Why the Hunting Act 2004 is too stupid to obey or enforce
Being burgled can be a very distressing experience for a householder. Would it therefore make any sense at all for the law against burglary to have an exemption allowing people to break into houses but on condition that they shoot any householders they encounter? Such a law would surely be totally repellent. Why then does the Hunting Act 2004 contain an exemption allowing people to use dogs to flush out wild mammals but only on condition that they then shoot them?

Wildlife and Rural Crime in Staffordshire
Staffordshire Police's week long operation to highlight our work with partners to tackle wildlife and rural crime has been hailed a success. The week began with a wildlife partnership operation on Cannock Chase on Friday 23 November and Saturday 24 November which was specifically aimed at catching poachers in the act. Uniform and plain clothed officers carried out late night patrols with park rangers, colleagues from the RSPCA and other wild life experts from the Staffordshire Wildlife and Countryside Group. The operation involved officers travelling around the area carrying out numerous checks of vehicles and occupants. As a result two warnings were issued for possession of cannabis and one vehicle was seized for no having insurance. Three men, aged 22, 24 and 28, all from Stoke-on-Trent, were arrested on suspicion of offences under the Hunting Act 2004 after the van they were travelling in was found to contain hunting dogs and a deer carcass. They have been released on bail pending further inquiries. The week continued with officers in the Staffordshire Moorlands carrying out similar checks in potential poaching hotspot areas. They also visited several farms, speaking to landowners to offer reassurance and encourage reporting of suspicious activity. Together with colleagues from the local authority, officers also visited meat retailers in the East Staffordshire area to ensure meat was legitimately sourced and again, to encourage them to report suspicious behaviour ...

Tiverton Foxhounds on Boxing Day 2009
PLEASE register for www.tivertonpeople.co.uk to read the full story online, and to view a range of photographs from the day itself or upload your own, and write about whatever is happening in the area. HUNDREDS continued to gather and show their support for the Tiverton Foxhounds when they galloped through the town centre on Boxing Day.Cold conditions meant that no hunting could take place, and the ice had kept some horses in their stables, but it didn't stop the annual meet outside the market and trailing through the cheering people on Fore Street. Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Tiverton & Honiton Neil Parish was there to support the hunt, and vowed that a Tory government would ask for a repeal of the Fox Hunting Act of 2004. The final passing of the legislation which came into force in February 2005 was considered very controversial with many newspapers and broadcasters condemning Tony Blair's Labour administration for giving in to what they perceived as the prejudicial views of anti-hunting Labour backbenchers.

Fox on the Run
WARNING: This video (which as you'll notice was rated 18 by the BBFC) contains some pretty horrible images that are too disturbing to upload. I only do so now with that proviso. This is probably the hardest, most graphic thing I've ever uploaded: a 1997 ad for IFAW and the League Against Cruel Sports, shot from the perspective of a doomed fox. The ending is as brutal as you'd expect. I live in the country. I point that out because I feel terribly alone down here in apparently not hating animals. Oh, I eat 'em, because that's how it works, but I don't want them to suffer unduly. And I certainly don't want them to be chased around and around the countryside until their muscles pop out and they get torn apart by a pack of dogs, all for no reason at all. It's banned now, of course, but not for long; this time next year David Cameron will be Prime Minister - unless God Himself intervenes - and he's already said one of the first things he'll do is re-legalise this shit. And since we had to use parliamentary privilege to get it through the first time, I can't see it being banned again any time soon. Sorry, foxes. Oh, also banned under the Hunting Act 2004 is Hare-Coursing, which is even worse and will also be making a comeback in 2011 or so. That's the one where some dogs are thrown in the ring with a hare and proceed to tear it in half FOR NO REASON AT ALL. Look at the "related videos" section after watching this for some much needed light relief. After watching an advert ...

