Bob Hoskins is retiring from acting after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, his agent said Wednesday in a statement.
The 69-year-old British actor, who starred in films including "Mona Lisa" and most recently "Snow White & the Huntsman," was diagnosed last autumn, according to the statement.
"He wishes to thank all the great and brilliant people he has worked with over the years, and all of his fans who have supported him during a wonderful career," the statement read.
Born in Suffolk, England, in 1942, Hoskins has had a career in show business that has spanned four decades. He rose to fame after his turn playing a private detective in the combination live action-and-animation film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," for which he earned Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.
Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder for which there is no cure. Other notable persons afflicted by the disease include actor Michael J. Fox and boxing legend Muhammad Ali.

Another odd scene from the British classic Gangster flick, "The Long Good Friday", which had even the manliest of men questioning their sexuality. I can't reveal a spoiler, but, Harold ( Bob Hoskins ) has had to come to terms with himself killing a fellow friend due to some unforseen circumstances, and has decided to take a nice, hot shower. Whilst his clothes are being burnt in the backyard, he proceeds to drink shower water, and soap his hairy gorilla-esqué man boobs in an erotic fashion. Seriously, the only reason I like this scene is the comedy value. It's obviously symbolic, of course, but... it all seems so bizarre, and homoerotic. Especially considering this is a movie based around gangsters, toughmen, and expert criminals. Bit out of place, don't you think? - It is, however, a manly picture of human emotion, and besides that, Bob Hoskin's showing off his ridiculous amount of body hair. Enjoy! Ho-ho.

This BBC version of David Copperfield "demonstrates what can be accomplished with a clear artistic vision and excellent craftsmanship: it is an example of a literary adaptation done right, resulting in a very entertaining program that also happens to be very faithful to the original novel. One of the most striking things about David Copperfield is how well it captures the tone of Dickens' novel; no easy feat, since Dickens was both a comedic and a dramatic writer, and in David Copperfield he mixes melodrama with strongly autobiographical material. The cast of David Copperfield fits the bill very nicely, with talented actors who are able to present the characters as slightly larger than life, yet at the same time as real human beings. Particularly of note are the characters of Betsy Trotwood (Maggie Smith) and Micawber (Bob Hoskins), who have the most comedic roles but who must also be convincing as people near and dear to David." - Holly E. "The crowning performance, however, is Ian McKellen in an all-too-brief cameo as Mr. Creakle, the abusive headmaster of Salem House boarding school. [He] is astonishing. He captures with insidious subtlety the strained whispery voice and bottled-up rage described by Dickens. In the novel, it's Creakle's wife who tells Copperfield that his mother is dead. [Adrian Hodges'] script dispenses with Mrs. Creakle and gives the scene to McKellen, who works wonders with it, creating a gleefully dark portrait of callous insensitivity. Indeed, McKellen is so good that one can imagine Dickens applauding from on high."
This wonderful "presentation... is remarkably faithful to the sublime melancholy that pervades the story. We're always aware while reading the book that Copperfield is relating his story as an adult struggling to recapture the essence of a painful childhood. Hodges' television script accomplishes something similar with its generous use of spoken narration taken directly from Dickens and beautifully read by Tom Wilkinson. There is a world-weariness and sad wisdom that Wilkinson brings to his off-screen role. He sets the tone for the production again and again. The first hour contains a marvelous example of narration and action blending seamlessly. [It] aims straight for the heart of David Copperfield and finds the quiet emotions and the understatement that have often been lacking in previous versions. [This] production wisely focuses on the behavior of the adults, rather than on the adolescent actor portraying Copperfield. Daniel Radcliffe [of Harry Potter fame, in his first role] has a naturalistic presence -- rare enough in child actors -- and he seems like a real boy, which is all that's really required. David Copperfield is not meant to be an exceptional child. He is an ordinary child to whom extraordinary things happen."

Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi Mario (John Leguizamo) are two Italian American plumbers living in Brooklyn, New York. The brothers are being driven out of business by the mafia-like Scapelli Construction Company, led by contractor Anthony Scapelli (Gianni Russo). Mario is the elder of the two brothers, being close to the late 30s, and Luigi is about in his early-mid 20s. Luigi falls in love with an orphaned NYU student, Daisy (Samantha Mathis), who is digging under the Brooklyn Bridge for dinosaur bones. After a date, she takes Luigi to the dig and witnesses Scapelli's men (who, along with Scapelli himself, had previously threatened her to end her research on that specific piece of land for their own interests) sabotage it by leaving the water-pipes open. Luigi tries to stop it but he does not have his tools on him so he can not fix it. They rush back to his apartment where they inform Mario about the incident. The three go back to the flooding and the Mario Bros. manage to fix it but are knocked out by two strange characters, Iggy (Fisher Stevens) and Spike (Richard Edson). The two crooks kidnap Daisy.
Mario and Luigi awaken a minute later and head deeper into the caves following Daisy's screaming and discover an interdimensional portal through which Mario and Luigi follow Daisy. They find themselves in a strange dystopian parallel world where a human-like race evolved from dinosaurs rather than the mammalian ancestry of true humans. Sixty-five million years ago, a meteorite crashed into the Earth, and in doing so ripped the universe into two parallel dimensions. All the surviving dinosaurs of the time crossed over into this new realm. Iggy and Spike turn out to be henchmen (and cousins) of the other world's germophobic and obsessive dictator, King Koopa (Dennis Hopper), descended from the T-Rex. However, the two have failed to also bring Daisy's rock, a meteorite fragment which Koopa is trying to get in order to merge his world with the real world that separated from Koopa's world during the meteor strike. It turns out that Daisy is the princess of the other dimension but when Koopa overthrew Daisy's father (and turned him into fungus), Daisy's mother took her to New York using the inter-dimensional portal. The portal was then destroyed, killing Daisy's mother in the process, but when Scapelli was blasting at the cave, the portal was reopened. When Koopa hears about the re-opening of the portal, he sends Spike and Iggy to find Daisy and the rock to merge the dimensions and make Koopa dictator of both worlds. Spike and Iggy, however, who had grown more intelligent after being subjected to one of Koopa's experiments, decide to turn on Koopa and join forces with Mario and Luigi. Koopa thinks only Daisy can merge the worlds, but Mario and Luigi were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Daisy is eventually rescued by the plumbers.
Eventually, the two worlds merge, during which Scapelli gets his comeuppance when Koopa devolves him into a primate by mistake while aiming for Mario, but Luigi and Daisy take back the rock and the worlds separate. Mario gains his courage and fights Koopa and eventually wins when he and Luigi devolve him, transforming him into a ferocious, semi-humanoid Tyrannosaurus. Koopa then leaps out for a last attack but Mario and Luigi devolve him into primeval slime, destroying him. Daisy's father (Lance Henriksen) turns back to normal and reclaims control over the kingdom stating he "loves those plumbers". The citizens destroy anything involving Koopa. As the brothers return home, Luigi and Daisy admit their love for one another but Daisy cannot return to New York until the damage caused by Koopa is reversed and she spends more time with her father. Mario rephrases Daisy's words to Luigi but he does not care. A deeply hurt and saddened Luigi kisses her goodbye and the two brothers return to New York, while Daisy, along with Yoshi and Toad (Mojo Nixon), watch them leave. About three weeks later, Daisy returns for Mario and Luigi's help in fighting more villains. Meanwhile, Mario and Luigi's story is televised, giving them their name "Super Mario Bros."
In a post-credits scene, two Nintendo executives talk about a video game based on their adventures but they are asking Iggy and Spike instead of the Super Mario Bros. and they decide on a title called "The Super Koopa Cousins".

