Syria, ‘It’s just getting worse and worse’

Source: Channel 4 Spool forward less than a year and now it is the World Food Programme (WFP) and other UN agencies working here – or rather not being able to work here any more. This time we were just north of Damascus and plans to move on with touring food distribution centres came to an abrupt halt when fighting broke out on the road between our location and the capital a few miles distant. “It’s just getting worse and worse, ” Kate Newton, WFP’s deputy here told, me as we waited at the roadside. “There is just more fighting in more areas and it is getting increasingly difficult for us to move around.”

Philippines: The Right Food At The Right Time

Philippines: The Right Food At The Right Time

Micronutrient deficiencies, particularly anemia, continue to affect young children in the Philippines. To help the Philippine Government address this situation, the World Food Programme has introduced the use of Micronutrient Powder (MNP), which is a mix of vitamins and minerals that mothers sprinkle onto their child's food. MNP has proven effective in reducing anemia and other micronutrient deficiencies in countries like Indonesia and Nepal. The MNP is now being used in the Philippines as part of efforts to give children a healthier and brighter future. The MNP Project in the Philippines is funded under the Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund (MDG-F), and implemented together with other UN agencies and the Philippine Government.
