Introduction to Political Philosophy (PLSC 114) Hobbes' most famous metaphor, that of "the state of nature," is explained. It can be understood as the condition of human life in the absence of authority or anyone to impose rules, laws, and order. The concept of the individual is also discussed on Hobbesian terms, according to which the fundamental characteristics of the human beings are the capacity to exercise will and the ability to choose. Okay, so it's sovereign states. Close enough. This video also helpfully shows the capital cities and flags for each sovereign stae, and a little explanation at the end. Here's every sovereign state in Europe; including the likes of Greenland, Liechenstein and Kosovo. I uploaded this because no other videos showed ALL the 'countries'... The boundary I have used is: "...under the commonly used definition, the border stretches along the Ural Mountains, Ural River, and Caspian Sea in the east, the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea with its outlets, Bosporus and Dardanelles in the south.Based on that division, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkey have territory both in Europe and Asia." This video is all about the richest countries in Europe by GDP Nominal, which means a gross domestic product (GDP) figure that has not been adjusted for inflation.Nominal GDP is GDP evaluated at current market prices. Therefore, nominal GDP will include all of the changes in market prices that have occurred during the current year due to inflation or deflation. Inflation is defined as a rise in the overall price level, and deflation is defined as a fall in the overall price level. How long have people been living on Earth? The evolutionist says millions of years. Bible believing Christians generally say only about 6000 years. But the answer to this question is amazingly simple. If we start with only two people, and they have four children who live to have their own children, the second generation now has twice as many people -- four. Now, allowing for infant mortality and other human problems that keep population down, we still find that on the average it only takes about 130 years to double the Earth's population. This figure fits into known historical records. And if anything, it's a conservative number. If human history is 2 million years, as the evolutionists say, the Earth ought to have a lot more people than it does now. Alternatively, if we accept the 2 million years, then it must have taken 125000 years to double the population in order to finish with today's world population. But that doesn't make any sense at all, especially since human historical records show that the doubling time is about 1000 times less! The United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly voted recognize the sovereign state of Palestine, upgrading its observer status from "entity" to "non-member state." The move is viewed as a victory for Palestinians, but a diplomatic setback for the United States and Israel, who were joined by only a handful of countries in opposing the decision. With more than 190 members in the General Assembly, there were 138 votes in favor, nine against and 41 abstentions. Three countries did not take part. The vote came on the 65th anniversary of the adoption of UN Resolution 181 that partitioned Palestine into separate Jewish and Arab states. "This was a referendum on the United States' mediation of the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians," says Yousef Munayyer, executive director of The Jerusalem Fund and its educational program, The Palestine Center. "The vast majority of the world, I think said yesterday, that that has failed and it's time for different approach." It was proclaimed on November 15, 1988, in Algiers by the Palestine Liberation Organization's (PLO) Palestinian National Council (PNC) as an affirmation of the Palestinian people's right to self determination in form of an independent, sovereign state, at a time when the PLO did not exercise any control over the territory in question.The declaration designated Jerusalem the capital of Palestine,despite the Israeli control over the city and its designation as the Israeli capital in the Israeli law. The Palestinian Authority established as per the Oslo Accords in 1994 and assumed some government over the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, is not regarded as the State of Palestine, but sometime acts as representative of the 1988 proclaimed entity.The Palestinian Authority's President also assumed the title "President of the State of Palestine" and acts as the Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization. The Palestinian Authority's foreign minister Riad al-Malki said he could provide documents to show Palestine was recognized as a state by 67 countries.Some sources put the number around 100 countries. The reason for this discrepancy is not fully known. Grace and Mommy Mess-Ups
A mommy was out walking with her 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. The cautious Mom took the item away from her and asked her not to do that.
"Why?" her daughter asked.
"Because it's been on the ground, you don't know where it's been, it's dirty and probably has germs"
Her daughter looked up at her Mom with total admiration and asked, "Mommy, how do you know all this stuff? You are so smart."
The Mom quickly replied: "All moms know this stuff. It's on the Mommy Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mommy."
They walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, and the little girl seemed deep in thought.
"OH...I get it!" she beamed, "So if you don't pass the test you have to be the daddy."
"Exactly" the mommy replied back with a big smile on my face.
Actually, there is no test to become a Mom, but even brief rundown of some of the job descriptions of a Mom are overwhelming:
Dentist, Taxi driver, Doctor/Surgeon (stuffed animals), Lawyer, Policewoman, Coroner- (for pets), Coach, Teacher, Cook (apple jacks)/Chef (macaroni and cheese), Laundress, Dishwasher, Maid, Nurse - until we get our MD which happens after kid #2, Personal dresser, Personal shopper, Personal assistant, Secretary, Rocking chair, Singer, Artist, Diaper changer, Seamstress, Groomer, Cheerleader, Plumber, Counselor, Tissue (Mom's clothes work better) Food taster, Tickler and Pudding lid licker.
With all these responsibilities, is it any wonder that Mom's mess up from time to time? Sometimes Mom's flunk the Mommy Test!
Lydia and I were in Archie last year playing golf at Blackberry Trails. We were on the fourth hole when we get a frantic call from our fifth child, Lindsey. She was headed out to the garage to go shopping with our 8th grandchild, Laila. Laila was just seven months old. She had her in her seat that snaps into the pedestal in the car. She forgot to get something, so she sets the seat on the counter top, and goes up to her bedroom. She hears a horrid sounding "crash" and Laila lets out this blood-curdling scream. She runs downstairs to see Laila lying face down on their hard tile flor, with the baby-seat on top of her. She picks her up and sees a huge bruise and knot forming on her forehead.
When Lydia got the call, she was frantic as well. She immediately left and met Lindsey at the hospital.
Lindsey had one of those Mommy Mess-Up moments. She just didn't think that a seven month old could wiggle and kick that much. Lindsey had her first experience with "mommy guilt', but praise God, Laila was fine. It seems that God designed little babies with "mess-up's" in mind. Their little head bones are still forming and can take an accidental fall very well.
An important aspect of being a Mom is learning how to deal with "Mommy Mess-up's!

Kerry Barden
Can you imagine Monster's Ball starring Erykah Badu, or American Psycho starring Leonardo DiCaprio? Kerry Barden can, because he saw them read the parts. "There are so many great actors that sometimes it's a disappointment there's not more than one role in a film," he says.
The Atlanta native discovered his calling while producing plays, then formed a casting company with Billy Hopkins and Suzanne Smith. For 15 years, they handled such Miramax movies as Good Will Hunting and Shakespeare in Love and worked with directors from John Waters to Michael Bay. Last year, Barden started a partnership with Paul Schnee and cast The Visitor, which earned Richard Jenkins an Oscar nomination. Barden's current slate includes Sweet Flame, Everybody's Fine, and Betty Anne Waters.
Victoria Burrows and Scot Boland
"I'm Disney, he's Tarantino," is how Victoria Burrows describes her odd pairing with Scot Boland. That pairing has worked magic for such repeat customers as Robert Zemeckis, Peter Jackson, and Albert Brooks. A three-decade veteran of the casting business, Burrows first worked with Boland on Zemeckis' Contact in 1996 and took him on as a full partner in 2000. Lately, they've specialized in motion-capture films, from 2004's The Polar Express to Steven Spielberg's upcoming The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn. Burrows likes the visceral change of pace from live action. "A lot of film acting is internal; it's in the eyes, face, and subtleties," she says. "In motion capture, you're looking for a full-body performance."
Ellen Chenoweth
Ellen Chenoweth was first bitten by the casting bug in the mid-1970s when she took an office job at the Actors Studio. "I was a young girl exploring possibilities in New York," she says. "Lee Strasberg, Elia Kazan, and Arthur Penn were all there. I was putting together casts for Studio projects and people started calling me from outside for recommendations."