History of FILM and ANIMATION :
The tradition goes back all the way to the earliest days of animation with Winsor McCay's short Gertie the Dinosaur, which shows a live-action narrator (specifically, a "live" actor, instead of a filmed one) interacting with an animated landscape and character (Gertie). In one scene, the narrator appears to throw a real orange which is caught by Gertie (the real orange is replaced by an animated one just as it leaves the narrator's hand), and the film climaxes with a scene in which the narrator enters the animated landscape (again, replaced by an animated version) and takes a ride on the famous dinosaur's back.
In the later days of silent film, the popular animated cartoons of Max Fleischer included a series where his cartoon character Koko the Clown interacted with the live world; for example, having a boxing match with a live kitten. In a variation on this concept, Walt Disney's first directorial efforts (years before Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was born in 1927 and Mickey Mouse in 1928) were the animated Alice Comedies short cartoons, in which a young live-action girl named Alice interacted with animated cartoon characters.
In the era of sound film, the 1940 Warner Bros. cartoon You Ought to Be in Pictures, directed by Friz Freleng, can be seen as a predecessor to Roger Rabbit. The animated sequence in the 1945 film Anchors Aweigh in which Gene Kelly dances with an animated Jerry Mouse is one of the actor's most famous scenes.
The Disney Studio mixed live action and animation in several notable films (which are primarily considered live-action):
In The Three Caballeros (1945), Donald Duck cavorts with several Latin-American dancers, plus Aurora Miranda (sister of Carmen Miranda), who gives him a kiss.
In Song of the South (1946), Uncle Remus sings "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" in an animated field, and tells the stories of Brer Rabbit through the animated sequences.
So Dear to My Heart (1949) features sequences of a similar nature.
Mary Poppins (1964) is one of the best-known films of this nature, including a scene in which Dick Van Dyke dances with cartoon penguins as Julie Andrews watches.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971) features a hybrid sequence in which Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson dance together in an underwater nightclub, while Tomlinson must bear the brunt of aggressive, anthropomorphic soccer-playing animals in the latter half.
Pete's Dragon (1977) does the opposite of its predecessors: it puts the animated dragon, Elliott, in a live-action setting. Disney had been inspired by the Swedish success Dunderklumpen from 1974.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) from Disney and Amblin Entertainment broke new ground with its advanced special effects and "realistic" portrayal of the interaction of animated characters and live actors. Memorable moments include the piano duel between Donald Duck and his Looney Tunes rival Daffy Duck, Jessica Rabbit's entrance, Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse in the same scene, and Bob Hoskins handcuffed to the title character.
With the commercial and technological success of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Space Jam, a number of live-action/animated films followed from other studios, including Cool World, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action - though none of them have had any major commercial success equal to Roger Rabbit or Space Jam.
There were also many previous films combining live action with stop motion animation using back projection, such as the films of Willis O'Brien and Ray Harryhausen in the United States, and Aleksandr Ptushko, Karel Zeman and more recently Jan Švankmajer in Eastern Europe. The first feature film to do this was The Lost World (1925). In the 1935 Soviet film The New Gulliver, the only character who wasn't animated was Gulliver himself. See also: List of stop-motion films
Ralph Bakshi combined live-action and animation in 1973's Heavy Traffic, 1975's Coonskin (a.k.a. "Streetfight") and 1992's Cool World. The combination of live action and animation is very common in TV commercials, especially those promoting products appealing to children.

Four old friends drift towards their favourite watering hole -- The Coach and Horses, but this time they seem a little reluctant. Ray (Bob Hoskins), Vic (Tom Courtenay) and Lenny (David Hemmings) have gathered to fulfil the last order of their lifelong friend Jack (Michael Caine). The mood is quieter than usual as they raise a glass to Jack for the last time and brace themselves for their journey down to Margate, where they'll scatter his ashes off the pier of his favourite seaside town. As the jar containing Jack's ashes sits on the bar, they contemplate how it's the same size as their pints of beer... Just then, a car horn sounds outside. It's Vince (Ray Winstone), or Big Boy as they all affectionately call him. Jack's son, a successful second hand car dealer, has agreed to be chauffeur for the day in a flash blue Mercedes. If they're gonna give Jack a proper send off, it has to be in style. Jack's wife Amy (Helen Mirren) has decided not to join the pilgrimage to Margate, instead she's set out on a very significant journey of her own - a visit to their mentally handicapped daughter June (Laura Morelli). The road trip begins and the gang reminisce. In a series of flashbacks, the emotional mystery unfolds, as they try to come to terms with Jack's death by reliving their life with him. Stopping along the way to pay tribute to Jack in the way he'd most appreciate it (in the pub!), tension eventually builds to boiling point between Lenny and Vince when it's revealed that Big Boy made Sally, (Lenny's daughter) pregnant and ran off to the army. Vince's anger is exacerbated by the painful recollection of Jack revealing he wasn't his real father and learning that Amy rescued him from a burning house when his own parents were killed during a bombing raid. Vince takes a detour, to Wick's Farm, and he and Lenny fight it out in the middle of the hop field where Jack and Amy first met before the war. As they arrive at Canterbury Cathedral, Ray's mind is elsewhere... He's always secretly loved Amy, ever since Jack first showed him that black and white photo of her in his wallet during their army days in Egypt. For six weeks many years ago, Ray and Amy had an affair. Ray understood her and sympathised with her about June, where Jack failed to. He was her little ray of light... Maybe there's a second chance for them now? By the time the group reach Margate, the wind and rain are lashing down on them. Their journey's complete and as they congregate on Margate Pier, each with and handful of Jack's ashes, they send him on his final journey, certain in the knowledge, that he was a catalyst in all of their lives and just as friends can break your heart... it's the same friends who can mend it.

