Room 3 - Tablinum - Octavia & Agrippina the Younger
Tablinum The Tablinum, traditionally a reception and storage area within the Roman house, would have been the perfect setting for our Political & Imperial Housewives to promote their agendas to their guests. Octavia's subdivision features her most famous portrait, the Porticus d'Octavia, the Temple of Octavia, and her image on the Ara Pacis. Most famous for being the cuckolded wife of Mark Antony, this exhibit offers some of her more honorable achievements. Though Antony divorced her in 32, she raised all of his surviving children by both Fulvia and Cleopatra along with their two daughters and her three children by Marcellus. This act of humanity warranted the commissioning of the Porticus Octaviae (Porticus d'Octavia) after her death in 11 BC. Meanwhile Iulia Agrippina's exhibit is dedicated to portraying her complicated relationship with her son, Nero and her manipulation of the men in her life. She is allegedly responsible for poisoning her uncle and husband, Claudius, so that her son Nero could assume power. This followed her crafty persuasion of Claudius to adopt Nero as guardian of his son. Agrippina was eventually punished for ways when she was murdered by a freedman acting on Nero's instructions.

Pope salutes fellow Germans from Cologne Carnival
February 3, 2011. Pope salutes fellow Germans from Cologne Carnival. The Cologne Carnival is a carnival that takes place every year in Cologne, Germany. Traditionally, the "fifth season" (carnival season) is declared open at 11 minutes past 11 on the 11th of November. The Carnival spirit is then temporarily suspended during the Advent and Christmas period, and picks up again in earnest in the New Year. The time of merrymaking in the streets is officially declared open at downtown square Alter Markt on the Thursday before the beginning of Lent. Street carnival, a week-long street festival, also called "the crazy days", takes place between the Fat Thursday (Weiberfastnacht) and ends on Ash Wednesday (Aschermittwoch). The highlight of the carnival is Rose Monday (Rosenmontag), two days before Ash Wednesday. All through these days, Cologne folks go out masqueraded. The typical greeting during the festival is Kölle Alaaf!, a Kölsch phrase which can be translated as "Cologne alive!" Dreigestirn Every year there are 3 people (the Dreigestirn) who are granted the titles of Jungfrau, Prinz, and Bauer (virgin, prince and farmer), who pay a large sum of money for their privileges. The carnival prince is deemed to be the highest representative of the festivities, leading the main parades throughout the week. Traditionally, the Jungfrau ("Virgin") is always portrayed by a man dressed as a female. As a entity, the trio is existing since 1883. In earlier times these were individual ...

The Most Evil Men In History Caligula PART 1
Surviving sources present a number of stories about Caligula that illustrate cruelty and insanity. The contemporaneous sources, Philo of Alexandria and Seneca the Younger, describe an insane emperor who was self-absorbed, angry, killed on a whim, and who indulged in too much spending and sex.He is accused of sleeping with other men's wives and bragging about it, killing for mere amusement, purposely wasting money on his bridge, causing starvation, and wanting a statue of himself erected in the Temple of Jerusalem for his worship. While repeating the earlier stories, the later sources of Suetonius and Cassius Dio add additional tales of insanity. They accuse Caligula of incest with his sisters, Agrippina, Drusilla and Julia Livilla, and say he prostituted them to other men. They state he sent troops on illogical military exercises. They also allege he turned the palace into a brothel.Perhaps most famously, they say that Caligula tried to make his horse, Incitatus, a consul and a priest.
