1963 TV Concert: 'It's The Beatles' Live

Live, television: It's The Beatles 3.45pm, Saturday 7 December 1963 Following their appearance on the BBC television show Juke Box Jury, The Beatles recorded a special concert appearance for the corporation at Liverpool's Empire Theatre. The performance took place in front of 2,500 members of The Beatles' Northern Area Fan Club, between 3.45 and 4.30pm. It was filmed in its entirety by the BBC, and 30 minutes were broadcast that evening from 8.10pm to 8.40pm during a special programme entitled It's The Beatles. The group played a short version of From Me To You, followed by I Saw Her Standing There, All My Loving, Roll Over Beethoven, Boys, Till There Was You, She Loves You, This Boy, I Want To Hold Your Hand, Money (That's What I Want), Twist And Shout, and another version of From Me To You. Technical problems and lack of rehearsal times meant the sound balance for the concert recording was sub-standard. Both The Beatles and senior figures at the BBC later expressed concern at the often embarrassing nature of the footage, which included the absence of Ringo vocals during Boys and the director focusing on the wrong members of the group during key moments. After the concert the BBC also recorded a two-minute interview with the group to use on the Christmas Day edition of Top Of The Pops. The Beatles then made the short journey to the nearby Odeon Cinema on London Road where they gave two evening concerts. The police closed Pudsey Street to the public to allow the group to reach the venue unhindered.

The shows took place at 5.15pm and 9pm. The second show was filmed by German television network Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF), and followed a brief afternoon rehearsal set for the cameras. The footage was shown as Die Beatles on channel two on Tuesday 5 July, from 8-8.45pm. Also appearing on the bill were Cliff Bennett and The Rebel Rousers, The Rattles and Peter and Gordon. The German leg of the tour was known as the Bravo Blitztournee, and was sponsored by the entertainment magazine Bravo.

The Beatles had a break from their Autumn Tour, and spent the afternoon at the Granada television studios in Manchester filming a performance and interview for the Late Scene Extra and Scene At 6.30 programmes. They mimed to two songs: their forthcoming single I Want To Hold Your Hand and its b-side This Boy. The backdrop of the stage set contained enlarged fictitious headlines from the Daily Echo. The interview took place on the same set, and was conducted by presenter Gay Byrne. The Beatles were joined by Liverpudlian comedian Ken Dodd. The footage was used in the 27 November edition of Late Scene Extra, which was broadcast from 11.45pm to midnight, and in the 20 December edition of Scene At 6.30.

The audio quality has been cleaned up to the best of my abilities, having listened to it multiple times for any possible flaws I could detect. As of now, this is the largest, longest, and most complicated restoration video I've done to date. Also, I felt that video footage from the concert could not be used due to the fact that there was enough audio removed that it would not sync up and look out of place. In addition, the concert was originally going to be broken up into several videos, but I felt it could work better if it had one continuous flow; without disruption, so as to not break away from the (concert's) overall experience. However, I made sure to section up each song individually by putting in the times at which they are played, so as to give the option of jumping ahead to listen to any particular song if or whenever desired. Bare in mind, I could not have worked on each instrument or vocals individually, since I do not have access to the master tracks, so I had to work with the audio that I had as a whole. Therefore, it's not going to be perfect, but I did everything I could to get it to sound the best I could with what I had to use. Cleaning up wise, I lifted up the audio by using hard limiting, volume control for audio that spiked up in sound, click/pop removal, hiss reduction, fading in/out, delay for polished sound and echo, and other various tools. Most of the time was spent on editing. I also did not reuse audio from previous videos I restored of some of these songs. They are completely redone in this one. Each song was worked on and edited individually, as well as any audio and conversations in between. I also made sure that any audio removed, which there was quite a bit of due to the fact that there were moments that it just seemed either pointless or boring or just dragged on for far too long, would have smooth transition and not even be noticeable. However, there are moments where the audio sounds like it's going in and out during discussions on the roof, but they were originally there, so they are not the result of poor editing (just to make sure if someone points it out). Well, I hope the wait was worth it to you guys, and that you enjoy a trip down memory lane, but in a new way. Peace and Love!

Up until 1968, each Beatles album was given a unique mono and stereo mix, but the group always regarded the mono as primary. While The Beatles In Mono CD boxed set released in 2009 was created from digital remasters, for this new vinyl project, Magee and Berkowitz cut the records without using any digital technology. Instead, they employed the same procedures used in the 1960s, guided by the original albums and by detailed transfer notes made by the original cutting engineers.

O coro Auscultate é bem conhecido junto aos fãs de Canto Gregoriano, principalmente por seu trabalho em discos temáticos com a obra de Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Celine Dion, Love Ballads, Rock Ballads, Love Songs, etc. Ao visitar as músicas magníficas de Lennon & McCartney neste CD "The Songs of The Beatles" , lançado em 2000, o Auscultate (Gregorian Chants) escolheu muito acertadamente as músicas que entrariam no álbum. Então ocorre uma fusão da universalidade e da beleza da música de ambos, com a magia, a espiritualidade, a mística e o relaxamento que esta forma de canto medieval sugere. Quer saber mais sobre o Canto Gregoriano? Formado por cânticos judaicos e gregos na origem, este canto foi colocado como o único possível de ser utilizado nos rituais católicos durante séculos. Ele é um tipo de canto litúrgico monofônico, realizado em uníssono por um coro, geralmente praticado por monges, acompanhando sua melodia as palavras bíblicas. Embora isso não ocorra neste disco, nesse tipo de canto não há nenhum acompanhamento instrumental ou, no máximo, o acompanhamento de um órgão. O canto Gregoriano jamais poderá ser entendido sem o texto, o qual tem primazia sobre a melodia, e é quem dá sentido a esta. Por isso, ao interpretá-lo, os cantores devem haver compreendido bem o sentido dele. Em consequência, deve-se evitar qualquer impostação de voz de tipo operístico, em que se busca o destaque do intérprete. Praticadas durante séculos em clausura, por detrás dos espessos muros dos mosteiros, as melodias singelas, porém penetrantes, ganharam popularidade novamente, fascinando até mesmo quem pouco ou nada tem a ver com Igreja ou religião. Em 1986, o lançamento da versão cinematográfica do romance de Umberto Eco “O Nome da Rosa”, cuja trilha sonora era composta exclusivamente de música gregoriana, desencadeou uma enorme onda de interesse. Nas décadas seguintes, numerosos cineastas, sobretudo dos gêneros fantasia e ficção científica, exploraram a força evocativa desse estilo musical. Exemplos especialmente bem sucedidos comercialmente são Peter Jackson, em sua trilogia “O Senhor dos Anéis” ou George Lucas, na série “Guerra nas Estrelas”. Recorded and released in 1970, the album was Harrison's first solo work since the break-up of The Beatles in April that year. The original vinyl release featured two LPs of rock songs as well as Apple Jam, a third disc of informal jams. Often credited as rock's first triple album, it was in fact the first by a single act, the multi-artist Woodstock live set having preceded it by six months. In regards to the album's size, Harrison stated: "I didn't have many tunes on Beatles records, so doing an album like All Things Must Pass was like going to the bathroom and letting it out." The album was critically acclaimed and, with long stays at number 1 in both the US and the UK, commercially successful. It was certified 6x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2001 This is the complete version of the 40th Anniversary edition, which was released in November 2010.