Bob Hoskins is retiring from acting after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, his agent said Wednesday in a statement.
The 69-year-old British actor, who starred in films including "Mona Lisa" and most recently "Snow White & the Huntsman," was diagnosed last autumn, according to the statement.
"He wishes to thank all the great and brilliant people he has worked with over the years, and all of his fans who have supported him during a wonderful career," the statement read.
Born in Suffolk, England, in 1942, Hoskins has had a career in show business that has spanned four decades. He rose to fame after his turn playing a private detective in the combination live action-and-animation film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," for which he earned Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.
Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder for which there is no cure. Other notable persons afflicted by the disease include actor Michael J. Fox and boxing legend Muhammad Ali.

Another odd scene from the British classic Gangster flick, "The Long Good Friday", which had even the manliest of men questioning their sexuality. I can't reveal a spoiler, but, Harold ( Bob Hoskins ) has had to come to terms with himself killing a fellow friend due to some unforseen circumstances, and has decided to take a nice, hot shower. Whilst his clothes are being burnt in the backyard, he proceeds to drink shower water, and soap his hairy gorilla-esqué man boobs in an erotic fashion. Seriously, the only reason I like this scene is the comedy value. It's obviously symbolic, of course, but... it all seems so bizarre, and homoerotic. Especially considering this is a movie based around gangsters, toughmen, and expert criminals. Bit out of place, don't you think? - It is, however, a manly picture of human emotion, and besides that, Bob Hoskin's showing off his ridiculous amount of body hair. Enjoy! Ho-ho.

