Audain School of Visual Arts
It is with great pleasure that we announce a transformational gift of $5-million from BC arts philanthropist Michael Audain and his family foundation, the Audain Foundation for Visual Arts. This is the single largest individual donation the University has received and will be a cornerstone for the new Emily Carr Great Northern Way Campus.
The donation will create the Audain School of Visual Arts - an enhanced visual arts learning environment offering a studio-based education reflective of the diversity and complexity of contemporary art. The School will encompass the existing Faculty of Visual Art + Material Practice which houses Painting, Ceramics, Print Media, Illustration, Photography, Sculpture and Drawing.
The gift is in addition to a commitment made last year by Mr. Audain to establish the Audain Distinguished Artist in Residence Program that will launch in Fall 2013.

Creative Classrooms Visual Arts Program: Promotional / fundraising video, New York, 2010.
Since 1997 the Creative Classrooms Visual Arts Program (CCVAP) has promoted art and literacy in inner-city Catholic elementary schools. Administered by the Patrons Program which brings educational enrichment opportunities to selected schools, CCVAP fosters learning and creativity. It introduces students to the arts and engages them in creating, reflecting, discussing and writing about art. The program is not a mere add-on to classroom subjects. It is a powerful learning tool that provides students with visual, tactile, and aesthetic experiences that encourage hands-on learning and critical thinking. Consisting of five components, CCVAP includes everything from art instruction to teacher training to museum visits.
CCVAP reaches over 10,995 inner-city students attending Catholic elementary schools in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. Its schools are 35% non-Catholic and 93% minority. Seventy percent of the students come from families living at or below the federal poverty level and over half are from single parent households. One hundred percent of Catholic elementary school students go on to high school, 99% of those who attend Catholic high schools graduate, and 92% of those go on to higher education. Tuition at approximately $3,000 per child is the main source of revenue in the Archdiocese elementary schools. Robust art and music programs are unaffordable without outside support.

Hey Youtube arts community. Its Merrill from kazanjianm. Since Youtube does not have a specific channel type for visual arts, I decided to list the top 25 visual art channels on youtube. I spent the last few days putting in every visual arts related search term and my ranking system is based on the number of subscribers that a channel has. So here is the list. We are going to count down from 25. Click on the channel name to visit the channel.
At number 25 is the youtube channel for Banksy, possibly the most famous visual artist in the world. 18619At number 24 is AirbrushTricks a channel that you could learn airbrush tricks. 20,024At number 23 is Bashirsultani . This dude is a salt artist. And I thought pencil drawing raised your blood pressure! 20,807The number 22 channel is Igor Kazarin's PortraitDrawing. Igor does not instruct but his dry brush portraits are unbelievable. 23,894The number 21 channel is me! Kazanjianm. Im a visual artist and a teacher and I have taught thousands of people how to draw with my step by step videos. Note to the top 20, im coming to get you sucka! 24,701
The number 20 channel is Matthew39Arch. This guy is a professor at a major art school and does some great instruction on his channel. The number 19 channel is PhilintheCircle. This guy makes art with everything. He has ridiculous talent and he makes very engaging videos. He is best known for his Goodbye art series. The number 18 channel is Sycra. He has been posting videos since youtube was a baby channel and he probably doesn't know that he made the prototype for art instruction on Youtube. Before I started posting videos, I used Sycra's channel as a supplement in my own classroom. And after I saw the effect of my students drawing from his videos, I decided to post my own instructional videos. He is also an amazing caricature artist.
At number 17 is Cholowiz13. He has the title as youtubes most famous graffiti artist. This is especially impressive whe n you consider that Banksy comes in at #25. The number 16 art channel is Sophiechan90. She is a manga artist who is a virtuoso with Copic illustration markers.
The number15 channel is called notblu. This channel documents the work of the artist Blu who merges graffiti with stop motion animation. Almost all of the videos on this channel approach over one million views.
The number 14 channel is a channel that I found recently called SoCraftastic. Sarah Takacs instructs on a wide range of art and craft related topics and its always a guess, what is going to be covered next. It's a really fun channel.
The number 13 channel is Idrawgirls. Xia is a retired illustrator who is famous for his digital artwork. He is really generous as a teacher and covers a wide range of topics. The name of the channel is I draw girls but he draws dudes too. Its really great for people who want to learn digital art, portraiture and figure drawing.Coming in at number 12 is Chris Scalf's channel CGSBGS. This guy is a top notch illustrator who is responsible for several viral art videos.Coming in at number 11 is Youtube's fastest growing art channel, CartoonBlock. Evan Burse is a professional cartoonist who has worked on Scooby Doo and Batman. He brings his talents and professional connections to CartoonBlock. On his channel you learn how to draw, as well as gain insights to working in the cartoon industry. Evan is a natural teacher who makes his videos fun.The number 10 channel is spray paint virtuoso Brandon McConnell at spacepainter. He not only documents his amazing spray paint artwork, he can also teach you how to rip a phone book in half.
Val's Art Diary comes in at number 9. It is one of the oldest art channels on youtube and it has vlogs and time lapse artwork from Val. Shes got a really cool accent. Just like me.Macpulenta is the number 8 art channel on Youtube and is number one in the country of Argentina. NICO Di MATTIA is an artist who has captivated the world with his photo realistic digital paintings of celebrities and although he hasn't posted recently, remains one of youtubes top art stars.

A Short Animation Inspired by the Works of İlhan Koman
Plato Art Space is proud to present Candaş Şişman’s video dedicated to famous sculptor İlhan Koman produced for the exhibition İlhan Koman: Hulda Festival, a Journey into Art and Science opening on the 22nd September, 2010.
İlhan Koman’s unique design approach in his form studies also inspires contemporary art works. The video installation Flux by young artist Candaş Şişman can be defined as a digital animation which is inspired from the structural features of some of İlhan Koman’s works like Pi, 3D Moebius, Whirlpool and To Infinity... A red circle, which is colored in reference to the red radiators of Ogre, is traced in a morphological transformation which re-interprets the formal approach of Koman’s works. The continuous movement sometimes connotes the formal characteristics of Pi, 3D Moebius, Whirlpool and To Infinity..., as well as the original formal interpretations of the design principles of the works . In Flux, Koman’s design process in the making of the Pi series has been treated as the emerging of a sphere from a two-dimensional circle by the principle of increasing the surface; and that simple direction is re-interpreted in digital medium. Thanks to this, in the digital animation an entirely different form serial that does not resemble Pi yet remaining its design principle can be followed through the flow of a circle to the sphere. As a conscious attitude of the artist, this work is not designed in a direct visual analogy with Koman’s works. During the animation, none of the moments of the transforming form look like Pi or 3D Moebius, however the subjective reading of Koman’s approach can be observed.
With the integration of the sounds of various materials – which Koman used in his sculptures – Flux turns into an impressive spatial experience. Flux, also exemplifies that Koman’s work can be re-interpreted by the analysis and manipulation of form in the digital medium.

The goal of giving form to a complex situation like the credit crisis is to quickly supply the essence of the situation to those unfamiliar and uninitiated. This project was completed as part of my thesis work in the Media Design Program, a graduate studio at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

"How it would be, if a house was dreaming"
The conception of this project consistently derives from its underlying architecture - the theoretic conception and visual pattern of the Hamburg Kunsthalle. The Basic idea of narration was to dissolve and break through the strict architecture of O. M. Ungers "Galerie der Gegenwart". Resultant permeabilty of the solid facade uncovers different interpretations of conception, geometry and aesthetics expressed through graphics and movement. A situation of reflexivity evolves - describing the constitution and spacious perception of this location by means of the building itself.
