in the 1970s he recorded two albums which went largely unnoticed in the US He hung up his guitar and went to work in construction for 30 years. However, unbeknownst to Rodriguez his albums gained popularity internationally, going platinum in South Africa and becoming the anthem of resistance in the Apartheid-era. Director Malik Bendjelloul's "Searching for Sugar Man" chronicles the journey of two fans on a mission to find out what had happened to Rodriguez, who was rumored to have committed suicide. Rodriguez performs his world famous hit "Sugar man" Chords to Sugar Man: sugarman.org Lyrics: Sugar man, won't you hurry 'Cause I'm tired of these scenes For a blue coin won't you bring back All those colors to my dreams Silver magic ships you carry Jumpers, coke, sweet Mary Jane Sugar man met a false friend On a lonely dusty road Lost my heart when I found it It had turned to dead black coal. Rodriguez - Can't Get Away
Artist: Rodriguez Song Title: Can't Get Away Album: Coming From Reality (2009 CD re-issue edition) Label: Sussex / Light In The Attic Year: 1971 / 2009 Country: USA The Track appears as a bonus track on the 2009 CD re-issue of Coming From Reality. Sixto Diaz Rodriguez (also known as Rodriguez or as Jesus Rodriguez; born July 10, 1942) is a Mexican-American folk musician, born in Detroit, Michigan. He was named 'Sixto' (pronounced six-toe) because he was the sixth child in his family. Rodriguez's parents were middle-class immigrants from Mexico, who left in the 1920s. In most of his songs he takes a political stance on the cruelties facing the inner city poor. Rodriguez career initially proved short-lived with two albums in the early 1970s and some brief touring in Australia. Unknown to him however, his work proved extremely successful and influential in South Africa, although he was mistakenly rumored in that country to be dead by suicide. In the 1990s, determined South African fans managed to seek out and contact him, leading to an unexpected revival of his musical career. Their story is told in the 2012 documentary, Searching for Sugar Man, which has helped give Rodriguez a measure of fame in his native country. - Wikipedia

Sixto Rodriguez - Cause [1971]
The Official Rodriguez Website: www.sugarman.org Lyrics Cause I lost my job two weeks before Christmas And I talked to Jesus at the sewer And the Pope said it was none of his God-damned business While the rain drank champagne My Estonian Archangel came and got me wasted Cause the sweetest kiss I ever got is the one I've never tasted Oh but they'll take their bonus pay to Molly McDonald, Neon ladies, beauty is that which obeys, is bought or borrowed Cause my heart's become a crooked hotel full of rumours But it's I who pays the rent for these fingered-face out-of-tuners and I make 16 solid half hour friendships every evening Cause your queen of hearts who is half a stone And likes to laugh alone is always threatening you with leaving Oh but they play those token games on Willy Thompson And give a medal to replace the son of Mrs. Annie Johnson Cause they told me everybody's got to pay their dues And I explained that I had overpaid them So overdued I went to the company store and the clerk there said that they had just been invaded So I set sail in a teardrop and escaped beneath the doorsill Cause the smell of her perfume echoes in my head still Cause I see my people trying to drown the sun In weekends of whiskey sours Cause how many times can you wake up in this comic book and plant flowers?

The Robert Rodriguez: 10 Minute Film School (The 1st & Original)
Robert Rodriguez: Ten Minute Film School (1993) Taken From "Moving Pictures". Director: Philip Day Writer: Philip Day Stars: Philip Day, Dermott O'Leary and Robert Rodriguez. Original Air Date: 1993 "Moving Pictures" was a television series devoted to film that aired on BBC 2 (United Kingdom) from 1991 to 1996. It was presented by Rock Follies screenwriter Howard Schuman. Each program was composed of several short films on different cinematic subjects and not necessarily on current releases. Although it never achieved high ratings, "Moving Pictures" was frequently used to teach film studies. Interviewed on the set of Pulp Fiction, Quentin Tarantino told John Travolta it was the best show about movies on television. Director Mike Figgis credited a film about himself with salvaging his career after it showed the other side of the story regarding the making of his film Mr. Jones. The series finished in 1996, largely due to the huge cost of paying for film clips. This episode gives movie maverick, Robert Rodriguez, the opportunity to teach a class of film students everything there is to know about filmmaking in just ten minutes. This is the first of the '10 minute film school' segments that Robert Rodriguez does for all his films. This video was broadcasted in 1993. If anyone have a better picture image of this video please contact me. Watch and learn. Thanks.