This BBC version of David Copperfield "demonstrates what can be accomplished with a clear artistic vision and excellent craftsmanship: it is an example of a literary adaptation done right, resulting in a very entertaining program that also happens to be very faithful to the original novel. One of the most striking things about David Copperfield is how well it captures the tone of Dickens' novel; no easy feat, since Dickens was both a comedic and a dramatic writer, and in David Copperfield he mixes melodrama with strongly autobiographical material. The cast of David Copperfield fits the bill very nicely, with talented actors who are able to present the characters as slightly larger than life, yet at the same time as real human beings. Particularly of note are the characters of Betsy Trotwood (Maggie Smith) and Micawber (Bob Hoskins), who have the most comedic roles but who must also be convincing as people near and dear to David." - Holly E. "The crowning performance, however, is Ian McKellen in an all-too-brief cameo as Mr. Creakle, the abusive headmaster of Salem House boarding school. [He] is astonishing. He captures with insidious subtlety the strained whispery voice and bottled-up rage described by Dickens. In the novel, it's Creakle's wife who tells Copperfield that his mother is dead. [Adrian Hodges'] script dispenses with Mrs. Creakle and gives the scene to McKellen, who works wonders with it, creating a gleefully dark portrait of callous insensitivity. Indeed, McKellen is so good that one can imagine Dickens applauding from on high."
This wonderful "presentation... is remarkably faithful to the sublime melancholy that pervades the story. We're always aware while reading the book that Copperfield is relating his story as an adult struggling to recapture the essence of a painful childhood. Hodges' television script accomplishes something similar with its generous use of spoken narration taken directly from Dickens and beautifully read by Tom Wilkinson. There is a world-weariness and sad wisdom that Wilkinson brings to his off-screen role. He sets the tone for the production again and again. The first hour contains a marvelous example of narration and action blending seamlessly. [It] aims straight for the heart of David Copperfield and finds the quiet emotions and the understatement that have often been lacking in previous versions. [This] production wisely focuses on the behavior of the adults, rather than on the adolescent actor portraying Copperfield. Daniel Radcliffe [of Harry Potter fame, in his first role] has a naturalistic presence -- rare enough in child actors -- and he seems like a real boy, which is all that's really required. David Copperfield is not meant to be an exceptional child. He is an ordinary child to whom extraordinary things happen."
A production of the BBC and PBS' Masterpiece Theatre, and nominated for 3 BAFTAs and a Primetime Emmy, [it] "sometimes feels too compressed and truncated" although its two parts run 3 1/2 hours. David Copperfield is a two part BBC television drama adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel David Copperfield, adapted by Adrian Hodges. The first part was shown on Christmas Day (25 December) and the second on Boxing Day (26 December) in 1999. Super Mario Brothers: The Movie [Full Length] [3D]
Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi Mario (John Leguizamo) are two Italian American plumbers living in Brooklyn, New York. The brothers are being driven out of business by the mafia-like Scapelli Construction Company, led by contractor Anthony Scapelli (Gianni Russo). Mario is the elder of the two brothers, being close to the late 30s, and Luigi is about in his early-mid 20s. Luigi falls in love with an orphaned NYU student, Daisy (Samantha Mathis), who is digging under the Brooklyn Bridge for dinosaur bones. After a date, she takes Luigi to the dig and witnesses Scapelli's men (who, along with Scapelli himself, had previously threatened her to end her research on that specific piece of land for their own interests) sabotage it by leaving the water-pipes open. Luigi tries to stop it but he does not have his tools on him so he can not fix it. They rush back to his apartment where they inform Mario about the incident. The three go back to the flooding and the Mario Bros. manage to fix it but are knocked out by two strange characters, Iggy (Fisher Stevens) and Spike (Richard Edson). The two crooks kidnap Daisy.
Mario and Luigi awaken a minute later and head deeper into the caves following Daisy's screaming and discover an interdimensional portal through which Mario and Luigi follow Daisy. They find themselves in a strange dystopian parallel world where a human-like race evolved from dinosaurs rather than the mammalian ancestry of true humans. Sixty-five million years ago, a meteorite crashed into the Earth, and in doing so ripped the universe into two parallel dimensions. All the surviving dinosaurs of the time crossed over into this new realm. Iggy and Spike turn out to be henchmen (and cousins) of the other world's germophobic and obsessive dictator, King Koopa (Dennis Hopper), descended from the T-Rex. However, the two have failed to also bring Daisy's rock, a meteorite fragment which Koopa is trying to get in order to merge his world with the real world that separated from Koopa's world during the meteor strike. It turns out that Daisy is the princess of the other dimension but when Koopa overthrew Daisy's father (and turned him into fungus), Daisy's mother took her to New York using the inter-dimensional portal. The portal was then destroyed, killing Daisy's mother in the process, but when Scapelli was blasting at the cave, the portal was reopened. When Koopa hears about the re-opening of the portal, he sends Spike and Iggy to find Daisy and the rock to merge the dimensions and make Koopa dictator of both worlds. Spike and Iggy, however, who had grown more intelligent after being subjected to one of Koopa's experiments, decide to turn on Koopa and join forces with Mario and Luigi. Koopa thinks only Daisy can merge the worlds, but Mario and Luigi were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Daisy is eventually rescued by the plumbers.
Eventually, the two worlds merge, during which Scapelli gets his comeuppance when Koopa devolves him into a primate by mistake while aiming for Mario, but Luigi and Daisy take back the rock and the worlds separate. Mario gains his courage and fights Koopa and eventually wins when he and Luigi devolve him, transforming him into a ferocious, semi-humanoid Tyrannosaurus. Koopa then leaps out for a last attack but Mario and Luigi devolve him into primeval slime, destroying him. Daisy's father (Lance Henriksen) turns back to normal and reclaims control over the kingdom stating he "loves those plumbers". The citizens destroy anything involving Koopa. As the brothers return home, Luigi and Daisy admit their love for one another but Daisy cannot return to New York until the damage caused by Koopa is reversed and she spends more time with her father. Mario rephrases Daisy's words to Luigi but he does not care. A deeply hurt and saddened Luigi kisses her goodbye and the two brothers return to New York, while Daisy, along with Yoshi and Toad (Mojo Nixon), watch them leave. About three weeks later, Daisy returns for Mario and Luigi's help in fighting more villains. Meanwhile, Mario and Luigi's story is televised, giving them their name "Super Mario Bros."
In a post-credits scene, two Nintendo executives talk about a video game based on their adventures but they are asking Iggy and Spike instead of the Super Mario Bros. and they decide on a title called "The Super Koopa Cousins".

