The Ghost Breakers Trailer (1940) Bob Hope
Director: George Marshall
Stars: Bob Hope, Paulette Goddard and Richard Carlson
Ghosts and gags collide in this witches brew of laughs, with Bob Hope as a Manhattan radio commentator who finds himself marooned on an island of the walking dead! Larry Lawrence (Hope), sought in hiding in a steamer trunk. Soon the trunk (and Larry) are aboard a ship bound for Cuba where the trunk owner pretty Mary Carter (Paulette Goddard), is sailing to take possession of a recent inheritance: a Haunted castle. Sensing that Mary is in danger Larry and his valet Alex (Willie Best) precede her to the island which is inhabited by a ghost, zombie and perhaps even a flesh and blood fiend. There's romance, comedy and chills as Hope and Goddard commend with earthly and un-earthly foes and try to keep from ending up as ghosts themselves.

The Marshall Plan Speech (video presentation by the Marshall Foundation)
A video presentation by the George C. Marshall Foundation:
When Secretary of State Marshall accepted an invitation from Harvard to receive an honorary degree during the first week in June 1947, the State Department informed the president of the Alumni Association that Marshall would make a speech for the afternoon meeting of the Harvard Alumni Association but that Marshall did not want it to be a major speech of the occasion. There were no discussions with representatives of other governments; there were no notifications of the American press that an important speech was to be delivered, and even Harvard President James B. Conant did not expect a major address from General Marshall.
The speech was drafted by Chip Bohlen, a Russia specialist and interpreter who used memoranda from the Director of the Policy Planning Staff George F. Kennan and from Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs William Clayton. Bohlen especially benefited from Clayton's graphic oral descriptions of Europe's situation. In the memorandum he wrote, "Millions of people in the cities are slowly starving," if the standard of living continued to deteriorate, "there will be revolution."
On the day of the speech the capacity crowd of 15,000 in Harvard Yard did not expect to see history made but simply to see one of the most admired public servants in America. However when Secretary Marshall began to read his speech there was a recognition that the carefully worded remarks on the political and economic crisis in Europe marked an important event. In that speech, Marshall outlined the need for an economic aid plan to help the devastated nations of Europe and their citizens to recover from the ravages of World War II. When Marshall said, "It is logical that the United States should do whatever it is able to do to assist in the return of normal economic health in the world, without which there can be no political stability and no assured peace," the Secretary of State committed the United States to consider a European recovery plan that would be developed by the Europeans and presented to the United States. Thus was launched The Marshall Plan for which George C. Marshall would be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Le Dalia Bleu (1946) ~ {media gallery}
Not to be confused with the 1953 The Blue Gardenia or 2006 Black Dahlia (possibly the worst movie ever made), The Blue Dahlia (1946) was the film-noir adaptation of the Raymond Chandler novel. Director George Marshall paired Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake along with some comic relief from William Bendix to create a tight crime thriller. Future blacklistee Howard Di Silva also co-stars. Not to be missed. Own it someday on DVD as of yet it has not been released. Music by J.P. Banks Jr.

Pot 'o Gold ✪FREE FULL MOVIE✪ Musical starring James Stewart
Jimmy Stewart stars in "The Golden Hour" as a failed music shop owner who befriends a lively Irish family of musicians who just so happen to be the much-hated enemies of his music-hating uncle and boss. Jimmy works hard to try and help the family book gigs, reconcile them with his surly uncle, and win the heart of the beautiful Molly (Paulette Goddard) but does he have the luck of the Irish?
Background:
Pot o' Gold was radio's first big-money giveaway program, garnering huge ratings within four weeks of its 1939 debut. The program's success prompted production of the film. The premise of the radio program, created by Ed Byron, was that any person who picked up the telephone when host Horace Heidt called would automatically win $1000. Phone numbers were chosen by three spins on the Wheel of Fortune: (1) choice of phone directory, (2) page number and (3) the line on the page. The series ran on NBC from September 26, 1939 to December 23, 1941 and later a new show by the same name from October 2, 1946 to March 26, 1947 on ABC.
