Alex Salmond on MSP Resignations and EU Legal Advice 23/10/12
First Minister Alex Salmond has said he "certainly hopes" no more SNP MSPs will resign from the party. John Finnie and Jean Urquhart had earlier announced their decision to leave the party. Both MSPs for the Highlands and Islands said the SNP decision to change its defence policy to support membership of Nato in an independent Scotland had prompted their decision. Mr Salmond was speaking to BBC Scotland's political correspondent Raymond Buchanan.

Analog Devices' 16-BIT, 10-MSPS SAR Converter
ADI's AD7626 PulSAR® ADC achieves a new level of 16-bit data capture performance, with best-in-class 15-bit ENOB (effective number of bits) and 10-MSPS (million samples per second) throughput, which is 2.5 times faster than other SAR ADCs. Unlike other ADCs, which operate at much lower speeds or reach higher sample rates by increasing power consumption and trading off ac and dc performance, the AD7626 PulSAR ADC has a 92-dB SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) that is 8 dB (1.3 bits) better than any ADC, regardless of architecture. MSPs John Finnie and Jean Urquhart "quit" SNP over Nato policy
Highland MSPs John Finnie and Jean Urquhart have resigned from the SNP over the party's decision to end its long-standing opposition to Nato. The pair described the decision as "heart-wrenching" and said they would continue to sit as independent MSPs with no official party affiliation.Party leader Alex Salmond said he was saddened by the resignations. The SNP now has a majority of one at Holyrood, although the MSPs said they would support most party policy. The change of stance on Nato membership was approved at the party's conference in Perth on Friday by 426 votes to 332. The policy was opposed by several MSPs and rank and file members, including Mr Finnie and Ms Urquhart. The SNP's stance for the last 30 years has been to oppose Nato, the defence alliance involving the US, UK and other countries. However, Angus Robertson MP put forward a resolution saying an independent Scotland should become a member of the pro-nuclear weapons organisation. He told the conference that the fresh approach was dependent on Trident nuclear weapons - which are currently based at Faslane Naval base on the Clyde - being removed from Scotland and on Scotland's refusal to host nuclear weapons in the future. Mr Finnie and Ms Urquhart, both former Highland councillors, opposed the change of policy. A member of the SNP since he was 16, Mr Finnie said: "I cannot continue to belong to a party that quite rightly does not wish to hold nuclear weapons on its soil, but wants to join a first strike ...

Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP - Scottish/Polish Connections Debate
Shirley-Anne Somerville MSPs contribution to the Scottish Parliament Members' Business Debate on: S3M-04641# Shirley-Anne Somerville (Lothians) (Scottish National Party): Celebrating the Scottish-Polish Connection— That the Parliament commemorates the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the Polish navy in Leith on 1 September 1939; notes that the three Polish destroyers Burza (Storm), Grom (Thunder) and Blyskawica (Lightning) saw service alongside the Royal Navy during the Second World War, with Grom being sunk with heavy loss of life on 4 May 1940; recognises that the arrival of the destroyers marked the beginning of a strong wartime Scottish-Polish connection, with several squadrons of the Polish Air Force serving in the country and Polish ships based at a number of Scottish ports, including Rosyth, Greenock, Port Glasgow, Ardrossan, Gourock, Dundee and Scapa Flow; further recognises that the main influx of Poles during the war occurred following the collapse of France in 1940 when some 30000 Polish troops were evacuated to the United Kingdom and were stationed in Scotland, many of whom settled here; notes that a Polish house was organised in Edinburgh by the British Council to help the Polish community socially and educationally at this time; celebrates not just the wartime links but the long historical connection between Scotland and Poland, which includes upwards of 40000 Scots migrating to Poland during the 17th century, and applauds the work of many organisations ...

Noisy jelly is a game where the player has to cook and shape his own musical material, based on coloured jelly.
With this noisy chemistry lab, the gamer will create his own jelly with water and a few grams of agar agar powder. After added different color, the mix is then pour in the molds. 10 min later, the jelly shape can then be placed on the game board, and by touching the shape, the gamer will activate different sounds.
Technically, the game board is a capacitive sensor, and the variations of the shape and their salt concentration, the distance and the strength of the finger contact are detected and transform into an audio signal.
This object aims to demonstrate that electronic can have a new aesthetic, and be envisaged as a malleable material, which has to be manipulated and experimented.
