William Draper (British Army officer)
Sir William Draper KCB (1721 – 8 January 1787), was a British military officer who conquered Manila in 1762, but was involved in the unsuccessful defence of Minorca in 1782. He was also involved in 1774 with a key meeting that agreed an early set of cricket rules including the leg before wicket rule.
Biography
Draper was born in Bristol, then the second largest city in England, to a young Customs Officer. His father died the following year and the family struggled for money for many years, spending some time in India.
Draper was educated at Eton, to which he won a scholarship in 1733, and King's College, Cambridge.
In 1744, during the War of Austrian succession he became an Ensign in Lord Henry Beauclerk's regiment, adjutant in the 1st Foot Guards in 1746, and a lieutenant and captain in 1749.
In 1756 he married his first wife, Caroline, daughter of Lord William Beauclerk./>

In the Seven Years' War he commanded the 79th Regiment of Foot, raised by himself, at the Siege of Madras in 1758–59.

William Draper (MP)
William Draper (born 1620) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1653. He was an active supporter of Parliament during the Commonwealth,
Draper was probably the son of Robert Draper. He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford on 20 May 1636, aged 16. He was a commissioner for sequestration for Oxfordshire in March 1649 when he wrote to the Council of State concerning the "delinquents" at Oxford, and the Council replied on 29 March, " Thanks for your letter manifesting care to preserve the peace of the Commonwealth". In December 1649 there is a reference to a conspiracy against him. He was appointed by the Council to be Captain of the Horse Militia in Oxfordshire on 2 April 1650, and was Governor of Oxford from 9 May 1651. He was made Captain of the Horse Volunteers of Oxford City and University on 16 August 1651. On 17 September the Council appointed him to guard of Wallingford Castle and instructed him to march there "and remain there until you receive further order."

William Draper (cricketer)
William Draper (12 November 1848 - 13 March 1919) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Kent from 1874 to 1880.
Draper was born at Penshurst, Kent, and was registered at birth under William Drapper. In 1872 he appeared for Colts of England and in 1873 represented a side comprising players engaged at Prince's Club. In 1874 he made his first class debut for Kent playing their first match against Derbyshire. It was in the second match of the 1874 season against Derbyshire that Draper achieved his best bowling performance of 5 for 51. He carried on playing for Kent until 1880. He also played for Hastings.
Draper was a left-hand batsman and played 17 innings in 9 first class matches with an average of 7.20 and a top score of 28. He was a right-arm medium pace bowler and took 20 first class wickets at an average of 38.45 and a best performance of 5 for 51.
Draper was a first-class umpire between 1887 and 1898. He died at Tunbridge Wells, Kent at the age of 70

Historians of science call this the “conflict thesis.” In this short film, historians of science Dr. Lawrence Principe and Dr. Edward Davis examine the roots and social context of the conflict thesis. They explain that the conflict thesis can be traced primarily to the popular works of two 19th century Americans: John William Draper and Andrew Dickson White. In this oral history, William H. Draper III begins by speaking about his early life, including growing up in Scarsdale, New York, his time at Yale University followed immediately by Harvard Business School, and his service in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant during the Korean War. He touches upon a number of his proudest investments, including Hybertech, which invented the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Test for cancer, Activision, Skype, OpenTable, and Kiva. In this oral history, William H. Draper III begins by speaking about his early life, including growing up in Scarsdale, New York, his time at Yale University followed immediately by Harvard Business School, and his service in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant during the Korean War. He goes on to discuss his early career at Inland Steel in Chicago and working with his father who founded Draper, Gaither & Anderson, one of the first venture capital firms in Silicon Valley.
Draper then covers the founding of Draper & Johnson in 1962 with close friend Pitch Johnson, before expounding upon his fifteen-year tenure at Sutter Hill Ventures with Paul Wythes, Frank Lodato, and Greg Peterson. He touches upon a number of his proudest investments, including Hybertech, which invented the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Test for cancer, Activision, Skype, OpenTable, and Kiva. Draper concludes by discussing his work with the United Nations Development Programme, recent philanthropic ventures, and his vision for the future.

There is a popular conception that the historical relationship between science and religion has always been one of conflict or even all-out warfare. Historians of science call this the “conflict thesis.” In this short film, historians of science Dr. Lawrence Principe and Dr. Edward Davis examine the roots and social context of the conflict thesis. They explain that the conflict thesis can be traced primarily to the popular works of two 19th century Americans: John William Draper and Andrew Dickson White.

William Draper (British Army officer)
Sir William Draper KCB (1721 – 8 January 1787), was a British military officer who conquered Manila in 1762, but was involved in the unsuccessful defence of Minorca in 1782. He was also involved in 1774 with a key meeting that agreed an early set of cricket rules including the leg before wicket rule.
Biography
Draper was born in Bristol, then the second largest city in England, to a young Customs Officer. His father died the following year and the family struggled for money for many years, spending some time in India.
Draper was educated at Eton, to which he won a scholarship in 1733, and King's College, Cambridge.
In 1744, during the War of Austrian succession he became an Ensign in Lord Henry Beauclerk's regiment, adjutant in the 1st Foot Guards in 1746, and a lieutenant and captain in 1749.
In 1756 he married his first wife, Caroline, daughter of Lord William Beauclerk./>

In the Seven Years' War he commanded the 79th Regiment of Foot, raised by himself, at the Siege of Madras in 1758–59.