History of FILM and ANIMATION :
The tradition goes back all the way to the earliest days of animation with Winsor McCay's short Gertie the Dinosaur, which shows a live-action narrator (specifically, a "live" actor, instead of a filmed one) interacting with an animated landscape and character (Gertie). In one scene, the narrator appears to throw a real orange which is caught by Gertie (the real orange is replaced by an animated one just as it leaves the narrator's hand), and the film climaxes with a scene in which the narrator enters the animated landscape (again, replaced by an animated version) and takes a ride on the famous dinosaur's back.
In the later days of silent film, the popular animated cartoons of Max Fleischer included a series where his cartoon character Koko the Clown interacted with the live world; for example, having a boxing match with a live kitten. In a variation on this concept, Walt Disney's first directorial efforts (years before Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was born in 1927 and Mickey Mouse in 1928) were the animated Alice Comedies short cartoons, in which a young live-action girl named Alice interacted with animated cartoon characters.
In the era of sound film, the 1940 Warner Bros. cartoon You Ought to Be in Pictures, directed by Friz Freleng, can be seen as a predecessor to Roger Rabbit. The animated sequence in the 1945 film Anchors Aweigh in which Gene Kelly dances with an animated Jerry Mouse is one of the actor's most famous scenes.
The Disney Studio mixed live action and animation in several notable films (which are primarily considered live-action):
In The Three Caballeros (1945), Donald Duck cavorts with several Latin-American dancers, plus Aurora Miranda (sister of Carmen Miranda), who gives him a kiss.
In Song of the South (1946), Uncle Remus sings "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" in an animated field, and tells the stories of Brer Rabbit through the animated sequences.
So Dear to My Heart (1949) features sequences of a similar nature.
Mary Poppins (1964) is one of the best-known films of this nature, including a scene in which Dick Van Dyke dances with cartoon penguins as Julie Andrews watches.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971) features a hybrid sequence in which Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson dance together in an underwater nightclub, while Tomlinson must bear the brunt of aggressive, anthropomorphic soccer-playing animals in the latter half.
Pete's Dragon (1977) does the opposite of its predecessors: it puts the animated dragon, Elliott, in a live-action setting. Disney had been inspired by the Swedish success Dunderklumpen from 1974.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) from Disney and Amblin Entertainment broke new ground with its advanced special effects and "realistic" portrayal of the interaction of animated characters and live actors. Memorable moments include the piano duel between Donald Duck and his Looney Tunes rival Daffy Duck, Jessica Rabbit's entrance, Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse in the same scene, and Bob Hoskins handcuffed to the title character.
With the commercial and technological success of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Space Jam, a number of live-action/animated films followed from other studios, including Cool World, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action - though none of them have had any major commercial success equal to Roger Rabbit or Space Jam.
There were also many previous films combining live action with stop motion animation using back projection, such as the films of Willis O'Brien and Ray Harryhausen in the United States, and Aleksandr Ptushko, Karel Zeman and more recently Jan Švankmajer in Eastern Europe. The first feature film to do this was The Lost World (1925). In the 1935 Soviet film The New Gulliver, the only character who wasn't animated was Gulliver himself. See also: List of stop-motion films
Ralph Bakshi combined live-action and animation in 1973's Heavy Traffic, 1975's Coonskin (a.k.a. "Streetfight") and 1992's Cool World. The combination of live action and animation is very common in TV commercials, especially those promoting products appealing to children.

British Actor Bob Hoskins to Retire
Bob Hoskins is retiring from acting after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, his agent said Wednesday in a statement.
The 69-year-old British actor, who starred in films including "Mona Lisa" and most recently "Snow White & the Huntsman," was diagnosed last autumn, according to the statement.
"He wishes to thank all the great and brilliant people he has worked with over the years, and all of his fans who have supported him during a wonderful career," the statement read.
Born in Suffolk, England, in 1942, Hoskins has had a career in show business that has spanned four decades. He rose to fame after his turn playing a private detective in the combination live action-and-animation film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," for which he earned Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.
Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder for which there is no cure. Other notable persons afflicted by the disease include actor Michael J. Fox and boxing legend Muhammad Ali.

Another odd scene from the British classic Gangster flick, "The Long Good Friday", which had even the manliest of men questioning their sexuality. I can't reveal a spoiler, but, Harold ( Bob Hoskins ) has had to come to terms with himself killing a fellow friend due to some unforseen circumstances, and has decided to take a nice, hot shower. Whilst his clothes are being burnt in the backyard, he proceeds to drink shower water, and soap his hairy gorilla-esqué man boobs in an erotic fashion. Seriously, the only reason I like this scene is the comedy value. It's obviously symbolic, of course, but... it all seems so bizarre, and homoerotic. Especially considering this is a movie based around gangsters, toughmen, and expert criminals. Bit out of place, don't you think? - It is, however, a manly picture of human emotion, and besides that, Bob Hoskin's showing off his ridiculous amount of body hair. Enjoy! Ho-ho.

