David Robert Jones (8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016), known as David Bowie (/ˈboʊ.i/), was an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, painter, and actor. He was a figure in popular music for over five decades, and was considered by critics and musicians as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s. His career was marked by reinvention and visual presentation, and his music and stagecraft significantly impacted popular music. During his lifetime, he sold an estimated 140 million records worldwide. In the UK, he was awarded nine platinum album certifications, eleven gold and eight silver, and released eleven number-one albums. In the US, he received five platinum and seven gold certifications. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
A couple of 60's cinema ads for Lyons Maid's Banana Choc and Toff 'N Choc Sundae ice creams, discovered by Chriddof on one of his previously closed accounts.
1980s Lyons Maid ice lolly advert with Su Pollard and Elizabeth Estensen.
http://www.sheffieldretiredgreyhounds.co.uk/ Here is one of the typical adverts shown at cinemas back in the 1970s and perhaps earlier. I remember seeing this in the mid-70s, featuring magician David Nixon who was a household name before Paul 'Not-A-Lot' Daniels.
Just before David Bowie became mega famous he appeared in a Lyons Maid ice cream lolly advert in 1969. The advert says that the lollies came with pop star trade cards. I just happen to have those exact same cards in my card collection and this video features me flicking through the complete set. Ridley Scott directed the Lyons Maid advert. Of course, Scott would go on to produce classic Sci-Fi films such as Blade Runner and Alien movies. It's also interesting to note that David Bowie's Son, Duncan Jones, directed the classic sci-fi movie Moon, which was also his debut movie. Major Tom was a fictional astronaut who was mentioned in David Jones' first monster hit single, Space Oddity, released just a few weeks before America's first ever manned moon mission. It's strange how an astronaut ...
Here's a nice reel of 60's British cinema ads I picked up some time back. Most of these are cinema-specific, advertising the candy bar, etc. Most are for Lyons Maid products, including one of the legendary Gerry Anderson supermarionation ads for Zoom (featuring Steve Zodiac of Fireball XL-5). And hey - is that George Lazenby at 1:52?? In order: Macleans (partial), Babychams, Lyons Maid (generic), Lyons Maid Fruit Parfait, Lyons Maid Zoom, Lyons Maid Cornish Sundae, Butterkist, Lyons Maid hot dogs, Kia-Ora Flamenco and Cascade, and Pepsi-Cola. Transferred, as usual, from a 16mm print in my collection by James Paterson.

The Next Day was, by many fan admissions, the ultimate "comeback" record for Bowie. Breaking a nine-year silence in which the only word of Bowie was from a couple of compilation releases and reissues, The Next Day was a welcomed and well-recieved record by fans and critics alike. With a smashing title track and a controversial video to back it up, it proved anyone who had any doubts that David Bowie was back, stronger than ever, and with a paritcular roar that hadn't been heard before. David Bowie interview with Kerry O'Brien on Australian TV program "7.30 Report" broadcast in 2004. Re-broadcast on TV program "Rage" on 15 January 2016 as part of a tribute to David Bowie. RIP.
After a total of 74 concerts, David Bowie's Diamond Dogs/Philly Dogs Soul Tour closed in Atlanta on 1st December 1974. three days later on the 4th December, Dick Cavett's Wide World Of Entertainment screened this pre-recorded appearance of David Bowie that had been taped in New York on 2nd November while Bowie was there for his Radio City Music Hall shows. During the Dick Cavett Show, Bowie and his band gave excellent performances of '1984', 'Young Americans' and 'Footstompin'. Another song 'Can You Hear Me?' was not televised, due to broadcast time limitations. During the interview with Cavett, Bowie's exhausted physical and mental state was all too painfully obvious. He fended off Cavett's questions with hostile and garbled answers, whilst at the same time flirting and pouting his lips...
Talk with Michael Parkinson and as second guest Tom Hanks. Bowie performs "Everyone says "HI"" from the album "Heathen" and "Life on Mars" in the show. About the song "Life on Mars" and the link to Frank Sinatra: When released as a single in 1973, it reached number three in the UK and stayed on the chart for thirteen weeks. In 2015 Neil McCormick, chief rock music critic of "The Daily Telegraph", ranked it as number one in his "100 Greatest Songs of All Time" list. In 1968 Bowie wrote the lyrics "Even a Fool Learns to Love", set to the music of a 1967 French song "Comme d'habitude", composed by Claude François and Jacques Revaux. Bowie's version was never released, but Paul Anka bought the rights to the original French version, and rewrote it into "My Way", the song made famous by Frank Si...
I have never been to the Hotel Mixel.
This is a rare beast, a genuine British industrial musical. It was made in 1973 to celebrate 50 years of ice cream manufacture by confectioners Lyons Maid Ltd. They held a special meeting at The Talk Of The Town in London's West End where the 550 sales executives were treated to this specially commissioned stage musical that boasts an impressive cast and writers.
The early 80s was a golden time for new and unusual desserts and lollies. And Lyons Maid continued to lead the way, with whatever this was.
Before alcopops ruined a nation of children, there were cocktail lollies, in rum, brandy or tequila flavours. Nick Wilton and.. is that Michael Fenton-Stevens?

EONus 3. A fantastic Edge period with music by Elliot Lawrence Productions (1976-84) and fresh new characters with lives that looked a lot like "our own sans the murder" kept us diehards rooting for "The Edge of Night" and long ago established characters of Mike (FORREST COMPTON) and Nancy Karr (ANN FLOOD) whose newspaper crime reporting nearly got our Nancy raped by a young drug dealing thug (BENNET COOPERMAN) with an attraction for older women. For many of us, there was no other soap opera save "Edge of Night" by Henry Slesar, which had been ingrained in our brains since childhood and haven't left forty-three years later. Geraldine (LOIS KIBBEE) shared compelling and humorous scenes with spoiled Raven (SHARON GABET). An imagined triangle between Miles (JOEL CROTHERS) and Nicole (JAYN...
