Synopsis: Humkadam is the story of a middle-class family in a big city going through severe financial strains which threaten to break it down. Shekhar Gupta, a head-clerk in a private firm, faces a financial crisis when his father - a retired school master in village - comes to stay with him in Bombay. His limited income is not enough to meet the needs of the entire family: Shekhar and his wife Indu; his father, mother, sister and a kid.After mutual discussions, the couple decides on Indu's taking up a job to bolster their tottering economy. Raghunath - Shekhar's father - is an old-fashioned man and he does not approve of his daughter-in-law going out in search of a career. Indu goes ahead and gets a job of a door-to-door saleswoman. At first, she finds the job difficult. Then slowly she picks up the tricks of the trade and succeeds in earning handsome commission over and above her salary. Towards the end of a month, when Indu brings her pay-packet home, all are happy - except Shekhar's father, Raghunath.Gradually, as Indu's career picks up, she is unable to devote as much time to the household and its members as before. Raghunath, who resents Indu's late-comings, succeeds in arousing his son, Shekhar's suspicion about Indu. This leads to frequent quarrels between the husband and wife culminating in Shekhar's command to Indu to resign from her job. Later, however, when Indu was about to tender her resignation, Shekhar telephones her not to do so, because the firm he was working for had closed down and he was jobless. A new phase of suffering starts. Shekhar, frustrated, sulks and drifts away from Indu. Misunderstanding grows. Shekhar becomes allergic to even genuine sympathy from Indu. The relations get strained. One little thing leads to another and finally one day they both burst out. In the evening when Indu returns, she does not find Shekhar at home. Biography of Helen
Helen Jairag Richardson is an Indian film actress and dancer of Anglo-Burmese descent, working in Hindi bollywood films. She was born on November 21, 1939 in Burma to an Anglo-Indian father and Burmese mother. She has a brother Roger and a sister Jennifer. Her father died during the Second World War. The family migrated to Mumbaiin 1943 in order to escape the Japanese occupation of Burma. Helen had to quit her schooling to support her family because her mother's salary as a nurse was not enough to feed a family of four. In a documentary called 'Queen of the Nautch girls', Helen said she was 17 yrs old in 1957 when she got her first big break in Howrah Bridge.
Helen was introduced to Bollywood when a family friend, an actress known as Cukoo, helped her find jobs as a chorus dancer in the films Shabistan and Awaara (1951). Helen got her break in 1958 when she performed the song "Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu" in Shakti Samanta's film,Howrah Bridge, which was sung by Geeta Dutt. After that, offers started pouring in throughout the 1960s and 1970s. During her initial career, Geeta Dutt sang many songs for her. The Bollywood playback singer Asha Bhoslealso frequently sang for Helen, particularly during the 1960s and the early 70's. She was nominated for the Filmfare best supporting actress award in 1965 for her role in Gumnaam.
Writer Salim Khan helped her get roles in some of the films he was co-scripting with Javed Akhtar: Imaam Dharam,Don, Dostana, and Sholay. This was followed by a role in Mahesh Bhatt's film Lahu Ke Do Rang (1979), for which she won a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. In 1999 Helen was given India's Filmfare lifetime achievement award.Helen officially retired from movies in 1983, but she has since then appeared in a few guest roles such asKhamoshi: The Musical (1996) and Mohabbatein (2000). She also made a special appearance as the mother of real-life step-son Salman Khan's character in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Helen was selected for the Padma Shri awards of 2009 along with Aishwarya Raiand Akshay Kumar.

Vyjayanthimala Bali (born on 13 August 1936, in present day Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India) is an Indian actress of the 1950s and '60s, who won a large number of awards for her acting and classical dancing achievements. Following her cinema career, she entered Indian politics, and became a Member of Parliament.
Born in Madras in a Tamil family; she did her schooling at Sacred Heart Church Park Convent, Chennai. She trained in Bharatnatyam, a South Indian genre of classical dancing.
At the age of 5, Vyjayanthimala got the rare chance of performing a dance before the Pope. At age 15, she got a break in AVM Productions Tamil movie, Vazhkai, which was directed by M. V. Raman, a family friend. The movie was a success, and was remade in Hindi as Bahaar (1951). She acted in a few more Tamil movies before moving on to a highly successful career in Hindi movies..................
She costarred with Dev Anand in Jewel Thief, with Rajendra Kumar in Suraj, with Shammi Kapoor in Prince, and with Kishore Kumar in his inane yet zany comedies,including the blockbuster New Delhi. Vyjayanthimala's Tamil movies included Vanjikottai Valiban, Irumbuthirai, Then Nilavu, Vaazhkai, Penn, Parthiban Kanavu (old), and Baghdad Thirudan.............
Vyjayanthimala married Dr. Chamanlal Bali. After marriage, she terminated her acting career and moved to Chennai. She has a son, Suchindra Bali, by Dr. Bali. After she moved to Chennai, she entered politics as a member of the Lok Sabha (lower house). Later, she was nominated as a member of the Rajya Sabha (upper house). In 2007, she published her autobiography, titled Bonding, with Jyoti Sabarwal as co-writer.............

Helen also performed numerous stage shows in London, Paris, and Hong Kong.
In 1973, Helen, Queen of the Nautch Girls, a 30-minute documentary film from Merchant Ivory Films, was released. Anthony Korner directed and narrated the film. A book about Helen was published by Jerry Pinto in 2006, titled The Life and Times of an H-Bomb, which went on to win the National Film Award for Best Book on Cinema in 2007.
Helen married Salim Khan, and became his second wife in 1980. They adopted a girl, Arpita. The Indian film actor Salman Khan is her step-son.....