Tiverton Foxhounds on Boxing Day 2010
WHILE turnout may have been less than in previous years due to the wintry conditions, the spirit of the Boxing Day Meet was still in abundance. Horses were kept in their stables and for the first time only the foxhounds made it to the Pannier Market for the annual meet on Monday 27 December. Tiverton Foxhounds hunt master Kelvin Thomas said: "It's a disappointment that we've had to keep the horses away but this is exceptional weather and everybody is struggling. "It wasn't safe to bring the horses that haven't been out hunting for around three weeks, but we wanted to come out as Boxing Day is very important to us." John Dawes, assistant hunt master added: "The support here is fantastic. Tiverton has always supported us for many years, and they've shown their strength again today." Neil Parish MP for Tiverton & Honiton also made a speech where he said the hunting ban under the Labour government was a 'travesty of justice'. He added: "It's lovely to see everybody out enjoying themselves this morning, and it just shows how strong support for hunting is still. "In the House of Commons we (the Conservatives) are waiting to repeal the Hunting Act when we are ready to do so." Neil added that he hoped the ban would be lifted within the next two years: "We are doing our arithmetic in the House of Commons to make sure that we actually win the vote, and David Cameron has said quite clearly we can bring it onto the floor of the house whenever we like." For photographs of the event ...

Lew's News Extra - Tiverton Foxhounds on Boxing Day 2012
HUNDREDS of people gathered in Fore Street yesterday to see the hounds and horses trot through the town centre. The Boxing Day meet on Wednesday 26 December gathered outside the Half Moon Pub and Tiverton Pannier Market before heading through the town and out into the countryside. Tiverton Foxhound's Hunt-master Kelvin Thomas said: "It's lovely to see so many people here this morning; the crowd gets bigger and bigger each year. "We are hunting legally and I'd like to thank to everybody for their generosity with donations to the hunt staff that have to work through Christmas and throughout the year." The Tory Party chairman yesterday said that the Conservatives do not have the parliamentary majority to overturn a ban on hunting with dogs in England and Wales. It has been illegal to use dogs to hunt animals in England and Wales since 2005 and in Scotland since 2002. Mr Paterson said that a vote may not happen in 2013. Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton & Honiton added: "I want to echo the fact that it's great to see everyone here this morning. "We will support the repeal of the hunting act, but we will only do it when we have enough votes in the House of Commons, otherwise we will have to find a very smart way to ensure they can all hunt legally. "All the support here in Tiverton this morning shows how much life there is in the countryside and in hunting."

Founded in 1999. The Wolf Conservation Center (WCC) www.nywolf.org PO Box 421 South Salem, NY 10590-1123 Phone : (914) 763-2373 WCC is a 501c3 organization that promotes wolf conservation by teaching about wolves, their relationship to the environment, and the human role in protecting their future. We accomplish this mission by: ° Promoting wolf conservation through education ° Supporting wolf reintroduction in federally designated areas that can sustain viable wolf populations ° Being the preeminent facility in the eastern United States for the captive breeding and pre-release of endangered wolf species Providing the natural habitat for a few captive wolves where observation of natural behavior is possible Through our education programs we work to convey the following messages: Wolves in the wild are not dangerous to people Wolves perform a vital role in the environment Wolves are not pets It is everyone's responsibility to do something each day to make the world a better place The WCC is working to build support for the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, a bill that would close the deadly loophole that allows Alaska to continue its brutal state-sponsored aerial hunting program. Wolves need broad bi-partisan support to make the promise of the PAW Act a reality. The PAW Act would: Clarify the conditions under which states can use airplanes and helicopters to aid in the management of wildlife Bar states from using aerial hunting to artificially boost game species ...

PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION! I have nothing in common with this video. I am not the maker of this video! Only thing I know is: The video is shot in 2004 with cell phone Sony Ericsson K500i (model 2004). Do NOT say that the quality is bad, I know that! These are professional hunters! A boar caught during hunting. The dog meets boar for a first time and it has to learn how to act. Dog wants piece of it! IMPORTANT: It may look cruel or animal abuse, but remember, this is hunting and the boar has been in this situation ONLY FOR SECONDS!

