Utah Voter List Testimony - Domestic Abuse Victim (2014 HB302)
This is the exceptionally compelling emotional testimoy of a domestic abuse victim about the impact that posting of the voter list has had on her. Please listen to it and then "like" the Facebook page "Protecting Utah Voters" http://www.facebook.com/ProtectingUtahVoters Currently, the Utah Lieutenant Governor's office sells the full voter list to anyone willing to pay. The list was recently posted to the internet and contains voters' personal information, including voting history. This list includes prominent community leaders, police officers and judges (and their families). The Governor and Lieutenant Governor are the exception as their information is typically not included. HB302 would allow voters to opt-out of such a release. Similar bills have been is opposed by media groups, both major political parties, Lexis-Nexis and others who believe they are entitled to voter's personal information and that right trumps an individual's right to vote. Utah Voter List Testimony - Media Argument (2014 HB302)

Governor Gary R. Herbert: Utah is leading the way
Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert announced a deal has been reached with the U.S. Department of Interior to re-open the State's five national parks, Cedar Breaks and Natural Bridges national monuments, and the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. This evening the Governor signed an agreement with Interior Secretary Sally Jewell and the National Park Service (NPS) whereby Utah agrees to pay the NPS up to $1.67 million- $166,572 per day-to re-open eight national sites in Utah for up to 10 days. If the federal government shutdown ends before then, the State will receive a refund of unused monies. "Utah's national parks are the backbone of many rural economies and hard-working Utahns are paying a heavy price for this shutdown," Governor Herbert said. "I commend Secretary Jewell for being open to Utah's solution, and the world should know Utah is open for business and visitors are welcome." • National Parks and Monuments opening: • Zion National Park • Bryce Canyon National Park • Arches National Park • Canyonlands National Park • Capitol Reef National Park • Natural Bridges National Monument • Cedar Breaks National Monument • Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (Lake Powell)- published: 11 Oct 2013

Companies Back Utah Governor's Call for More School Tech
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Utah students will get their hands on more laptops, digital tablets like iPads and tech-geared lessons if state lawmakers heed amplified cries from Utah Gov. Gary Herbert. The governor announced a $2 million campaign Thursday to drive student interest in math, science and technology. It is paid for by a few dozen businesses with roots or branches in Utah, including Goldman Sachs and Ebay.Herbert's message that Utah businesses need more tech and math-savvy workers to fill today's jobs will land in living rooms across Utah over the next two years in a series of TV commercials. The message will also splash across billboards statewide. The governor this year is asking legislators to set aside $4.5 million state dollars for science, technology and math programs for Utah students.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press.
