Franklin - Franklin & The Fortune Teller
Franklin's friends start to get excited because of Beaver's new toy, a spinning top. Beaver soon becomes convinced that the toy can tell everyone's future. Everyone joins in, except Franklin who spends his time at home, away from his friends because of his disbelief in it. When Franklin finally decides to try it, Beaver comes up with predictions about Franklin's next day, which ends up to be false information.

Clip from the 50s Disney cartoon, Ben and Me.
Many people today who believe the amended story of Franklin's kite experiment grew up immersed in the revisionist history of Walt Disney, whose classic cartoon Ben and Me portrayed Franklin not only as having flown the kite in a thunderstorm, but also having been a complete fucking jerk. While few people still believe that all of Franklin's innovations are actually attributable to his pet mouse, the kite story is still widely accepted despite the unfortunate testimonies of anyone who's ever been stupid enough to replicate it.

It tells the story of Amos, a poor mouse (voiced by -- who else? -- Sterling Holloway), who is truly responsible for all of Benjamin Franklin's innovations in the 1740s, from the bifocals to the printing press, from the lightning rod to the furnace stove. Their relationship is electric, but rewarding (at least for Franklin). Years later, Amos reunites with Franklin to help America frame the Constitution. Sure, this entirely robs one of the most revered founding fathers of his agency, but it's all in good fun and it's a charming, clever little tale.

CONFIDENCE - 1933 Cartoon, with Oswald the Rabbit and President Franklin Roosevelt
Here's something really unusual, a cartoon that features the classic character of Oswald the Rabbit and the President of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt. This cartoon was released in 1933, and it contains a very a accurate reflection of (1) the fear that covered the United States prior to the election of President Roosevelt, and (2) the renewed confidence that the American people felt after he took office. Neat animation where the depression ghost sweeps over the world, creepily realistic. Of course, the Great Depression of the 1930s took a few more years to come to an end, but this cartoon may have helped to bring the improved national mood that eventually defeated it. Also, in today's economic climate, a cartoon like this might be helpful thing to lift our nation's current mood and outlook. Just like in 1933, we should be hoping our President succeeds, rather than trying to tear him down.

The text used for the narration of “Passing Through” is part of a speech Serbian scientist and inventor
Nicola Tesla delivered in 1893 at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Though today less known than
figures like Edison and Einstein, Tesla was more or less the father of much of our modern technology, since
he among other things developed the foundations of the European electrical system based on alternating
currents and the principles of wireless radio communication.
At the time he was deeply influenced by the Austrian physicist and philosopher Ernst Mach, believing
that the world should be conceived as a whole where everything is interconnected influencing each
other. And that energy is a force that runs through everything be it inorganic matter, organisms or human
consciousness. According to this line of thought every single action has universal consequences, not unlike
what the father of modern chaos theory Edward Lorenz in the 1960’s termed ‘the butterfly effect’.

"Like a wave in the physical world, in the infinite ocean of the medium which pervades all, so in the world of organisms, in life, an impulse started proceeds onward, at times, may be, with the speed of light, at times, again, so slowly that for ages and ages it seems to stay, passing through processes of a complexity inconceivable to men, but in all its forms, in all its stages, its energy ever and ever integrally present.
A single ray of light from a distant star falling upon the eye of a tyrant in bygone times may have altered the course of his life, may have changed the destiny of nations, may have transformed the surface of the globe, so intricate, so inconceivably complex are the processes in Nature. In no way can we get such an overwhelming idea of the grandeur of Nature than when we consider, that in accordance with the law of the conservation of energy, throughout the Infinite, the forces are in a perfect balance, and hence the energy of a single thought may determine the motion of a universe.”