A Gusanitos De Risi commercial: Red Beard The Terrible is shipwrecked on Treasure Island but survives starvation by eating his precious cheesy maggots he hid there in a mysterious chest.
Blog
Pre-Production
This probably has to be the most retarded film I ever made. Mainly because of the labor I forced upon my family and friends. But more because of how retarded it is.
Back in 2004, during a break between semesters I visited friends studying abroad in Madrid. Hungry, poor, and packed like sardines on a sticky bus ride to the port that leads us to Morocco. A bus stop vending machine led me to the discovery of "De Risi Los Gusanitos." Cheesy snack puffs that weren't as good as the retarded artwork on the bag, and it also had a lame pirate shanty on the back in Spanish which helped us endure the remaining bus ride as I sung it out loud in a pirate voice.
A year later Cavanaugh, funny red haired dude, and I had a film special effects class together. I still had the plastic wrapper which I wanted to do a Japander style commercial. Basically, super colorful sparkly shit that makes no sense. Convinced this was a good idea for a final project Cavanaugh used rolls of film meant for his final film from another class (I think he might of failed because of this). And we shot six rolls of this blue screen madness. There was never a script, I just wanted to do the song and have it be like a like a Captain Crunch commerical. So we made some story boards where Red Beard wakes up starving and then hunts down and eats all the Gusanitos. After me and Cavanaugh got kicked off the beach when we shot some video story boards. We knew there was no way we could film at the beach. So my dad and brothers hauled two tons of sand ($60.00) and piled it ontop of our old garage which we dismantled and made into a hollow island in our backyard that we could shoot from all sides. The blue screen was four 4x8 sheets of insulation (from the garbage) painted blue. The rest of the budget was spent on fabric for the pirate's costume, makeup, gold tooth, and paper and plaster of Paris for the palm tree trunk. I made the worms out of 'borrowed' foam water noodles and plastic buttons for eyes, and the treasure chest was made out of scrap wood.
Production
We shot in January of 2005, below zero weather. We shot this in four days. Each day was a direction: North, West, East, South, and it all depended on which direction the sunlight hits the character and the island. Cavanaugh would take the camera inside to keep it from fogging up. And Dylan had to act the whole thing without breathing otherwisew we would see his breath. And we all had to go inside every hour to keep our limbs from going numb. We spent about four days shooting using the indirect sunlight to light our blue screen (we didn't have enough lights). The abuse to my older brother continued: to make it look like he had one leg I attached a plunger to an old wet suit and had dylan put his leg in knee first. This looked great but he would lose all circulation in about 20 min. So that one wide shot where he's running after the worms. He wasn't meant to fall. The plunger couldn't hold his weight. But the reults are much funnier.
All the background elements: the water, the sky, the clouds, the sinking ship, etc. were shot separately using black back drops or blue screens. If we had more time it would have been smart and more stylish to have shot the island and the character in front of set with cut-out waves, painted sky, and polyester clouds.
Post-Production
The big mistake I made was not making the music first, and this film is basically a musical. Editing it was a bitch. The music wasn't even made until two years later. I had to first teach myself how to use Logic Pro and write some pirate shanties, Stan Hugil's Shanties From the Seven Seas was extremely helpful. It also helped to have a musically talented family to lay down some vocals and a sweet mandolin track. For the death march song, I had friends sing "What will we do with a drunken sailor," then reversed it.
The background elements were luma or chrome keyed out, and then digitally stitched and animated together. My Computer almost died from the rendering, and 16 mm is too grainy making it near impossible to get clean separation between foreground and blue - so most everything was masked out. Months maybe even a year later Cavanaugh recorded sound effects, and re shot more translucent looking water (cellophane on top of painted waves), and I shot some condensed milk in water (for the moving storm clouds) as well as re shot the sinking ship (got a larger model to pick up more detail). Four years later I finished the titles and the mix. I sent a copy to De Risi in Madrid just for kicks. Never heard back from them...