Having since served as casting consigliere to Clint Eastwood, Barry Levinson, and the Coen brothers, Chenoweth remarks that her New York residence keeps her in touch with many stage actors. For Changeling, she auditioned several on tape and sent the footage to Eastwood.
In addition to casting, Chenoweth occasionally has a hand in selecting music for movies. "I have done it a few times, such as on Wag the Dog, and I love it."
Sarah Finn
A Yale-trained actor, Sarah Finn was mentored by stage director–turned–casting heavyweight Risa Bramon Garcia, with whom she worked at New York's Ensemble Studio Theatre, where actors learn everything from producing to running the light board.
"She said, 'You should really try casting. It's a great combination of acting, producing and directing, all rolled into one.' "
After cutting her teeth with Garcia on films like 1997's The Peacemaker, Finn partnered with Randi Hiller in 2000. The duo went on to cast a string of films from 2004's Crash to Iron Man (2008), the former winning a SAG Award for ensemble cast. Last year, she struck out on her own with Oliver Stone's W. and is currently working on Disney's Tron 2.0.
Randi Hiller
When Randi Hiller was casting Iron Man with then-partner Sarah Finn, Robert Downey Jr. sang "I Hope I Get It" from A Chorus Line during his audition. "Even when you've done this a long time, you can never forget that somebody is always excited about certain roles," she says. Hiller shares the same enthusiasm about casting. She and Finn -- who recently ended their eight-year partnership to form separate companies -- have worked on Crash as well as several Marvel movies and will collaborate on the upcoming Thor and Iron Man 2. "Actors stop by sometimes to tell us they got a job which has nothing to do with us, " Hiller says. "I love when somebody calls, because they know I'll be excited."

For New York actors, no casting quartet is more sought after than Law & Order gatekeepers Kimberly Hope, Lynn Kressel, Suzanne Ryan, and Jonathan Strauss. Ryan, who works on the original L&O; series, says the show "strikes a balance between reality and entertainment," which is precisely the talent they have to mine from Gotham's gritty acting pool. Occasionally, that includes theatre notables like Christian Hoff, brought on board by Criminal Intent casting director Hope. But more often, as Strauss attests, it means having the gut instinct to cast young unknown actors in difficult roles. For SVU, Strauss has cast a transgender teenager, a genius 14-year-old accused of murder, and a child savant with a form of autism. "These aren't your ordinary, Hollywood, Shirley Temple -- style characters," he says.

Has your Christian life become bland? Do you need to realign your life to meet God’s standard? We all wrestle with questions of creation, culture and faith. It is often hard to distinguish between a genuine knowledge of God’s Word and the comforts that come from a familiar way of life. Recalibrate, 2011’s Give Me An Answer collegiate conference, will help you discover the truths of the Scriptures and share how to apply these truths to every element of your life.
Theology is the study of the nature of God - who he is and how he thinks and acts - but, honestly, theology isn’t often high on our daily lists of concerns. Most people today think mainly of themselves, but theology matters and what we know about God shapes the way we think and live. To be blunt, if we get theology wrong, then our whole life will be out of sync. Recalibrate, will host speakers from around the country that will challenge collegiate students to focus on true theology and strive to live a life of humble obedience.

Also called the West Indies, since Christopher Columbus landed here in 1492 believing he was in the Indies (in Asia), the region consists of the Antilles, divided into the larger Greater Antilles which bound the sea on the north and the Lesser Antilles on the south and east (including the Leeward Antilles), and the Bahamas. Geopolitically, the West Indies are usually reckoned as a sub region of North America and are organized into 27 territories including sovereign states, overseas departments, and dependencies. At one time, there was a short-lived country called the Federation of the West Indies composed of ten English-speaking Caribbean territories, all of which were then UK dependencies. The Caribbean islands are an island chain 4020 kilometres (2500 mi) long and no more than 257 kilometres (160 mi) wide at any given point. They enclose the Caribbean Sea. The region takes its name from that of the Carib, an ethnic group present in the Lesser Antilles and parts of adjacent South America at the time of European contact.
