Pink Floyd Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts II IX Bass Cover
℗ Digital Remaster 2011 The copyright in this sound recording is owned by Pink Floyd Music Ltd/Pink Floyd (1987) Ltd under exclusive licence to EMI Records Ltd. Thanks goes to Miles Clark for the mix Song: Shine On You Crazy Diamond Artist: Pink Floyd Album: Wish You Were Here (1975) Original Bass Player: Roger Waters Bass: Steinberger XP-2 Strings: D'Addario ESXL170 Nickel Wound Double Ball-End .45 .65 .80 .100 Sound: Digitech BP-8 Valve Preamp/Processer (Compressor, Preamp, Equalizer) Mixer: Phonic AM240 Camera: Canon FS200 Standard Tuning "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a nine-part Pink Floyd composition written by Roger Waters, Richard Wright and David Gilmour. It is a tribute to former band member Syd Barrett. The song was first performed on their 1974 French tour, and recorded for their 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here. The song was intended to be a side-long composition (like "Atom Heart Mother" and "Echoes"), but was ultimately split into two parts and used to bookend the album, with new material composed that was more relevant to this song, and to the situation in which the band found themselves "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", along with the rest of the album, was written about the band's former leader, Syd Barrett. The song is a suite of nine parts, that was originally planned to take up the first side of the LP. "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was written at the same time as "You've Got to Be Crazy" ("Dogs") and "Raving and Drooling" ("Sheep"). The lyrics, apart from referring to Barrett, are also about music fame. The first verse speaks specifically about Barrett: Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun Shine on you crazy diamond Now there's that look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky Shine on you crazy diamond. • Roger Waters -- bass guitar, lead vocals, additional electric guitar on Part VIII • David Gilmour -- guitar, backing vocals, lap steel guitar, additional bass guitar on Part VI, EMS Synthi AKS • Richard Wright -- Hammond organ, ARP String Ensemble, Minimoog, clavinet and Fender Rhodes on Part VIII, Steinway piano on Parts III and IX, backing vocals, Bösendorfer piano on the multi-channel re-release.[7] • Nick Mason -- drums, percussion with: • Dick Parry -- baritone and tenor saxophones • Carlena Williams -- backing vocals • Venetta Fields -- backing vocals All audio and video segments remain the property of the original artists and publishing companies. 2112 - Rush (1976) (HQ Remastered Audio & 1080p HD Video)
"2112" was the epic title track on Rush's fourth album which was released in the spring of 1976. I came to Rush through this album and besides turning me on to a band that would remain one of my favorites for almost 4 decades, this record pushed me deeper into hard rock and progressive rock. I have played it, as I guess all serious Rush fans have, literally hundreds of times since I first heard it. There were some massively popular records back then, but the only other record I can think of where it seems everyone was playing for years in my hometown when I was in high school was maybe Boston's debut. Rush would release many more fine rock albums, but they would all always seem to point somehow back to 2112. In a career filled with fantastic albums, this remains their greatest achievement. It was almost surreal to hear it back in '76 (it was like music from another world (Megadon, maybe!?), listening to it now after decades of heavy rotation...it's still got the power to produce a few goosebumps! :-) Thank you RUSH for all those nights of carefree youth spent with the power and beauty of 2112 washing over us in waves. The video? Wow. After "Shine On You Crazy Diamond 1-9" and "Atom Heart Mother", I knew the epics were work. This one ended up much more difficult than I anticipated, much worse than those earlier ones, mainly because it is such an extremely dynamic track. I mean, it is riddled with so many unusual passages, it's fast, then slow, then faster, then extremely slow, then extremely fast and there are mini movements within the movements...the tempo changes and structure made for an extremely challenging effort. The track demands massive editing to work. I promise you this track will make you work to video it! As with the other epic videos, it was a nightmare to work with a video of such length; the timings are brutal to keep correct throughout, it's difficult to get everything right since it takes so long to render (and each render is always a bit different!), and of course, the video is so long it's a challenge to make it varied enough. It took me forever to get the thing to the point where the sequences were structured and the timings were close (each time I rendered this full video for timings, some sections would be perfect and others off..and I could never get each section correct at once!)...long enough that by then I was too burned out to create some different footage, and it would really be so easy at this point....just work some different things and plug them in where things are a bit repetitive (and I wanted to try some cool variations on the stuff already in)....but damn, I'm tired.....and as per normal, I ain't gettin' paid.....so, this is my "2112". I hope you enjoy it. Video snippets of the band are from the Blu-ray Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland.....if you are a RUSH fan and haven't picked up this DVD or Blu-ray....do.it.now! It's absolutely packed with great RUSH songs and incredible performances....and amazing video and sound! The best $20 Blu-ray you'll ever buy! Special thanks to Grimdrifter for the priests: http://grimdrifter.deviantart.com/ ....and as always HUGE THANKS to everyone else who's art made this new art possible....THANK YOU! And of course THANK YOU FOR WATCHING! Lyrics: are you kidding?....the don't come close to fitting, even without my personal ramblings! ;-(- published: 13 Oct 2013