“Notes on the Emptying of a City” : Ashley Hunt
Co-Lab, July 2010
Fluent~Collaborative and Co-Lab Present
A performance work by Ashley Hunt
About the Performance:
“Notes on the Emptying of a City” is a performance that acts as a dismantled film, in which a single narrator pieces together the sounds, images and voiceover of a documentary before a live audience. Based upon material generated in the city of New Orleans in the months following Hurricane Katrina, it opens a unique space of reflection at a time when the urgency of Katrina seems to have receded into a comfortable past as new economies of disaster and risk form around states of emergency around the world. In the performance, a figure sits alone at a desk with a printed text and a laptop computer. What looks at first like a traditional slide lecture quickly turns into storytelling — a narrator recounting his experiences as an artist working with a group of social justice activists in the storm’s aftermath. Spoken over slides of ruined and emptied architecture, he reflects upon being a witness, an observer, a listener and a speaker among other speakers; upon the cataloguing marks left by soldiers and police; and upon the prison that the city had refused to evacuate before the storm. Between each account, the narrator cues a video, replaying the testimony of citizens — a neighbor, an organizer, a group of protesters — each speaking to their experience and making a claim to their place in the city. Together, the testimonies, the narration and slides weave into a live form of journalism, one left open for inspection and discussion by an audience.
About the Creation Process and Theme:
In the months following Hurricane Katrina, Ashley Hunt joined a number of organizations in New Orleans — Critical Resistance, Families and Friends of Louisiana’s Incarcerated Children, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the ACLU and Human Rights Watch, in order to help document what had happened at the Orleans Parish Prison during and after the flood. Following this trip, the artist produced a short documentary entitled, “I Won’t Drown on that Levee and You Ain’t Gonna’ Break My Back,” that soon became the centerpiece of a campaign seeking amnesty for people arrested during the storm. As this short film took on a life of its own, Hunt continued to work from this material, thinking and writing his way through a number of thoughts that had been triggered by this experience. One of the resulting essays was published in the Journal of Aesthetics and Protest #5, 2007, and was intended to become a script for a film or video installation, but through a series of experiments with performing the materials of that film live, it wound up as the script for “Notes on the Emptying of a City,” which acts very much like an essay film that has been taken apart. With its different pieces held together by the thread of their performance and the active viewership of an audi-
ence, its form is compelling yet uncomfortable, supporting an important yet uncomfortable subject matter. As performance, it activates the relations of the room like only performance can do, and the presentation typically leads to lively discussion and debate.
About the Artist:
Ashley Hunt is an artist, activist and writer who engages the ideas of social movements, modes of learning and public discourse. Among his works are the ongoing “Corrections Documentary Project” (1999–present), “On Movement Thought and Politics” (2004–present), a collaboration with Taisha Paggett, “A World Map: In Which We See…,” (2004–2010) and “9 Scripts From a Nation at War” (2007), a collaboration with Andrea Geyer, Sharon Hayes, Katya Sander and David Thorne, commissioned originally for Documenta 12. Recent exhibitions include the Tate Modern, the Nottingham Contemporary, the 18th Street Center for Art in Los Angeles, the Gallery at REDCAT, the 3rd Bucharest Biennial, and various community-based venues throughout the United States.

Arkeon - La via del Padre
Video promozionale di Arkeon.
Arkeon is a controversial Italian personal growth movement founded by Vito Carlo Moccia. Arkeon gained some international popularity for alleged links with the Preacher to the Papal Household, Franciscan Capuchin Raniero Cantalamessa.
In this interview, Vito Carlo Moccia described the method as a path to "individual development and self-knowledge". Some of Arkeon's key values are the "feeling of belonging", the spirit of fatherhood, the rites of passage, the devotion to ancestors, the strength which comes from courage and from being authentic. According to Moccia, these values are those of the civilization of farmers, which, he believes, are being lost in modern society.
Arkeon is not a cult or a new religious movement. Most of its members are Roman Catholic. Informal membership is estimated at a few hundreds, mostly Italian.
Arkeon was founded in 2000 by Vito Carlo Moccia and others, based on their experience in teaching reiki. Moccia, described as the first Italian Reiki Master, initiated by Phyllis Furumoto, seems to have expanded the original teaching in different directions. Apparently, his method had become too different from Furumoto's and a different designation was needed.
In 2004, after the appearance of an article on a Roman Catholic catechism magazine, Rev. Father Raniero Cantalamessa interviewed Vito Carlo Moccia for the TV show run by the Capuchin friar on the national Italian television (RAI). The topic was the father-son relationship.
In October 2007, after a series of extremely critical TV shows, with accounts of purported victims, and calls for police action by an Italian anti-cult movement organization, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Bari, Italy, started an investigation on Moccia and five other members of the movement. Arkeon seminars were suspended. At the beginning of April 2008, the investigation was still pending. Several forms of abuse are being alleged. Arkeon members deny any criminal wrongdoing.
After his contacts with Arkeon were exposed, Rev. Father Raniero Cantalamessa, in an interview, said that "he had not participated to any meeting", but also called the media campaign on Arkeon a "witch-hunt".
In 2008, the Italian psychologist and theologian Raffaella Di Marzio, a leading Italian cult expert, began a research study on the movement. After collecting some interviews and participating in a meeting with members, she was accused by Italian police of joining a criminal conspiracy and attempting to continue Moccia's abuses as the new leader of Arkeon. Colleagues and observers reacted with disbelief. Her website on cults and psychology of religion Sette, religioni e spiritualità was also shut down by the Prosecutor's office, for undisclosed reasons.