Robert William "Bob" Hoskins, Jr. (born 26 October 1942) is an English actor known for playing Cockney rough diamonds, psychopaths and gangsters, in films such as The Long Good Friday (1980), and Mona Lisa (1986). He has since played lighter roles in family films, such as Eddie Valiant in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Smee in both Hook (1991) and Neverland (2011).

Hoskins was born in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England, the son of Elsie Lillian (née Hopkins), a cook and nursery-school teacher, and Robert William Hoskins, Sr., a bookkeeper and lorry driver.[1][2] One of Hoskins's grandmothers was a Romani of the British Romanis.[3] From the age of two weeks old he was raised in Finsbury Park, in north London.[4] His father, a Communist, brought up Hoskins as an atheist, and he now describes himself as an agnostic.[5] In 1967, aged 25, Hoskins spent a short period of time in kibbutz Zikim in Israel.[6][7] In a recent interview, when asked what he owed his parents, he said, "Confidence. My mum used to say to me, 'If somebody doesn't like you, fuck 'em, they've got bad taste.'"[8]
Career[link]
Hoskins's acting career started in London in the late 1960s when he was sitting in a pub enjoying a beer when someone came up to him and told him to go upstairs to audition for a play, which he did, and landed the role.[9] His first major television role was in On the Move (1978), an educational series intended to tackle adult illiteracy, in which he played Alf, a removal man who had problems reading and writing. In the same year, he came to wider attention in the original BBC version of Dennis Potter's drama Pennies from Heaven as sheet music salesman Arthur Parker. Later, he played Iago in Jonathan Miller's BBC Television Shakespeare production of Othello.
Hoskins's performances in British films such as The Long Good Friday (1980) and Mona Lisa (1986) won him the wider approval of the critics and, in the case of the latter, a Cannes Award, Best Actor Golden Globe and BAFTA Awards and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He also delivered comic turns in Terry Gilliam's Brazil (1985) and Super Mario Bros. (1993). Hoskins was not initially aware that Super Mario Bros. was based on the popular video game of the same name. His son had asked him what film he was working on, and recognising it, showed Hoskins the video game on the Nintendo video game console. In a 2007 interview, he revealed that despite getting praised for his performance on the film, he was extremely unhappy with the film and was greatly angered by his experiences making it, referring to it as the "worst thing I ever did".[2] During the late 1980s and early 1990s he appeared in advertising for the recently privatised companies of British Gas and British Telecom (now BT Group).
Hoskins had a small role as a rock band's manager in the Pink Floyd film The Wall. He has also directed films. He was slated to be a last-minute replacement in the film The Untouchables if star Robert De Niro had not decided to play Al Capone. When De Niro took the part, director Brian De Palma mailed Hoskins a cheque for £20,000 with a Thank You note, which prompted Hoskins to call up De Palma and ask him if there were any more movies he didn't want him to be in.[10]
Hoskins appeared in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, for which he received a second Golden Globe nomination. Some of Hoskins's other notable appearances include playing opposite Cher in Mermaids (1990), boatswain Smee to Captain Hook in Hook (1991), and as the same character in Neverland (2011), and Uncle Bart, the psychopathic and violent "owner" of Jet Li in Unleashed aka Danny The Dog. He has also performed in several television productions for the BBC, including Dennis Potter's Pennies From Heaven, Flickers, David Copperfield as Wilkins Micawber (1999), and The Wind in the Willows. He played Nikita Khrushchev in the movie Enemy at the Gates (2001). Khrushchev was shown in his political commissar days during the Battle of Stalingrad. He received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Mrs Henderson Presents.
In 2009, Hoskins made a return to British television in Jimmy McGovern's drama serial The Street, where he played a publican who stands up to a local gangster. For this role he received his first Emmy when he won Best Actor at the 2010 International Emmys.
In a recent interview for The Guardian, Hoskins spoke of his regret at appearing in the film Super Mario Bros., which at the time received mixed reviews. When asked which individual he most despised, Hoskins said former Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair, stating that "he's done even more damage than Thatcher". Hoskins also made light of his similarities with film actor Danny DeVito, who he joked would play him in a film about his life.[8]
