Middle distance running events are track races longer than sprints, up to 3000 metres. The standard middle distances are the 800 metres, 1500 metres and mile run, although the 3000 metres may also be classified as a middle distance event. The 880 yard run, or half mile, was the forebear to the 800 m distance and it has its roots in competitions in the United Kingdom in the 1830s. The 1500 m came about as a result of running three laps of a 500 m track, which was commonplace in continental Europe in the 20th century.
This middle distance length is rather uncommon, and is mainly run by sprinters wishing to test their endurances at a longer distance. Like other middle distance races, it evolved from the 600 yard race. The 600 m is also used as an early season stepping stone by 800 m runners before they have reached full race fitness. The record at this distance is for men:
For women:
The 800 m consists of two laps around a standard 400 m track, and has always been an Olympic event. In 1882, American Lon Myers set what was then a world record at 800 m, running it in 1:44.4. It was included in the first women's track programme in 1928, but suspended until 1960 because of shock and the exhaustion it caused the competitors. Without the benefits of modern training, men of the era were, in contrast, expected to run themselves to complete exhaustion during competitions[citation needed].
2000 (MM) was a leap year that started on a Saturday, in accordance with the Gregorian calendar. It was the 2000th year of the Common Era or the Anno Domini designation, and the last year of the 20th century and the 2nd millennium.
2000 was designated as:
The year 2000 was the first year of the 2000s decade. Popular culture holds the year 2000 as the first year of the 21st century and the 3rd millennium, due to a tendencial way to group the years according to decimal values, as if year zero were counted. According to the Gregorian calendar this distinction falls to the year 2001, because the 1st century was retroactively said to start with year AD 1. Since the calendar has no year zero, its first millennium spans from years 1 to 1000, inclusively, and its second millennium from years 1001 to 2000. (See more at Millennium.)
The year 2000 was the subject of Y2K concerns: fears that computers would not shift from 1999 to 2000 correctly. However, by the end of 1999, many companies had already converted to new, or upgraded their existing software. Some even obtained Y2K certification. As a result of massive effort, much of it mis-directed, relatively few problems occurred.
Hicham El Guerrouj "King of the Mile" (Moroccan Arabic: هشام الݣروج, born September 14, 1974, Berkane) is a Moroccan former middle distance runner. He is the current holder of the 1500 metres, mile and outdoor 2000 metres world records, as well as a double Olympic gold medalist. From about 1995 until his retirement from serious competition following the 2004 Olympics, he was the dominant middle distance runner of his day.
Hicham El Guerrouj's first international triumph was in 1992 at age 18, when he was 3rd in the 5000 metres of the 1992 Junior World Championships in Seoul, behind Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia.
In 1994, he was a member of the Moroccan team in the 1994 IAAF World Road Relay Championships, which won the race in world record time.
El Guerrouj rose to international prominence in the mid-1990s with near-record times in the 1500 metres and mile. At the age of 20 he finished second in the 1500 metres at the 1995 World Championships in Gothenburg. In 1996 after setting a new personal best over 1500 metres in 3:29.59 in Stockholm, he was considered one of the favourites for the Olympic gold.

Refrain:
Immer wenn ich dich gebraucht hab'
Wenn ich einsam war
Vater, du warst nie für mich da
Immer hast du mich vergessen
Doch ich kann dich nicht hassen
Vater, du warst nie für mich da
(Nie warst du für mich da - Nie warst du da)
Vater, du bist voller Schmerz, voll Gewalt
Kalt bis zum Erbrechen
Ich hab immer Angst, es knallt
Wütend wirst du zum Verbrecher
Wenn du zuviel gesoffen hast, kommt dein Haß
Der noch größer ist als dein Gestank
Vater, du machst mich krank
Ich weiß, du hast ein hartes Leben
Ohne Job und ohne Freunde
Die dir Liebe geben und Vertrauen
Deswegen mußt du nicht um dich hauen
Deinen Frust abbau'n, unser Leben versauen
Du kannst niemandem trau'n
Nicht mal Mama und mir, wenn du nicht überlegst
Was nicht tötet, härtet ab
Du warst niemals dein Freund, du hast Fehler gemacht
Ich hab viel wegen dir geweint, aber nie mit dir gelacht
Ich vermisse dich mein Vater
Denk nicht, ich bin ein Schwein
Vater, es ist nicht einfach, dein Sohn zu sein
Refrain