OPEN SEASON documentary trailer
A Hmong immigrant is convicted of killing six white hunters in a violent confrontation during the 2004 deer hunting season in northwestern Wisconsin. Was it a racial incident? Was it the random act of a madman? Did it happen because urban development has diminished the woods, leaving hunters to battle over limited territory? Chai Soua Vang, the perpetrator, is now in prison, his victims buried. But there's a much bigger story here: a story about race, ethnicity, immigration and the changing face of our nation. Part courtroom drama, part intimate portrait, this feature-length documentary looks at the root causes and the reverberating impacts of this tragedy, bringing into high relief the simmering tensions -- racial, cultural, economic -- that lurk in America's heartland. Award for Achievement in Citizen Journalism - 2011 San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. Audience Award - 2011 Sound Unseen International Duluth. Coming to a local PBS station near you beginning October, 2011. NEW!!! OPEN SEASON is now available for purchase on DVD from the Center for Asian American Media caamedia.org

Bill Kristol is Against 2nd Amendment
Joe Klein, writing for Time Magazine, is surprised that the neocon Bill Kristol would come out against the Second Amendment. "People have a right to handguns and hunting rifles," Kristol told Fox News. "I don't think they have a right to semiautomatic, quasi--machine guns that can shoot hundred of bullets at a time. And I actually think the Democrats are being foolish as they are being cowardly. I think there is more support for some moderate forms of gun control." Klein and other apologists for the coercive power of the state over the individual often feign misunderstanding of their supposed political opponents on the other side of the false left-right paradigm. Kristol and the neocon faction supported by the ruling elite, of course, are on the same page as Klein and supposed "moderate" or liberal Democrats, although they usually pretend to be ideologically opposed. Democrat senator Chuck Schumer and the gun-grabbers in Congress say the Second Amendment protects hunters and people who buy handguns and rifles for self-defense. This is, however, nothing more than a cynical effort to placate and distract millions of Americans who believe they have a right to own guns, for whatever reason (many Americans are ignorant of the reason the Second Amendment was included in the Bill of Rights). Schumer and Kristol and the gun-grabber crowd in Washington are moving to reinstall Clinton's assault weapons ban that expired in 2004. The Second Amendment, of course, has nothing to do ...

The Countryside Alliance cares for liberty but not livelihoods Peter Hetherington
The Countryside Alliance cares for liberty but not livelihoods Peter Hetherington Story from: www.guardian.co.uk Image Attribution: Alamy Ten years after the creation of the Countryside Alliance it seems the hunting lobby care little for those suffering a real rural crisisTen years ago the hills of Britain glowed with 500 beacons to signal a campaign for "liberty and livelihood" in the countryside. About 400000 descended on London in chartered trains and buses hunting horns blaring and whistles shrieking in the biggest demonstration since the poll tax disturbances of 1990: the aristos from their country estates; the poorer workers at their gates; and the nouveau hunting and shooting set."Listen to us" they screamed outside Westminster. Parliament didn't. The Hunting Act ostensibly banning hunting with dogs received royal assent in 2004 with a majority of MPs ignoring claims 16000 jobs would go as a direct result and hundreds of hounds destroyed. As I reported for the Guardian at the time quoting respected rural academics ruthlessly criticised by a newly formed Countryside Alliance the claims were alarmist in the extreme.Few if any jobs have been lost. The hunters keep hunting albeit their hounds sometimes following trails of either aniseed or a concoction replicating fox scent. Foxes are still destroyed legally by shooting and illegally or otherwise by hounds that can't be diverted from following their traditional quarry. What is this? This is an experiment in virtual ...
